Chiga slightly shifted his body, sighing inwardly. After dealing with Kaido, now he had to face Shanks. The workload today was truly absurd. He suddenly understood Kizaru a bit better—slacking off did sound appealing sometimes.
Kalifa looked at him with concern.
"Boss, are you alright?"
Chiga gave her a reassuring smile.
"Don't worry, I've got more than enough left in me."
Ace and Yamato's eyes sparkled like stars. The opponent wasn't just anybody—it was Red-Haired Shanks, one of the Four Emperors!
Yet Big Brother Chiga could remain completely calm… Truly a formidable man.
Yamato, especially, was brimming with excitement. She had personally witnessed Chiga defeat her father, Kaido. Now, she was about to witness him face off against Red-Haired Shanks. For someone who had just earned her freedom, this was nothing short of thrilling.
In her heart, the title of "strongest" was changing hands. She was even considering changing her title—this time, she wouldn't use her master's full name. From now on, she would be known as Uchiha Yamato!
Chiga, unaware that the dwindling Uchiha clan had just gained a 2.6-meter-tall honorary member, looked at Shanks and said,
"One of the Four Emperors, Red-Haired Shanks, actually came to this tiny village himself. You must be very free these days."
Shanks gave a slightly forced smile.
"Just visiting an old friend. Doesn't Vice Admiral Purple Kirin have friends here too?"
As he spoke, he glanced at Makino behind Chiga. She had mentioned calling someone "very, very powerful," but at the time, he hadn't paid it much mind. He knew the East Blue's state well—there was no way Makino could make a call and summon Garp just like that.
Even if she did contact Garp, it would take time for him to get here from Marine Headquarters. By then, Shanks would've long since returned to sea—or maybe even dropped by to spar with Mihawk.
What he hadn't expected was for Makino to summon someone like Uchiha Chiga. How did those two even know each other?
It was like seeing a knife poking out of a peach—truly eye-opening.
There was no point in dragging things out now. Shanks drew the saber from his waist. This fight was unavoidable.
Still, he wasn't particularly nervous. He figured this island couldn't possibly withstand a battle at their level. They wouldn't go all out—a few blows to make a statement should be enough.
Chiga, however, had other ideas. He opened the Door-Door space, allowing others to enter. Ace didn't forget to carry Luffy in. Shanks didn't interfere; he understood it was a form of protection.
He would indeed hold back, but even so, this forest wouldn't survive the encounter.
With preparations complete, Chiga and Shanks locked eyes. Almost simultaneously, their Conqueror's Haki erupted. A red wave clashed with a purple one in the space between them.
A dark rift tore open in the sky above them—a standard prelude to any battle between Emperor-level powerhouses. Few could withstand the pressure that followed.
The land beneath them shattered with dense spiderweb cracks, as if the ground itself was about to give out.
This Conqueror's Haki was no longer just an intimidation tool; it brought real, tangible destruction. Weaker individuals wouldn't just faint—they would perish.
Their Haki clashed for a time, but in the end, the purple Conqueror's Haki began to overwhelm the red.
Shanks's face darkened. Among the Four Emperors, he was the only one who hadn't eaten a Devil Fruit. He had risen to Emperor status purely through mastery of Haki—and now, his strongest asset was being forced back. It wasn't an easy pill to swallow.
Seeing the aura clash turning against him, a red-black gleam lit up in Shanks's eyes. His saber buzzed with energy as he wrapped it in that same red-black Conqueror's Haki.
In a flash, Shanks appeared above Chiga, his saber cloaked in crackling lightning.
"Divine Departure!" he shouted.
Hearing the move's name, Chiga grinned.
"As expected of Roger's crewmate… You really did inherit that."
A black staff enveloped in purple-black lightning formed in Chiga's hand. He swung upward to meet the descending slash, shouting with mock playfulness,
"Thunder Bagua!"
Shanks twitched mid-air, but didn't dare lose focus. Any distraction at this level could be fatal.
BOOM!
A pitch-black sphere of energy formed between their weapons, radiating violent waves of pressure. The ground finally gave way, collapsing entirely.
In the aftermath, the surrounding terrain was devastated. Trees had fallen. The landscape had been turned into a deep basin.
Chiga forced Shanks back with a final swing. The red-haired Emperor used the momentum to land on his original position.
He glanced at the ruined surroundings and frowned. This level of damage was beyond what he expected. Continuing the fight like this would be problematic.
Shanks opened his mouth to propose a truce. He truly didn't want to keep fighting.
But then he saw Chiga again—and his expression changed completely.
Chiga's Rinnegan had transformed into two blazing streaks of purple lightning. He raised his elementalized arm and unleashed a thick bolt of lightning into the sky.
It struck the clouds.
In the blink of an eye, thunderclouds filled the sky. Thunder rumbled overhead.
Shanks's nerves tensed. He knew Chiga possessed the Goro Goro no Mi, and with a top-tier Logia in the hands of someone of his level, the danger was real.
He had no Devil Fruit himself, but even he had to acknowledge how massive a boost one could give.
The sky gradually quieted. Only faint flickers of purple lightning hinted that something was coming.
Shanks gripped his sword tighter. His Observation Haki was screaming. He felt locked on by something he couldn't yet see—and whatever it was, it was up in the sky.
The lightning faded from Chiga's eyes. He smiled faintly and raised his hand.
"500 Million Volts – Purple Kirin."
The moment his words fell, a massive purple Kirin-shaped beast formed in the thunderclouds above. Intelligent and menacing, it locked its gaze on Shanks below.
The move drew inspiration from Sasuke's Kirin, but Chiga's version—Purple Kirin—was on an entirely different level. It didn't require specific weather or Fire Style buildup.
And its speed… was near-instantaneous. Without special defenses, dodging it with mere physical speed was impossible.
In the original world, Sasuke had used his Kirin to force out Itachi's Susanoo. But this—this was far more terrifying.
Shanks began to sweat. His instincts screamed that this was a true death threat.
He activated every ounce of Haki he had. His Observation warned him: if he didn't go all out now, he'd die.
But before he could finish his preparations…
The Purple Kirin in the sky descended—its speed several times faster than sound—swallowing the battlefield in blinding, crackling light.
Nothing could be seen.
Just raw lightning, exploding across the entire zone.
Then… silence.
Only scorched earth remained.
