Chapter 16 - The Man Who Never Was

The moon hung like a silent god above Earth.Cold. Watching. Waiting.

And on its far side—where no telescope could see—a second Karma Engine had awakened.

Its guardian?A legend. A warning.

A man erased from every record except one.

The Zeroed Man.

Return to Shanghai

Back on Earth, Lin Wei sat atop a skyscraper in central Shanghai. The wind whispered. His card pulsed quietly in his palm.

He hadn't slept in 38 hours.

Not because of exhaustion. But because of vision.

Ever since the Karma Baptism in the Tokyo vault, his mind saw numbers where others saw sky.

People's karma threads glimmered above their heads.

Emotions translated into weight and flow.

Fate pathways branched with every heartbeat.

Li Mei approached from behind. "You look like you've aged ten years."

"I feel like I've lived a hundred."

She handed him tea. Jasmine. Warm. Grounding.

"You've been quiet since we left Tokyo."

Wei sighed. "Because I felt him. The Zeroed Man. He reached into my thoughts. Whispered…"

He looked at her, eyes filled with blue flame.

"There is no balance. Only resets."

Who Is the Zeroed Man?

In their underground base, the team gathered.

Noor projected fragmented archives. "There's no public data. No private data. Nothing."

Jude tapped his tablet. "It's like someone deleted him from the entire karmic structure."

Takeshi crossed his arms. "How does a man get erased from karma?"

Wei replied, "He didn't erase his karma. He consumed it."

The room fell silent.

Zhang Xinyi stepped forward from the shadows.

"I knew him," she said.

All eyes turned.

"I was there when he vanished."

Xinyi's Tale

"His name was Bo Ren," she began. "He was the first person chosen by the Karma Engine, long before me."

Wei leaned forward. "So he was the true first Architect?"

She shook her head. "He was the prototype. A trial. And the trial went wrong."

"Why?"

"Because Bo Ren rejected the idea of balance. He believed karma was slavery. That fate was a leash forged by weak men."

Jude scoffed. "Typical 'burn the system' villain."

"No," Xinyi said. "He wasn't evil. He was pure. Too pure. He wanted to free humanity. But in doing so, he disconnected his soul from the cycle."

Li Mei whispered, "What happens when karma doesn't touch you?"

Xinyi's eyes were sad. "You stop being real."

Moon Protocol Activated

Suddenly, Noor's console flashed red.

Karma Engine 02: Global Wake Signal – LIVE12 Karma Cities Just Received Pulse Signatures.

"What does that mean?" Takeshi asked.

Wei's voice was grim.

"It means he's starting to rewrite the rules."

The Twelve Sparks

All over the world, strange events began:

New York: A billionaire found all his wealth converted to fruit.

Cairo: The pyramids wept golden tears—screaming the names of forgotten slaves.

Paris: Eiffel Tower bent 10 degrees toward the sun.

Beijing: A monk floated 100 meters in the air, chanting forgotten karma hymns.

Mumbai: Trains moved backwards in time by 15 minutes.

London: Parliament vanished. No one remembered it ever existed.

Moscow: A child spoke thirty languages at once.

Istanbul: Birds recited people's sins aloud.

Rio: The Christ statue blinked—and cried.

Johannesburg: Gravity reversed in a city square for three seconds.

Seoul: Digital karma ledgers burst into flames.

Sydney: The Opera House played notes never composed by human hands.

Wei stared at the map.

"These aren't random."

Xinyi nodded. "They're anchors."

"For what?"

Wei's eyes burned.

"For a new reality."

The Invitation

That night, Lin Wei stood on his balcony. Alone.

The city pulsed below.

And then… it arrived.

A black envelope. Folded into origami.

He didn't touch it. But it unfolded anyway.

**To Lin Wei—Second Architect,You have seen the flaws.Come to the Moon. See the truth.

B.R.**

Beneath it, coiled in ghost ink:

"There is no karma without will."

Preparing for the Moon

"I'm going," Wei said the next morning.

His team stared.

"You'll die," Noor said flatly.

Jude: "Or worse—get rewritten."

Li Mei: "We're coming with you."

Wei shook his head. "You can't. The Moon isn't a place. It's a test. My karma alone determines the shape of what I'll face."

Zhang Xinyi placed a hand on his shoulder. "Then take this."

She handed him a ring.

A piece of the original engine core.

Wei slipped it onto his finger.

The ring whispered:

"Rewrite Authorization: Standby."

The Launch

The Infinite Card shimmered.

Reality Thread Access: Lunar Ascent Path – ACTIVEWould you like to travel beyond karma?

Wei pressed YES.

The sky split.

A silver staircase formed from moonlight.

One step.

Two.

Three.

He rose into the stars.

Toward the truth.

Toward the man who never was.

Toward the final architect.

Post-Credit Scene – Lunar Engine Core

Bo Ren stood alone in the center of a great void.

He wasn't smiling anymore.

He looked… sad.

He watched Earth.

And whispered:

"Forgive me, brother. But this world needs fire."

Behind him, a new Karma Engine began to spin.

Faster.

And faster.

Waiting for Lin Wei.

Waiting for the final choice.
