Chapter 6 - Chapter 6: Descent 2

Oblivious of those scheming gods thoughts, Ian turned to watch his small army team themselves preparing for tomorrow's assault. Mark and his team were standing at the stairwell access door keeping everyone safe, they were ready for anything that may cause danger to their commander from gaining access upstairs.

They all rested waiting, non of them anxious, they knew they were summoned to help and fight for their commander. They all wanted to do their best and perhaps impress their commander not for favorable treatment but to show their unwavering loyalty to him.

At exactly 0359hrs everyone stood at stairwell access door, guns raised, in tactical formation waiting to move out. The two generals, the tech team and Ian stayed behind to oversee the whole operation and give orders to the squads.

"All teams in position sir awaiting your orders," Vladimir said standing infront of Ian.

Ian nodded, giving the green light in silence.

"This is Bear 1 to alpha 1, you have the greenlight to advance, maintain silence until you secure the stairwell access from the 81st floor." This was Vladimir's call sign after a long time of thinking while Stones got Rocky 1 call sign.

"Copy that Bear 1, Alpha one out." Mark ended the call.

Receiving the orders, team alpha were the first to move out, their task to assess any potential threats not captured on camera and at the same time take control of the lower floors as the other teams dealt with those above them.

Ten minutes after their descent.

"Bear 1 this is alpha 1, we have access to the 82nd floor stairwell door, requesting reinforcement and take over team."

"Bravo 1 is moving in to reinforce your descent eta 30 sec, hold position and open fire if compromised."

"Copy Rocky 1 awaiting reinforcements, Alpha out." 25 sec later they had bravo teams footsteps and gunshots from automatic rifles from behind them.

"Breaching door in 3....2.....1 everyone we are moving in hot, hostiles have filled the stairwell and moving up." Mark notified his team.

"Alpha 1 to Bear 1, the eta on the takeover team." Mark called out as the barrage of bullets tore through the zombies like paper as they moved down towards the hallway.

"ETA 1 minute, machine gunners deployed to assist eta 30 sec."

Moments later, the takeover team arrived finishing off the remaining zombies and going ahead to clear the rooms.

The machine guns now facing the stairs tore through the hungry zombies creating a mess on the walls. After two minutes of nonstop firing, the numbers rushing up dropped and Mark moved in as the passed through the mess, finishing off the remaining zombies moving to the next floor.

Their strategy proved helpfull and since they received ammunitions constantly from a team tasked with the supplies, their descent was smooth and with the machine guns it was easier than before.

They went through the zombie hord floor by floor without stopping like madmen. At 0800hrs, after four hours of nonstop shooting, they had moved to the 75th floor, seven floors from their starting point despite the overwhelming number of undead. Lucky they had 5 androids who could go down to use their blows once they were out of ammo and the zombies kept coming.

Lucky they couldn't get infected, nobody wanted to imagine facing and android zombie with it's aloy bones that were harder than steel. Even Ian while giving orders to then felt himself sweating when they first went in to engage with their combat knifes. Mark had to assure him that him and his four teammates will be okay to calm down.

As they barricaded the stairs since the door here was broken, they turned to look at the carnage they had caused when they punched through to the 75th floor.

It looked like hell opened on earth or whatever that world is called, broken limps, rotten brains, eyes blown out of their sockets, blood and flesh painted the walls of the hallways as rotten flesh met with unstoppable bullets.

If the human rights group were to visit the place, they'll probably demonstrate thinking a massacre happened here, though it's practically a massacre happening only to already dead people.

As gluesome as the scene was they didn't even bat an eye, it was like they are used to this kind of scene. Even Ian at the command center felt his stomach churning ready to let out whatever he ate before the operation.

"Eagle to all teams clear up to the 75th floor and prepare for a debrief." Ian voice rang through the coms.

Ian checked and was happy to find that his maximum number of summons has gone up by 100. He could summon more soldiers but he was still low on coins and could face difficulty with equipment for them thus held back.

It started to feel like something was suppressing him not allowing him to bring his forces to this world.

"System why do I feel like am being suppressed, something or someone doesn't want me to exert all my strength here."

"Those are the laws of this world, you are a foreign entity hence to prevent you from changing the events that are supposed to unfold in this world too much, they treat your soldiers as a threat but since they can't eliminate them they kinda reduced the coins gained to reduce your budget in earth terms."

"That's a long ass explanation, I need to get out of this world, the gods can hear me right?" Ian asked his system.

"Yes, they are watching, you'll have to finish this mission for them to pull you out."

"Fine lady, I'll complete the mission and get us out. My soldiers might die from overworking if it goes on like this, I hope there are no mutated zombies in this world, right now with the limited resources I have it will be a massacre I can't afford."

Walking silently down the stairs feeling the cold the air seeping from the once blue walls now painted crimson. If pit in words I would say, "I was fine till you arrived to help, now it's all a mess." That's probably what the wall would've said if it could speak.

Ian thought to himself while moving down the stairs. The guy felt sorry for the walls, they looked worse than the ones in horror movies.

Huh what a waste, if this is gonna happen to my world I hope wherever I would be won't be that bad.

He stood Infront of his small army, lost and drifting in wild thoughts and imagination.

"Sir, Commander," a voice came from the communication device in his ear, pulling him out his own mind.

"Sorry guys, lost in my own thoughts there." He apologized with a smile. "You guys have done a wonderful job and deserve a rest after all the hard work you've done. Seems will be out of here even faster. I've got some bad news though, electricity will be out in about 15 hours meaning we will be going in blind after."

The soldiers took in a long breath realizing how delicate yet dangerous the whole situation was gonna get. Fighting zombies in the dark is not a very good experience since you don't know what's gonna happen next, you might be shooting the ones infront and get bitten by those crawling on the ground, I could lead to disaster in many levels.

Nobody seemed detared by Ian's words, they were treating it like a test and as dangerous as it was gonna get their eyes burning with bloodlust could not be hidden from Ian.
