Chapter 9 - Chapter 9:

Elsa's eyes darted nervously through the hallway, her heart still racing.

Fear gripped her chest as she tried to figure out who had left the note. Around her, students laughed and chatted like it was just another normal day. But for Elsa, everything had changed.

Then she saw her—Seraphine Montclair.

Elsa's steps slowed. Seraphine turned just in time to meet her eyes. For a second, they stared at each other. Then Seraphine smirked and walked away without saying a word.

Seraphine Montclair.

A classmate.

Mathew's twin sister.

Mathew—the same boy who had sexually harassed Mira.

But Seraphine was even worse. Rude. Cold. Mean.

The only real difference between the twins was that Mathew was smarter in class. That's how he ended up working alongside Mira on class president duties. Seraphine didn't care about studying.

She was undeniably beautiful—average in height, but striking with long, flowing waves of rich brown hair that fell past her shoulders. Her appearance often made heads turn. And her reputation? , It was whispered that she had been with nearly every guy who approached her. Elsa always found it disgusting how easily that power was passed between the twins—how they used it, wore it like armor.

Some people even joked the twins were so close, it was creepy. Almost like they were dating.

But Seraphine loved her brother more than anything. She never let anyone talk badly about him.

Mira once went to Seraphine for help.

She told her everything—what Mathew was doing to her—hoping she'd understand as a girl.

Instead, Seraphine took private photos from her brother and used them to blackmail Mira too.

There was something Mathew found out about Mira. A secret. Something so deep she couldn't tell anyone—not even Elsa. And he used it to keep her quiet. What was that secret?

Mira was stuck. She had no choice but to stay silent and endure it all.

At least until Elsa found out.

Elsa exposed Mathew in front of everyone. She didn't care about the drama—it had to end.

Mathew was expelled.

From that day on, Elsa and Mira became Seraphine's enemies she declared war between them. She blamed them for everything.

A month later, Mathew was sent to juvenile detention. Not just because of Mira's —but because other girls came forward too. Girls from influential families. The evidence was too damning. Even the Montclairs' resources couldn't suppress the scandal.

He didn't stay in juvie long, but when he came out, he was angrier than ever.

One afternoon, he followed Elsa on her way home.

He cornered her, dragged her into a hidden spot, and beat her up.

Elsa couldn't fight back.

When people asked what happened, she lied. Said she got into a fight with thugs. She didn't want anyone—especially her parents—worrying.

But deep down, Elsa was scared.

If Mathew could do this to her… what would stop him from doing worse to Mira?

Then, not long after that, it happened—Mathew was found dead.

They said he took his own life.

But it didn't make sense to Elsa.

Why would he wait so long after everything?

If he wanted to die, why not when he was first exposed or locked up?

Nothing about it felt right.

And after his death, Seraphine's hatred festered into something truly venomous.

She blamed Elsa and Mira for everything.

There was even a day when she and Elsa got into a serious fight at school. Their parents were called in.

Author's note:

Everything you just read happened in the original timeline.

Since Elsa has traveled back to May 6, 2019, all of this has already happened. Don't get confused—just follow the story and enjoy!

Elsa had almost forgotten about Seraphine. She had been too focused on saving Mira.

But now that she saw her again, a question hit her hard:

Was Seraphine the one behind the letter?

If so…

Could she also be the one who tried to kill Mira—and made it look like suicide?

Why was she so close to the scene when Elsa found the letter?

Elsa sat in class, completely zoned out. Her mind was racing.

Everything felt wrong again.

"Elsa?"

A soft voice pulled her back. She looked up—and froze.

Adrian Vale.

Tall. Calm. Handsome. His sharp jawline and soft hair gave him that natural charm.

It had been so long since she'd seen him.

Adrian was her ex.

No one really knew why they broke up. It had happened quietly, almost mysteriously, just a month before they entered their final senior year. Even Mira had never gotten the full story.

Elsa blinked, surprised. "Adrian?"

