Chapter 12 - Chapter 12- Nothing but vague memories

The damned rabbit still wouldn't let go. Grey's hand was bloody by now but the rabbit was now beaten and its body bent like a broken doll.

Since it couldn't feel pain, it kept thrashing. Trying to lounge at Grey, but its broken bones and misshaped body could only make it shift and shake on the ground.

It's teeth finally let go of his hand after a long time. Blood cascading down his wounded arm and dying his coat a tinge of red. Now that the rabbit was immobile, he had no issues placing the blade of his knife on its neck and relieving the undead creature of its head.

Grey let out a small inhuman growl when he looked at his hand. The place where he had been bitten was mangled and the blood was turning black. But thankfully, the rabbit was a small creature and as such the damage was not extensive but it still hurt a lot.

Clutching his bleeding hand, he took a look at the captain. The fight had taken a little less than two minutes but that time must have felt a lot.

The captain had moved by quite some distance as he fought the undead creature. Probably to get some space and avoid deadly attacks.

His entire person was bloody and wounded all over. With most of the wounds shallow and non-life threatening. Except for a large gash on his shoulder.

Apparently, he had not managed to dodge the slash in time and had been severely wounded.

The wound, now prohibiting him from fighting at his best. Seeing the captain in such a state, Grey was almost ready to leave. After all, he never promised that he would help. And the captain seemed to have been able to last for this long.

He could surely last a little while longer while he made his way out of the corroded zone.

But just as he was about to leave, he suddenly heard the sound of something heavy being struck and saw the mutated beast corpse being flung away like it had been hit by some force of reckoning.

When he looked at him, he saw the captain's outstretched fist.

He had finally used his cultivation art.

The captain huffed and puffed for a few seconds that the short respite brought him. He looked at Grey and grinned, but with his figure bloody and covered i. multiple wounds, he looked like a corpse himself.

A smiling corpse...

"What are you waiting for?"

"Uh... I- i." For a few seconds he was stunned and didn't know what to do. But the corpse was already standing up.

Seeing his hesitant expression, the captain's voice turned cold and indifferent in a heartbeat. "If you don't help me and i get out of this, and trust me i will. I will make sure to hunt you down and..."

But he didn't get ti finish his sentence when the corpse rushed back into battle. The Captain had abandoned using his sword and was instead using his fists which proved to be very effective.

In fact, he could dodge almost all the corpse's attack with what seemed to be foresight. His movements were destructive and erractic, but that didn't make them terrifying in the least. Instead, it was now the corpse that seemed to be suffering and could hardly land a single blow on the human who was moving at a seemingly slower speed but always manged to dodge at the last moment.

Seeing what was happening in front of him, Grey's expression darkened and a frown appeared on his face.

He didn't join the fight as the captain had expected, but instead left. He would not waste the opportunity that was presented to him right now.

Even if the Captain would soon kill the corpse... scratch that, defeat the corpse. The fact that he could have used this power at the beginning and ended this fight a long time ago made him feel wary of the man.

Although he didn't give him that vibe of impending danger that he normally felt with other scavengers, the fact that this man could have avoided the injuries and jumped straight at beating the corpse as he was now was doubtful.

And since it would soon be defeated anywayd, there was no need for him to intervene.

He had already fought the rabbit and got injured in the process, what more could he possibly do for the man. He has done enough already.

Looking at the already deforming body of the undead creature, he could see signs that many bones were broken. Which would further degrade the fighting ability of the corpse, further leading a victory of the Captain. What would he need him for.

The captain seeing him running away with an indifferent expression. He called out loudly. "Where are you going to bastard. Come and help me fight. You shitty brat."

He cursed at the top of his lungs but Grey was too far away to hear. And even if he did, he couldn't care.

As for the threat of being hunted down. He didn't care about that either. If he used the Kai-kai kitan, his level would reach the eight level and he could fight with him.

Although he wouldn't be able to kill the captain, he could as well just escape his adversary. Plus he doubted the man would come to the corroded zones just to kill him.

"...bastard. I'll kill you, ya hear. I'll make sure you suffer." The captain cried out but Grey couldn't hear. He had already left the vicinity.

In a few minutes, the crystal shard kicked into action and his body was now repairing itself at an amazing speed.

He saw his flesh close and mend together right before his eyes. Although the healing part was painful, it was still bearable. He had been injured many times during these past two months after all. By now he had gotten used to it... but the crystal shard's regeneration speed was still absurd and shocking in the least.

In half an hour, his hand had completely healed and the scar was also in the process of healing. It was getting fainter and fainter by the minute.

Now he had to think about his next line of action. He had lost his lunch for today and with the sun high in the sky, the truly terrifying Mutated creatures would be out and hunting by now.

And with his pitiful strength, he would be killed rather easily. After all, most of the creatures in the corroded zones were in the foundation building realm.

He could obviously not compete with such creatures with his level and realm.

He concluded that if he kept up his current cultivation speed, in one year he should have broken through to the next realm.

And that was very fast. Most cultivators didn't even have the power to break through. And that was before the gods hand aura corroded the world and spirit energy. Now it was times three harder.

And with the existence of the corrosive substance which was hell-bent on corroding all of existence and turning everything into a corroded zone... yeah humanity was doomed.

With less powerful cultivators arising each year, and more humans dying each day. Sooner or later humanity would remain but only a handful.

Grey shivered with that thought. After all he hadn't found his siblings. Or what later happened to his mom.

He had been an orphan for so long that all he had now were vague memories of what used to be a happy family.
