Chapter 12 - Aura of The Sun

With a blade to his neck, Helios wasn't sure what he should say to the man, luckily for him he didn't have to say anything.

"Father, he's Helios, my.....friend."

Jack comment left not just the father, but even Helios off guard.

'Does he really consider me his friend, with the way he's been acting I thought he hated me. Guess he really is a true tsundere.'

"That still doesn't explain how he was able to move."

Helios didn't understand the question so he just asked without thinking.

"Why is me moving such an issue?"

At this moment most of the servants that Helios could see from his vision gave him an odd look.

"Father, Helios is a Newcomer he's not accustomed, to the ways of this world yet."

"So..he's a Newcomer, still that does not explain how he moved in my presence, without me having given permission."

Helios was starting to figure out what was happening. The man behind him, presumably Jack's father was using some sort of pressure technique that would make others unable to move. But even knowing the reason for his suspicion, he wasn't able to come up with an answer since, he still lacked, what was considered common knowledge.

"Fine whatever the case, my son seems to trust you..."

With that the man lowered his sword, giving Helios the chance to finally turn around.

The man before him was someone who has clearly experienced his fair share of combat. On first glace one of the things that instansly took his attention were his eyes or eye to be more specific, since his right eye seemed to be missing, in its place was an eyepatch covering whatever terrible wound was behind it.

Other than that the man seemed to resemble Jack, he had brown hair, and his remaining eye carried the same hazel color as his son. But there were still some differences, the man was noticeably taller than not just Jack, but even Helios. His face also housed a beard which was very much not present on Jack's face.

With now face to face though Jack has already introduced him, he felt that it was best to also do it himself.

"I'm honored to make your acquaintance, I'm Helios a Newcomer, and future coworker of Jack."

Helios felt that this was a good introduction to someone of high standing, while also clarifying his connection to his son.

"Follow me you two, I feel like we have to talk."

The man said and led them to a room on the second floor.

Once inside the room looked rather barren, only having four expensive looking chairs and a table in the middle, it seemed to be a place where discussions would go down if they had guests of important positions over.

As they all took their seats the man started talking.

"As a Newcomer you may not yet know me, so let me also introduce myself, I am Gideon Phoenix the head of the Phoenix family."

"I'm He...."

"I've already heard it the first two times, no need to repeat yourself. So tell me how were you able to resist the Sun Aura of the Phoenix family, a mere Newcomer shouldn't be able to resist such a thing so easily."

"The Sun Aura?"

"It's one of the signiture techniques of our family, the heads of family get the privilege of learning this technique as a way to further solidify their control over the family."

Jack said to the confused Helios.

"Wait, I thought abilities were earned though resonance, how can it be learned?"

Jack somewhat flustered looked to his father, as if asking permission.

"You've already said too much you may as well tell him everything."

"So, while it's true that most techniques can only be acquired through resonance, some can be taught, so long as the compatibility between the concepts is good enough. So this technique is originally a sun type Concepter ability, we were able to learn it since the Phoenix's closeness to flames, and by extension to the sun."

Hearing this Helios had a number of different things to think about, like, could he also learn different techniques that only closely related to the sun in the future, but then something came to his mind.

'Wait....sun?'

"Wait Jack, I feel I may have just found the answer to your father's prior question"

While Helios was expecting Jack to answer the one speaking was instead Gideon, his father.

"Well, do tell me I'm rather curious..Helios."

"I think it may have something to do with my concept."

"Your concept? What is your concept."

"It's the....sun."

"The sun? Your concept is the sun. Are you sure?"

"Father, I can testify it too, I was there when he first found his concept."

A sudden wave of silence swept through the room, only for it to be interrupted by a loud laughter.

"Haha so you are the suns new Concepter. Well that explains everything."

Gideon seemed truly amused by this statement, but Helios still didn't understand why him being the Concepter of the sun was such a big deal.

"I'm sorry, but I have to ask this...sir, why are you so amused?"