He gave her a small smile and sat beside her. "Hey," he said gently.

It was strange… seeing him again after everything. And she hadn't seen him since she travelled back in time.

"H-hi… it's… it's been a while," Elsa said, trying to sound composed.

"Yeah, it really has. We haven't talked since… the break-up," he said, his tone dipped in something unreadable—regret, perhaps.

Elsa cleared her throat. "How've you been?"

"I've been okay. Just… going with the flow, I guess."

She gave a soft nod. "That's good."

Silence filled the space between them.

"I've seen you around a few times," Adrian said. "I just didn't know how to talk to you."

Elsa hesitated, then said softly, "You don't have to feel uncomfortable around me, Adrian. It's been months. We've both moved on… right?"

"Yeah," he said quickly. "Exactly. It's been months."

Elsa started packing her bag. The moment was starting to feel too heavy. "Well, it was nice seeing you again. I have somewhere to be."

She stood up to leave—but he gently reached out and held her hand.

Her eyes widened.

She looked at his hand, then up at him.

But she didn't pull away.

"What are you doing?" she whispered, confused.

Adrian let go quickly. "Sorry… I just… I was wondering if you'd maybe want to hang out sometime. Just a drink or something. This Saturday?"

Elsa was silent for a few seconds. Then slowly, she nodded. "Sure. Saturday works."

Adrian smiled.

She turned and walked out of class. But the moment she stepped outside, she stopped and leaned against the wall.

What am I doing?

Get a grip, Elsa.

You two broke up. It's over.

But her heart wasn't listening.

Adrian had been her first love—and no matter how much time passed, first love doesn't fade easily.

Maybe… just maybe…

Now that she was back in the past,

those old feelings were waking up again

************

Elsa arrived at the hospital and made her way quietly to Mira's ward. She opened the door gently and found Mira sitting on the bed, gazing out the window. Elsa smiled softly and set her bag down.

Mira turned and lit up with a wide smile, stretching her arms for a hug. Elsa laughed and embraced her tightly.

After a moment, she pulled back and sat beside her.

"How are you feeling now, Miss?" she asked with a teasing smile.

"I'm completely fine," Mira replied, rolling her eyes. "I don't know why everyone keeps insisting I stay. This place is boring."

Elsa chuckled. "We're just worried about you. Though, I don't see anyone else here—your mom didn't come this afternoon?"

"She did. She left a while ago. My dad just stepped out too. You'd have met him if you came earlier."

Elsa nodded, falling quiet for a moment.

Mira glanced at her, her expression growing serious. "Elsa… there's something I need to tell you."

Elsa sat upright, immediately attentive.

Mira exhaled deeply. "I didn't do this to myself. I didn't try to take my life. Things have been hard lately, yeah—but I've never once thought about suicide."

Elsa looked at her and nodded. "I know, Mira."

Mira blinked in surprise. "You're not shocked… did you already know?"

Elsa reached out and held her hand gently. "Yes, Mira. I know you better than anyone. You once told me the biggest mistake you could ever make would be dying before me. So when I heard what happened, I knew something wasn't right."

Mira swallowed hard. "Then... I'm scared, Elsa. Because I think someone's trying to kill me."

Elsa squeezed her hand. "Don't worry, Mira. As long as I'm here, I won't let that happen. We'll figure this out—together. You, Susan, and I. We'll find out who's behind this."

Mira hesitated, then spoke quietly. "I've had this thought on my mind, but I keep telling myself I'm probably just overthinking."

Elsa leaned in. "What is it?"

Mira looked at her, voice trembling. "I keep thinking… what if Seraphine is behind this?"

Elsa's hands dropped slightly, her face unreadable.

"What is it?" Mira asked. "Did something happen?"

Elsa debated for a moment, then decided to tell her the truth.

"This morning, I found a note in my locker."

"A note?" Mira's eyes widened.

Elsa nodded. "It said, 'It's Mira now. Who do you think is next?'"

