Chapter 2 - New Beginning

Silence.

Not the peaceful kind, but the kind that hums with tension—too still, too empty.

'Is this what death feels like… it's strange and lonely, huh. Not much difference then'

His life's memories began to flash not as a montage, but in fragments.

Sitting in a dark room, solving logic puzzles as a child.

Staring too long at a stranger and realizing exactly what they were hiding behind their smiling facades.

Humans they were always too readable, too predictable, too boring.

And then he turned to books, data, numbers, information, anything useful with secrets he could decipher to bring a little excitement into his life.

Late nights at the office, surrounded by screens, he was more comfortable with data than people.

And then the alley.

'Ah.. I think that was fun? Definitely the most excitement I've had in a while'

The armed man.

The gun.

Death.

But then, there was more.

Hunger.

Stealing from food stalls.

Fighting for survival.

And then more hunger.

These memories seemed foreign, yet familiar at the same time.

And then death, once more.

Or what should have been

death.

Then came the light.

Not a tunnel, not heaven—like he'd read so many times. No it was glowing, ancient, floating in the space that felt like both dream and reality.

Welcome to Veridith.]

The words imprinted themselves not on his eyes, but his soul. He understood them intuitively, as if they'd always been there, waiting.

And there was a storm of foreign yet familiar memories.

He was an orphan, a child,

then a teenager, a scavenger, a survivor and his name was.. Victor'. Strangely

they melded with him like they've always been part of him.

'Are these both my lives… so I

was meant to die twice, huh'. There was a pang of grief when he had this thought,

not understanding the situation clearly but somehow accepting it.

Then—the cold hit him. It dug

into his skin like knives.

His vision opened to a dim room that reeked of damp ground and dirty bodies. He noticed that he was lying on rough stone, shivering. His limbs were...wrong.They were Smaller. Weaker.

Thin arms. Bony knees. He let out a raspy breath.

He sat up slowly, every joint in this body of his protesting. Around him lay children, curled into themselves, whimpering in their sleep.

He wasn't in NY. He instinctively knew.

Something had changed—no, everything had changed

He blinked. The message faded, but the feeling remained—a sense of connection to something ancient and

powerful.

Victor pulled his knees to his chest, trying to warm himself. He was scared. But he wasn't going to panic. Not yet at least.

Victor's eyes scanned the status panel once more, absorbing the array of data before him. As he meticulously examined the attributes and stats, a new realization struck

him—his surname was now…

"Primoris?" he muttered, disbelief etched on his face.

This was a sharp contrast to his previous life's surname, 'Miller'. He felt a pang of confusion

as he remembered that in his new life, his current body had no family and, thus, no surname.

He had knowledge of several languages, including Latin, which quickly led him to investigate the

meaning behind 'Primoris.' The word resonated with notions of 'first' or

'foremost', yet he could not find a clear significance or connection to his

current situation. It seemed like an arbitrary label rather than something with

a profound meaning.

"I don't know what this place

is, but I sure as hell plan on finding out" he whispered to himself.

He looked around turning from left to right. The room was silent except for the breathing of the other

children. Victor strained his ears, trying to pick up any other sounds—footsteps,

voices, anything at all. But there was nothing. The silence was oppressive amplifying the fear that gnawed at him.

He reached out and his hand brushed against a body. This one was still, the chest was rising with a steady rhythm, clearly, the person was asleep. He kept searching for several

but just bumped into more sleeping bodies.Eventually he gave up.

There was nothing. Just cold stone and the echo of soft breathing in the dark.

Victor sighed and leaned back against the wall. Wherever he was, it wasn't a place meant for comfort—or

escape.

He didn't know it, but a smile crept onto his face. He'd just have to find a way.
