Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Moonlight, a Girl in My Arms, and the System That Changed Everything

Sigh… Just a few more days until the Ninja Academy's graduation test, and I still barely have any chakra in me. Face it, I'm just not cut out to be a shinobi.

Am I really gonna have to go train with Guy-sensei and learn the Eight Gates just to burn out my life for a fighting chance? Seriously…?

Leaf Wudi lay sprawled out on a tree branch, a blade of grass dangling lazily from his lips, and let out a long sigh.

In his past life, when he was just a kid, a fortune-teller once told his parents that one day, he'd wear golden robes and be admired by thousands.

Turned out… the fortune-teller was right.

He did grow up wearing yellow.

Yellow delivery uniform, that is delivering takeout orders non-stop, chased by messages from impatient customers.

And then, on his birthday just as he hit adulthood he delivered one final order…

To another world.

The world of Naruto.

At first, he thought this was it. His life was finally about to take off. He'd get those golden mythic starter packs, be blessed by plot armor, and ride the heavens to the top like some overpowered protagonist.

But instead, here was his actual character sheet:

Name: Leaf Wudi.

Age: 13.

Orphan. Civilian. Village: Konohagakure, Land of Fire.

Chakra: Critically low. Probability of becoming a shinobi: Extremely low.

In short totally useless.

How the hell was he supposed to survive like this?

So, with no golden finger, no talking grandpa in his soul, and not even a cheat item to his name, Wudi did the only thing he could think of:

He trained to run.

If he couldn't fight, then he'd be the best damn runner the ninja world had ever seen.

Couldn't win a fight? Fine. But no one could catch him, either. First place in escaping danger.

And you know what? His plan worked.

In the world of Konoha kids, Leaf Wudi had earned himself a bit of a reputation:

No wins.

But no losses either.

Not a single person had ever laid a hand on him.

As Wudi dozed under the moonlight, tossing and turning over his own mediocrity, voices drifted over from a nearby alley.

"Well, well, if it isn't the white-eyed freak from the Hyūga clan. What are you doing all alone, huh?"

"Heh, yeah, don't hide. I thought your Byakugan was supposed to be all-powerful? Come on, use it! Hit me if you dare!"

"Our boss was right. You're just a scaredy-cat. White-eyed weirdo!"

"White-eyed weirdo! White-eyed weirdo…"

Peeking through the branches, Wudi saw a few snot-nosed brats surrounding a pale-eyed girl with lavender hair. They sneered, mocking her cruelly.

The girl trembled, clearly terrified, but even so, she didn't leave. Her eyes kept scanning the alley as if searching for someone.

That girl… was none other than the Hyūga clan's heiress.

Hyūga Hinata.

His future wife.

The moment he saw her, all his earlier despair vanished.

Wait a minute... I'm weak, sure, but that just means I should focus on winning over Hinata and living the good life as a spoiled househusband!

Ever since arriving in this world, Wudi had split his time between training his speed and… well, camping out just to catch Hinata's attention.

Affection points have to be built early, after all!

"What was I even worrying about just now? Bringing home a rich loli like Hinata is a far better long-term investment. Why break my back training when I could just flash a smile and melt her heart?"

Working hard? Couldn't be me. Not in this life. Flirting with Hinata, looking cool, and slowly building affection that's my only path to survival.

With that, Wudi leapt down from the tree.

Whoosh!

In an instant, the boys creeping toward Hinata saw their vision blur. A shadow streaked past them like lightning, stretching impossibly long.

W-what was that?! A monster?!

Before they could even react, Hinata had disappeared from their midst.

All that remained… were two loud slaps.

Smack! Smack!

"Did… something just pass by us? And… who slapped me?! Ouch!"

"Uh, boss… we've got no idea."

The lead kid rubbed his now-puffy cheek with a wince, sucking in a cold breath.

Whatever that black blur was, it moved like a ghost. By the time he'd realized it, he already looked like a pig's head.

"Who the hell was that?! Attacking us like a coward what a disgrace! No honor at all!"

While the bullies shouted in outrage, Leaf Wudi was already airborne cradling Hinata in a classic princess carry.

Their eyes met.

Boy and girl.

Under the pale glow of the full moon.

The starlight danced across Wudi's face, softening his grin as he looked down at her.

Hinata's heart nearly leapt out of her chest. Her face turned as red as a ripe peach, glistening with nervous warmth. Her knees gave out, and her head drooped as though she might faint.

"So… so cool…"

Wudi chuckled softly and leaned in closer, whispering into her ear.

"Hinata, why are you walking home alone again? It's dangerous. What if something happened to you? I'd be really worried, you know?"

"I… I just wanted… to see you, Wudi-nii… You were nearby, and I… I…"

"I… I can't… I'm gonna pass out…"

Seeing her about to collapse, Wudi held her tight and gently pressed his forehead to hers.

"Your face is so red, Hinata. Are you running a fever? Let me check."

"Mmnh!"

The moment their foreheads touched, Hinata's brain short-circuited. Steam practically puffed out of her head. She smiled like a girl in a dream and fainted on the spot.

Wudi grinned, hoisted her up again, and shot forward through the trees.

"Out cold again? That's okay. If we fly a little, you'll wake up in no time."

Sure enough, just a moment later, Hinata stirred.

"I… I'm flying! Wudi-nii, this is amazing… but it's so fast… slow down, just a little…"

Tap tap tap.

Not long after the pair vanished, a few hidden Hyūga branch family guards stepped out of the shadows, whispering amongst themselves.

"That Leaf Wudi kid has been fast since he was little. I bet a lot of genin can't even keep up with his speed."

"True, but he's still just a civilian. In a few years, once the real geniuses from the clans awaken their kekkei genkai and secret jutsu, he'll fall behind."

"Yeah, that's how it usually goes…"

As the guards gossiped quietly, Wudi now far from the alley, still holding Hinata suddenly heard a voice in his mind.

A voice he'd been waiting for his entire life.