Mira gasped. "What?! Who left it?"

"I don't know. But… I saw Seraphine near the hallway. I'm not saying she did it, but—she was there."

Mira's face went pale. "Sera… she won't stop until she gets what she wants."

"I know," Elsa said. "But let's not jump to conclusions. We'll keep watching her, gathering anything we can. Just… don't tell anyone yet—except Susan."

Mira nodded quickly. "Okay."

Elsa held her hand again. "You don't need to be afraid, Mimi. I promise—I won't let anything happen to you. Just stay behind me, alright?"

Mira gave a faint smile and nodded.

"And please… don't hide anything from me. I'm your best friend. You can talk to me."

Mira hesitated, then gave a small nod.

Elsa took a breath. "So… are you ready to tell me about the nightmares?"

Mira fidgeted, then finally spoke. "I didn't tell you because I didn't want to make you worry."

Elsa placed a hand on her shoulder. "Mimi, I worry more when you keep things from me. Just tell me."

Mira nodded slowly. "I keep having dreams of me… dying. The dreams feel so real, Elsa. Every time I wake up, it's like it actually happened. After the sucide incident, they only got worse."

Elsa's heart dropped. "What…?"

Mira nodded, her voice shaky. "I don't understand it. But it terrifies me."

Elsa trembled. Her palms turned cold, sweat beading on her forehead.

"Elsa, are you okay?" Mira asked, grabbing her arms.

"I… I'm fine," Elsa whispered, trying to steady herself.

Then, gently, Elsa cupped Mira's face with her trembling hands. "That's never going to happen. You're not going to die, Mira. Not while I'm here."

Mira didn't say anything. She simply nodded, holding Elsa's gaze.

Nightmares, in this new timeline, were echoes of a future that once existed. When time is reversed, fragments of what once was can linger in dreams—memories of a fate that had already happened, no matter how much the clock is rewound.

Elsa sat in front of her study table at home, her head bowed low, palms pressed to her forehead. Her mind was a storm of confusion and heavy emotion. A flood of thoughts overwhelmed her, each one fighting for attention. She felt lost. Torn between the mission to save Mira and a gnawing fear that maybe… there was more to this than she thought.

If Mira wasn't hurt at this time in the first timeline... then what went wrong?

Her eyes clenched tighter. One name rose clearly in her mind: Seraphine. She was the only person Elsa could even remotely suspect. The only one who had already proven she could hurt her.

"None of this makes sense," Elsa muttered to herself, voice trembling.

Just then, her door burst open.

Elsa flinched violently in fear.

"Geez! Mom, can't you knock?!" she blurted, her voice louder than she intended.

Her mother raised her brows and clutched her chest dramatically. "That hurt my feelings, young lady. I've been knocking for almost a minute. You didn't answer. I thought you fainted or something!"

Elsa sighed, her voice softening. "I'm sorry... I didn't mean to yell."

Her mom's face eased into a gentle smile. "It's okay, baby."

She walked in and sat on the bed, her eyes never leaving Elsa's face. Then came the silence — a thick one — the kind that demanded truth.

"Alright," her mom said finally, voice low. "Spill it. What's wrong, Elsa?"

Elsa hesitated. "It's nothing, Mom. I'm okay."

But her mom wasn't buying it. She scooted closer, took Elsa's hand into hers — warm and grounding — and said, "Did I ever tell you that I was pregnant with twins?"

Elsa blinked. "Wait… what?"

Her mom nodded, eyes growing distant. "When I was pregnant with you, there were two heartbeats. But during my third trimester… the other baby didn't make it."

Elsa's heart stopped for a second. "Mom…"

"The doctors said it was a miracle you survived," she said, voice breaking. "But I never stopped wondering what it would've been like. If your sister had made it. If both of you were running around the house. After you were born, your dad and I made a promise — that we would give you all the love we had. All of it. That we would never let you feel unloved. No matter what."

