Chapter 9 - Cc 1718

Chapter 17: Chad's Inner Turmoil

Chad's room was a meticulously curated display of "success"—trophy shelves overflowing with awards, posters boasting of his online achievements, and gaming equipment gleaming under strategically placed lighting. But Chad himself was slumped on his bed, surrounded by discarded energy drink cans and crumpled papers, looking exhausted.

"It's all a lie," he muttered, kicking at a discarded pizza box. A single tear rolled down his cheek, quickly wiped away.

"The perfect gamer? The ultimate influencer? The Chad-father of all online dominance?" He laughed, a hollow, bitter sound. "More like the pathetic, lonely kid who hides behind a screen."

He picked up his phone, scrolling through comments on his latest stream. The comments were overwhelmingly positive, showering him with praise and admiration.

"They think I'm amazing. They think I'm invincible." He slammed the phone onto the bed.

"They don't see the hours spent perfecting every move, every joke, every carefully crafted persona. They don't see the fear, the self-doubt, the crushing weight of expectation," he said, grabbing a plush T-Hugger toy and squeezing it tightly.

"I'm terrified of failing. Terrified of them finding out who I really am. A nobody. A fraud." He stared at his reflection in the darkened monitor screen, his eyes filled with a mixture of sadness and vulnerability.

"Maybe... maybe I need to change."

Chapter 18: A Tentative Truce

Felicia and Chad sat on the floor, surrounded by discarded pizza boxes and empty soda cans. The chaos of the "influencer war" was still etched on their faces, but a faint smile played on Felicia's lips. Chad nervously paced in front of her, clutching a small, intricately carved wooden bird.

"So, uh… I… I brought you this," he mumbled, offering the bird.

Felicia took it gently, turning it over in her hands. "It's beautiful, Chad. Thank you."

"I… I carved it myself. It's a phoenix. Symbolizes… rebirth, you know?" He avoided her gaze, fidgeting with his fingers.

"I know," Felicia replied.

"Look, about what happened… the whole influencer war… I was a jerk. A total, self-absorbed, filter-obsessed jerk," he winced, looking genuinely contrite.

"I know you were trying to protect me," Felicia acknowledged.

"In the worst possible way. I used your vulnerability to boost my own following. I'm so sorry," Chad confessed.

"I appreciate that you're taking responsibility," Felicia said.

"I deleted all those fake accounts. I even apologized publicly. My engagement rate's tanked, but… it feels… right," he smiled, a genuine smile this time, devoid of the usual manufactured charm.

"That takes courage, Chad. Real courage," Felicia commended.

"I guess I realized… it's better to be authentically me, even if it means losing some followers," he looked at Felicia, a hopeful glimmer in his eyes.

"I think you'll find the right followers appreciate that more. And you know, maybe we can collaborate again sometime… on something a little more… genuine," Felicia smiled warmly at him.

Chad beamed, his relief palpable. "Really? That would be amazing." He carefully placed the carved bird on her desk, a symbol of a new beginning.