"Since it has been a thousand years since the last well know sun Concepter appeared. And of course, the Sun Aura wouldn't work on true sun Concepter haha. Hey, Jack have you told anyone else about this?"

"I had to report most details to my superiors so I also did report Helios's status as a sun Concepter."

"And, did anything ususual happen?"

"Well...now that I think about it that offer seemed rather suspicious."

Helios hearing about the offer could only think of thing, the offer he got from the official to become a government worker.

"Wait, what's wrong with that offer?"

Helios asked, scared that he accidentally missed something

"Nothing, it's just too good. While you did contribute to the battle back in Alt Village, you wouldn't usually get offered a job, you would just have a slight shortening of your military service, but..."

"Are you sure? While that offer was better than going to the military, it still wasn't that great in my opinion."

"Getting a job for the government is not that simple especially, something like what you were offered, while it may not look great at first glance it's actually a very good offer."

"Okay, I get it the offer is good, but what do they get out of giving me such an offer."

Suddenly Gideon's rough voice unexpectedly answered Helios's question.

"They want to keep you there, close to themselves. I wouldn't be surprised if by this point even the goddess knew of you."

"Is the sun's Concepter really that important?"

"Very important, the last Concepter of the sun was one of the most important people in this world's history. He was the Sun King. The one who ruled the world a thousand years ago."

'Such an important person is my predecessor, that's somewhat overwhelming.'

"When the Kingdom of the Sun was still standing he was it's king, back then the world was ever peaceful, leading a life of prosperity, but then the sun came down, and the kingdom was wiped from the face of Sanctuary."

'The sun came down.'

"Listen Helios the importance of a sun Concepter is maybe the greatest in this world. You should think that offer through one more time, so you don't accidentally regret it."

"I'll do that."

With that it seemed as if their discussion finally got to its end. Of course not before Jack could ask another question.

"Father can Helios stay in the guest room for tonight."

"Of course, he can stay as long as he wishes."

With that the head, Gideon left the room.

"Phew, that was something."

Helios proclaimed, finally being able to catch his breath.

"Hey, Jack why didn't you tell me how important I was?

"I didn't want to see you making such a face that's why."

And indeed, though Helios couldn't see he had large grin on his face. The thought of being the most important person in the world really made him excited to say the least.

"Anyways what's that Sanctuary place your father mentioned, near the end."

"Oh, that's the name of the world."

"Why?"

"You already know about Newcomers like yourself, so this should be easy to understand. Roughly ten thousand years ago this place was empty, but then the first Newcomers arrived and called this place the Sanctuary. Now, you understand it?"

"Yes, I do. So technically your ancestors were also Newcomers, right?"

"Correct."

Having discussed most things, while he still had a few questions, he decided to leave them for later, because first he wanted to get a short nap.

"Jack, how do I get to my room"

"Just ask one of the servants."

With that Helios left the room and asked the nearest servant for help. With the servant's lead he was able to find his new room.

Arriving in it a few things stood out. The room was much larger than the one he stayed at in Alt Village. Next was the look of the room as a whole, it looked extravagant for a guest room, it really screamed 'noble' to Helios. But other than, size and aesthetics, the room was somewhat similiar to the one from before, of course how different can a simple room really be. It still had a bed just slightly bigger and seemingly more comfortable, and it also had a desk, that one not being much different. But there was one thing that wasn't in Alt Village, but was present here, something Helios wanted to see for a long time, a mirror.

Helios finally had the chance to properly look at himself, since for whatever reason Alt Village didn't have any mirrors inside. Of course he did have a general idea of how he looked, but having the opportunity to see his physical changes for himself was still better.

Standing in front of the mirror what welcomed him on the other side was a man, with long golden blond hair, red eyes and handsome facial features, even his build looked to be close to perfection.

'This life is great, not only am I the most imprtant person in the world, but I'm handsome too.'

Helios to say the least was pleased with what he saw.

With not much else to do Helios went to his bed and got ready to have a small nap, but about twenty minutes into his nap he got woken up by the sudden sound of banging on his door and then a voice came from behind it.

"Helios!"