"Mom...I'm...sorry I didn't know" Elsa said in a soft tone

Her mom sniffled, then tried to force a smile. "Its okay sweetheart, It's a memory I try not to revisit.

Her voice broke slightly. "So Elsa… if you're ever struggling, ever drowning in something you can't carry… talk to Mama. I don't care how far away you are—I will run to you."

Tears welled up in Elsa's eyes.

Guilt sliced through her like a knife. She remembered the future she spent pushing them away after Mira's death. The silence. The coldness. She hadn't just shut them out—she broke their hearts while they tried to hold hers together.

She clenched her mom's hands. "Mama… if maybe, in the future… just maybe, I end up shutting you and dad out of my life… would you still forgive me?"

Her mother's eyes glistened, but she nodded gently. "Elsa… no matter what happens, no matter what you do on this earth… you are my baby. Nothing changes the love your father and I have for you. If you ever drift away, I'll find you. I'll bring you home. But please… don't shut us out."

Elsa wiped her tears and gave a teary smile. "Okay, Mama. I promise. If I'm ever struggling, and I can't take it anymore… I'll come to you."

They both chuckled through their tears.

"Mama?" Elsa asked softly. "Do… do you believe in time travel?"

Her mother raised an eyebrow, curious. "Time travel? What do you mean?"

"Like… in movies. Someone goes back in time with a machine. Or just wakes up in the past."

Her mom paused, thinking. "Hmm. I don't know if it's possible. But if someone did end up in the past, maybe it's fate. Or maybe…" she smiled gently, "maybe God is giving them a second chance."

Elsa nodded slowly.

"Why do you ask, by the way?"

"Huh? Oh—it's for a school assignment," Elsa said quickly. "We were supposed to ask someone for their opinion."

Her mom laughed. "Ahh, I see. Smart way to get me talking."

*********

Three days passed. Elsa hadn't spoken to Liam since their fight. He gave her space, not wanting to make things worse.

But guilt lingered. Maybe she had been too harsh. He didn't deserve that. Still, she told herself she couldn't afford distractions. Not now. Not when she was trying to untangle a mystery.

Mira had been discharged from the hospital, after much convincing. She insisted she felt fine and couldn't bear missing more classes. By morning, she was back in school.

In class, Elsa and Mira sat together when Susan appeared from the other block and joined them.

"You know you should've stayed longer in the hospital," Susan said with concern.

Elsa nodded. "She's right."

Mira smirked. "I'm fine. I don't see why I should be tied to a bed when I'm perfectly okay."

Elsa reached out and held Mira's hand softly. "I'm just glad you're here," she said sincerely.

Susan cleared her throat. "Soo… Mira. Are you ready to tell us why you tried to take your life?"

Mira and Elsa looked at themselves nervously

"Wait—what? What's going on? Is there something I don't know?" Susan asked curiously

Elsa sighed. "Apparently… Mira didn't do it."

Susan's eyes widened. "What?!"

Elsa continued, "We think someone else is trying to kill her."

Susan gasped. Her hands trembled. "Are you serious? Who… why? How are you so sure?"

Elsa pulled the note from her bag and handed it to Susan.

Susan read it. Her eyes shot wide open. "Oh my God."

"I saw Seraphine that day," Elsa added. "She was near the locker when I found the note. Maybe it's coincidence… but she smirked at me. This might sound crazy but, I have a gut feeling"

"You know how Seraphine is," Mira said, voice shaking. "She hasn't forgiven us. She still blames us for her brother's death."

Susan looked terrified. Her hands were trembling. "This isn't a small matter. If she's willing to go this far… to hurt Mira and make it look like suicide… we have to be careful."

Elsa nodded. "Yeah. But we can't be sure yet. For now, we need to watch her closely."

She turned to Mira. "You're her main target. Be careful."

Mira and Susan nodded. Tears welled in Susan's eyes. That always happened when she got scared.

