Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Restless Nights (Leo, part one)

I stood at the entrance of the orphanage. I had spent my entire life within these walls, and now, I was leaving for good. I felt relieved but also nervous at the same time. That orphanage was awful, and they always treated us, me specifically, terribly. I turned around one last time to look at Luna waving at me. I smiled and waved back. I turned forward and walked away. I was wearing a hoodie, so I put my hood on. Luna and I had only just separated, and it already felt like it had been an eternity. I walked around the orphanage and found a good spot for me to sit down and wait for Luna. I sat down and put my duffle bag right next to me. I knew the caretakers would be inside, patrolling to make sure that Luna wouldn't try to leave. This meant leaving during the day would be impossible, reckless, and not smart at all.

I went into the pocket of my hoodie and found a crumbled-up, old, small photo of Luna and I and looked at it. I already miss her so much. I felt grateful that she was my twin. Luna and I looked exactly alike.

Luna has piercing blue eyes that looks like the night sky reflected on water, she has the same hair as me jet black which fell just past her ears. One thing that separated Luna and I, she was always very intouch with her emotions while I was always a wildcard that would go off at any moment. I admired this about her. Her wardrobe was mostly light pink, black, and neutral colors.

I knew I still had hours to wait since Luna wouldn't be able to escape yet. I waited until 10 and knew Luna would probably be escaping the orphanage now. I was excited to see her again so we could finally go off together and start to do the things we never could. I kept seeing caretakers walk by, which I thought was weird, and I kept putting my head down or looking away so they wouldn't notice me. I heard one of them say that Luna had been kidnapped. I jumped up, went towards the caretaker, and grabbed her. "Luna's been what???" I said. She looked at me unamused. "Where's Luna?" I asked, practically yelling. "Oh, you're Luna's brother. She ran away. One of the caretakers went after her, and some man came and took her. We don't know where she is." I was panicking. I let go of the caretaker then, I ran to go look for her, and the caretaker walked away. "LUNA! LUNA?" I yelled, running around the city. I then saw a man walking up to me with a woman in his arms. I ran up to him, It was Luna in his arms. I looked up at the man.

He had short dark hair, he had pale skin, he was wearing dark black leather clothing. His eye's drew the most attention; silver eyes.

"You must be Leo Moonlight?" He asked me calmly, but I paid no attention. I looked down at Luna and lifted my hands above her head, hovering over her head, then said, "Luna? Are you ok?" I asked, but no response. He looked at me with a saddened expression. "She's out cold, she'll be okay, though. She hit her head pretty hard against the concrete, so it will be a while." "CONCRETE??" I yelled as I lifted her head and saw blood on the back of her head. It looked pretty bad. I looked over at her feet and noticed she had no shoes on. "Where are her shoes?" I asked. "She had no shoes on when I found her." He replied, "My name is Orion. Follow me." He said, and I did. The entire way, the only thing I could think about was if Luna was okay. We eventually arrived at his house.

Orion's house was an old stone cottage on the outskirts of town, surrounded by ivy and weathered with time. Its steep, grey roof and arched windows gave it a mysterious, almost ancient feel. Inside, the dimly lit rooms are filled with antique furniture, faded tapestries, and shelves of books and strange artifacts. The wooden floors creak underfoot, and the air carries the scent of old pages and the soft crackle of a fire in the hearth. It was quiet, isolated, and had an aura of both comfort and mystery, a place that feels as if it's been untouched by time. He set Luna down on the couch, and I immediately ran to be by her side. Orion officially introduced himself to me. "My name is Orion stonewalker, I was assigned by your mother to protect you and your sister." I looked back at him angrily. "My mother abandoned us. She doesn't care about us. Just because she decides to feel bad or whatever now doesn't give her the right to come back into our lives now. We don't need her." Orion nodded in understanding.

"Leo, your mother's dead. She's been dead for years now." I stood down. "But, if you were sent to protect us, why now? Why not when we were children?" Orion sat down and sighed, put his head down, and shook it. "This will be something I regret for the rest of my life that you had to be in that awful orphanage with no one to take care of you." He paused, looked me directly in the eyes, and continued. "Your mother placed a spell on you and your sister when you were born to protect you from evil. This spell was to hide you. As long as it was active, no one would ever be able to find you. This included me. After she died, I was supposed to get you and raise you, but I guess child protective services found you first." He stopped. "Leo, I'm so sorry that you and Luna weren't able to be raised by your mother or by me. It will always be my greatest regret that I wasn't able to find you before today." I looked at him, then laughed. "Yeah, good joke guy. You're crazy." I grabbed Luna and was about to leave before I was pushed back. I was trapped.
