Chapter 30 - Karma

Jin was also happy. See, system, how lucky I am. Whenever a problem comes, the solution arrives too. Now it's time to see what the method is.

The old man began to speak:

"This is no ordinary curse. This is a heavenly curse."

He pointed his finger toward the boy and said, "If this boy wishes to break this curse, he must reach the Immortal Realm within fifty years."

Hearing this, everyone was utterly shocked. Xing Tian exclaimed, "But that's impossible! Even a heavenly talent could only reach the Void Realm in fifty years. How could my grandson possibly reach that level at such a young age?" He panicked and asked in a trembling voice, "Elder, is there truly no other way to lift this curse?"

Everyone present nodded in agreement with the Elder's words.

But there was one person among them who did not understand what heavenly talent meant. He turned to the person beside him and asked, "Do you know what this heavenly talent is?"

Hearing this, the man beside him looked at him in surprise. "What? You don't even know that? Let me explain — listen carefully…"

Heavenly Talent: These are exceptionally gifted individuals who are blessed directly by the heavens. They are born with extraordinary abilities or possess rare special traits, such as a supreme bone, a heavenly pupil, or a heavenly-grade dantian.

They are extremely rare. In the entire Central World, only a handful of living people possess such talents.

(Note: In this story, we will refer to them as "protagonists.")

After listening to Xing Tian, a mysterious smile appeared on the Elder's face. He replied, "Tell me, has the Heavenly Dao ever placed a curse on a heavenly talent?"

Xing Tian paused to think, then answered calmly, "No, never."

Then the Elder said, "Look, the Heavenly Dao has never cursed a heavenly talent. But it has cursed your grandson. That means he is even more gifted than a normal heavenly talent. I believe this boy will reach the Immortal Realm within fifty years."

Hearing this, Xing Tian calmed down a bit. The Elder continued, "And if he wants to break free from this curse even sooner, then he must accumulate good karma."

"Good karma?" Xing Tian asked in surprise.

The Elder replied, "Yes, good karma."

Then Xing Tian asked, "But why?"

The Elder sighed and said, "Listen carefully. Heaven operates on the principle of karma. If someone does good deeds, Heaven grants them good karma. If someone does evil deeds, Heaven gives them bad karma."

Xing Tian nodded. "I know that much — but what does that have to do with breaking the curse?"

Hearing those words, Elder Nalan Nil abruptly took off his shoe and threw it at Xing Tian, shouting, "You still haven't lost that habit of asking endless questions, have you? Stay quiet until I finish speaking!"

Xing Tian could have easily blocked the shoe — but he didn't. It smacked him on the shoulder, and he covered his face with his hand, thinking, No, I won't ask any more questions now.

Seeing this, Elder Nalan Nil nodded and said, "Good, stay just like that."

Then he continued, "Listen — the Heavenly Dao only curses someone when their karma drops too far into the negative. But in your grandson's case, it's different. Your grandson has neither committed any great sin nor performed any significant good deeds, so his karma is currently at zero.

He needs to raise his karma, at least to one million. As his karma grows, his connection to Heaven will also strengthen. When his karma increases enough, the curse will no longer apply to him. In fact, he may even qualify to become the next Heavenly Dao itself."

Hearing this, everyone present was overjoyed. After all, becoming the Heavenly Dao was no small matter.

But then Xing Tian raised his hand.

Seeing this, Elder Nalan Nil looked slightly annoyed. "What is it now?"

Xing Tian gestured at his mouth. "Umm…"

The Elder glared and snapped, "Enough of those theatrics. Speak plainly!"

Xing Tian lowered his hand and said, "But Elder, earning one million karma isn't an easy thing."

He said, "If a person does many good deeds, their karma only increases by one or two at a time. Even if my grandson spent his entire life doing good, he could never gather a million karma."

Elder Nalan nodded. "What you said is correct — earning karma is extremely difficult. But who knows? Maybe in the future, your grandson will do something so great it benefits the entire world. That alone could raise his karma tremendously."

Xing Tian sighed. "I hope so."

All this time, Jin had simply been listening to their conversation, feeling rather excited. Karma — this is a completely new thing for me.

So if I do good deeds, I'll earn good karma, and my curse will weaken. I have to remember to do good things in the future and build up my karma.

While he was thinking this, suddenly the voice of his system echoed in his mind:

Congratulations, Host. You have discovered a new system function. Function Name: KarmaFunction Type: Stat

Hearing that, Jin was startled. He quickly said, System, open my status window!

Seeing his new stat window, Jin felt overjoyed. He quickly reached out and tapped on the Karma section to check its details.

As soon as he tapped, an information panel appeared in front of him:

*Karma: A heavenly point.

You can gain it simply by doing good deeds. But if you do bad deeds, your karma points will decrease.

The higher your karma, the weaker your tribulations will become.

If your karma goes into the negative, your tribulations will grow stronger.

You can also exchange karma for cultivation experience: 1 karma = 10,000 cultivation exp.*

Reading this, Jin grew even happier. *Finally, I got something good,* he thought, a smile spreading across his face — so wide that everyone nearby could see it.

Seeing this, the crowd was stunned. One person even blurted out, "Did that child just laugh instead of cry right after being born? That's a miracle!"

Elder Nalan Nil quickly turned to Tian Zhen and said, "Take the child back to his mother right away. This is no place for him to stay."

Tian Zhen nodded, then carefully picked Jin up and carried him back to the guest room.

As they were leaving, Tian Zhen announced to the gathered guests, "Just as I said earlier, there will be a ceremony in ten days. My grandson's name has been decided: Jin — a name granted by the Heavenly Dao itself. Please make sure you all attend, because there are still other important announcements to make."
