“Wait here for a moment. I will return momentarily.” Kyle deposited Murien and me on a bench before dragging the woman he had caught over to the station’s police stand. I watched as he explained the situation dispassionately to the officer on duty before handing over the criminal. As the detective started walking to the ticket booth, I bought ice cream for me and Murien to eat as we waited.
“Do you see anything, Murien?” I asked the small child, scanning the platform around me.
“Not right now.” Despite appearing like a three-year-old child, the creature was still a dragon. As long as I remained with Murien, there was little chance someone would be able to harm me. Unless, of course, the little creature drained all of my magic and killed me first. Unsurprisingly, the thought did little to bring me comfort. Quickly finishing my ice cream, I carefully kept my guard up, wary of the crowds around me.