Mira wiped her tears and gently held her hand. "I'll be fine, Susan. Just stay calm. But for now… please don't tell anyone. Not even our parents."

Susan nodded quickly. "Of course. It stays between us."

They all fell silent. The air between them grew heavy with tension.

During P.E., students from both blocks gathered in the field. After games, the teacher made them assemble.

"You have an assignment," the teacher said. "It'll be done in pairs. I've already picked your partners. You will be paired for 3 weeks, you will bring your ideas together and submit" he said after telling them the topic of the assignment

The class groaned.

He began calling names.

Elsa sighed under her breath. "Gosh. I hate P.E. I can't believe I'm doing this again."

When her name was called, her partner's name followed—and she gasped.

"Liam?"

Her eyes darted to where he was standing. He smiled at her, softly.

Elsa groaned. "Why him? Am I cursed or something?"

Then a thought hit her.

Wait… in the first timeline, I wasn't paired with him. I had someone else. So why is it different now?

She narrowed her eyes.

After a while she shock her head "it doesn't matter"

Susan was paired with Adrian, while Mira was paired with another girl.

As the students were dismissed, Liam walked toward her.

"Hey," he said softly.

Elsa laughed nervously. "Hii…"

"So… we're together for three weeks," he said.

Still avoiding his gaze, she replied flatly, "Unfortunately, yes."

He tried to say something else, but Elsa cut him off.

"Actually, I have to go. I have something to do in class," she said quickly.

Liam paused, a bit hurt. "Okay… cool."

Elsa forced a smile. "Yeah. If you need anything, just text me."

She turned and dashed off.

Liam watched her leave, sighing. She wasn't angry anymore—but now, she was avoiding him.

Elsa reached her seat in class and clutched her chest, breath shaky.

"Whoa… my heart was about to pop out," she muttered.

*******

Saturday came.

The day she was meant to hang out with Adrian.

Elsa arrived at the café first. He wasn't there yet. She sat down, ordered a light drink, and checked her watch.

A small smile tugged her lips. "Typical Adrian… always late."

Then her smile faded.

"Get a grip, Elsa! You don't like him anymore!" she scolded herself.

Soon Adrian arrived, waving and smiling. The moment she saw his face—his familiar smile—memories surged back. That smile. That face. The laughter. The warmth.

He sat down.

"Sorry I'm late," he said.

Elsa smiled softly. "It's okay. I just got here," she lied.

Adrian ordered a drink, then pulled something out of his pocket and handed it to her.

Elsa looked at it. "What's this?"

He smiled. "A movie ticket. Remember the one we planned to watch on our anniversary? I bought them anyway. Figured we could still see it."

Elsa went quiet. She remembered. She stared at the ticket, heart heavy.

She placed it on the table. "We don't need to watch it. It's not like we're back together. You can go with someone else."

Adrian's smile faded. "I can't. I only bought it to watch with you. But if you really don't want to… I'll just throw it away."

Elsa looked at him. "Why throw it away? You love movies."

He gave her a sad smile. "I only loved them because I watched them with you."

Silence.

Elsa's heart ached. After a pause, she finally said, "Okay. I'll watch it. Not because of anything… but so it doesn't go to waste."

Adrian's face lit up.

They headed to the cinema, grabbed popcorn, and sat together. The lights dimmed. As the movie played, Adrian kept stealing glances at her.

When the movie ended, they stepped out.

Elsa turned to him with a wide smile. "That was fun. Thanks for today. I had a great time."

Adrian smiled. "I'm honored."

They both laughed… then caught each other laughing. The moment froze.

Elsa quickly cleared her throat. "Anyway… I should go. It's getting late."

As she turned to leave, Adrian gently grabbed her hand.

"Els…" he said softly

She froze and turned back slowly.

Her heart pounded.

Why am I not pulling my hand away?

I thought my feelings aren't there anymore.

She stared into his eyes, confused and overwhelmed by a storm of emotions she thought she'd buried long ago.
