Kathy left, and Caleb managed to convince her it was a prank, but she told him the language he spoke sounded a lot like Hebrew.
Caleb couldn't speak Hebrew and initially thought Kathy was playing a prank on him, but that was far from the case.
Caleb realized the voice he had been hearing in his nightmares was of this same dialect.
"How is this possible?" Caleb thought to himself because this shouldn't be something that was happening in the first place.
Unless it was some sort of possession, but even if it was, he was still in full control of his body, which ruled out that possibility.
However, it was common for people to speak in tongues. Was that what happened to Caleb?
Caleb ruled this out because spirituality was the last thing he was.
The door creaked, alerting him of Eileen's return. He quickly dashed out of his father's study because he was aware of what would happen if she found him there.
There was no doubt she would scold him and potentially change the lock to his father's study.
This would deny him access in the future because he wouldn't be able to carry on his research anymore.
"Hey Caleb, I'm home!" Eileen shouted to inform him of her arrival, but fortunately for Caleb, he was already out of the study room.
"Something smells good, Kathy was here?" Eileen asked right away while Caleb was busy descending the stairs.
"Wow, I'm offended, Eileen!" Caleb barked at her, but Eileen laughed it off as they both knew he couldn't cook to save his life.
"You know I mean that most respectfully," Eileen said, but without access to her magic, she had no way of knowing what Caleb had done.
If she did have access, she would have enforced the door with it, because the truth was, if Caleb understood the world he was in,
she would be compromised, seeing as her entire existence relied solely on his protection. Should she fail,
it would be she who would face the consequences because Luke was a hunter even hunters feared, and should she get on his bad side, her death was assured.
The truth was, Eileen had no say in this matter, and the ancient artifact used on her was what kept her bound to him.
"Eileen, do you know when my father will return?" Caleb questioned, and Eileen had to think for a second before saying,
"I have no idea. Your father's job requires a lot of time away from home," Eileen responded.
"What does he do?" Caleb asked, and this question took Eileen aback because she had told him already.
However, she was beginning to realize he was coming to an age where he would question everything.
"He works for a travel agency. Is everything alright?" Eileen asked, but Caleb kept quiet for a second before sighing.
Caleb hated lying, especially to Eileen. There was no way he could keep things away from her.
"The dream…" Caleb began, pausing as he clutched his trousers, but Eileen placed her hand on top of his to calm him down.
"It is okay, you can tell me everything," Eileen reassured him, and Caleb instantly felt his trembling heart become still.
"I think I spoke Hebrew today…" Caleb blurted out, and the look of confusion on Eileen's face was visible, but that look soon changed to worry.
"... But you cannot speak Hebrew," Eileen reminded him, to which Caleb responded,
"Exactly."
This was worrying because it meant the seal she had placed on him was weakening, and should she use a spell to rectify it, there was no doubt the church would find her.
This was a complex decision, because which one would be saving his life?
Somewhere far away, a man crouched down and noticed the trail he had been following looked like a deliberate attempt to lead him away.
He had a gigantic cross dangling across his neck, and his purple eyes looked anything but holy.
"Luke… It looks like you are trying to protect something," the man muttered, and in the room, over a dozen bodies lay in their blood.
However, the blood wasn't red — it was green, showing it didn't belong to humans.
Demons that entered this world had created multiple abominations to roam the earth, including those that sold their souls in exchange for things no human should ever become.
This was one of such creations: werewolves. Except the myth of them only being able to transform on the full moon was utter nonsense.
He knew Luke was leading them away from something, but there was something Luke would have never guessed.
This man was one of the more extreme members of the church, who believed even evil could be used.
And this is why he left one alive — injured and begging for its life — because it had witnessed its brethren torn to shreds.
"You thought you were monsters? There is no monster my God cannot smite," the priest said, walking toward the werewolf, who was too weak to move an inch.
He took out a bloodied cloth and placed it over his nose.
"... But He is merciful," the man added. And this was the blood of someone who was born on the same day as Caleb.
And that was his twin brother. They had the same genetic makeup, so there was a chance he would be able to find Caleb through the blood of his twin brother.
"Now… Find me this person and I will extend the forgiveness of my Lord unto you," the man said, and the werewolf had no will to resist.
Because there was death — and there was something worse than that.
And that something was standing right in front of him.
