"Mr. Wayne! My condolences for your late fiancee.
I am Jack Brown, leading the investigation for her case.", I say shaking his hand.
"Mr. Brown, nice to meet you. Let me just say, we hadn't been engaged yet.", he clarified with an uneasy chuckle.
"My apologies, perhaps I jumped to conclusions.", I conceded, "What can you tell me about Sarah?".
As we walk to his office, he seems to be deep in thought, while I study him closely. He doesn't seem like someone who just lost someone he cared about. Kind of reminds me of Adam's conclusion after his visit yesterday. I wonder if they had met previously.
I look to my colleague, walking next to me, and I can see he is sharing my thoughts.
We reach a cosy space, with a medium sized desk at the center wall. On the side is a large window that looks upon the street we came from, with the traffic jam below. A small brown leather couch is placed below the widow.
"Well, she was a hard-working, well-spoken, nicely dressed woman. She was always polite and had a bright smile for everyone."
That's quite a clinical analysis!! I can't feel anything from this guy. Apparently, the same goes for Adam. Where is this "quite the love story"?! Something doesn't feel right.
As we talk further, a very neat stack of documents catches my eye. It seems to be carefully placed, as opposed to the rest of the office.
Adam follows my line of vision, and suddenly he needs someone to guide him to the rest room. That someone, surprisingly, is no other than Christian.
Thank you, Adam. You gave me quite the window to get exactly what I need.
We left upon his return. But not before I noticed the relief on Christian's face, that the questioning was over.
As we return to our office, we find a familiar couple waiting for us.
Jennifer and Wade Parker.
