Chapter 27 - Chapter 27: Battle Against Kuangzhan!

Dark tremors shook the underground prison as Gu You struggled to stabilize himself. Around him, the other captives were bruised and battered, some staggering, others collapsing under the aftershocks.

"Oh no! The Federation army has broken in!"

"Broken in, my ass! It's just a few purple-grade mechas, nothing impressive. You stay here and keep watch. I'll go help out on the front line."

Gu You's sharp hearing caught the entire conversation from thirty meters away, every word clear.

Something big was happening outside.

This was the perfect time to escape — Gu You knew it instinctively.

Rip!

In front of the stunned gazes of the prisoners, Gu You grabbed the iron bars of the cage and, with raw strength, pried open a massive gap.

"There's still electricity on these things," Gu You muttered, shaking his slightly numb hands. He turned to the others, giving a subtle nod, signaling them to run.

"We're saved! We're free!!"

As expected, the panicked crowd surged out all at once, stampeding toward freedom — leaving behind only the crazed woman who had long lost her mind and the terrified little girl, Qian Yu, cowering in the corner.

Let them test the waters first, Gu You thought coldly.

"They've escaped! They've escaped!!" the evil soul masters outside yelled in alarm.

"Ha! Freedom!!"

Screams echoed.

"A monster… a monster! Don't eat me!"

"Ah, it's been so long since I tasted so much fresh flesh. Originally, I wasn't even supposed to touch you, but since you're offering yourselves up… I won't hold back."

Just as Gu You suspected, it wasn't going to be easy to escape. Still, judging by the situation, most of the high-level enemies were probably preoccupied fighting the mechas.

Before leaving, Gu You glanced back at Qian Yu trembling in the corner.

Guess I'll play the good guy this once. He dropped some food beside her.

"It was you! Ha! So you're the one who gave my daughter the candy — you must have more, right?"

The crazed woman suddenly lunged at Gu You, her sharp, shrieking voice cutting through the darkness.

"What's that noise in there? Oh~ sounds like there's still something left to eat," a deep, delighted voice rumbled. Kuangzhan, the savage brute, peered toward the sealed chamber.

Shit!

"Damn you, crazy hag! You're going to get me killed!"

Gu You's temper snapped. Purple dragon scales instantly covered his left arm, and with a vicious thrust, he pierced his claw clean through the woman's chest. Warm blood splattered across his face as her body crumpled to the floor.

A faint whimper came from the corner. Gu You turned stiffly, his dragon claw still twitching, his breath heavy. He could feel it — his blood roaring, his heart pounding.

His first kill… yet there was no fear. In fact, there was something strangely thrilling about it.

"No!"

Gu You lost control, swinging his claw toward Qian Yu.

Bang!

Suddenly, Gu You was sent flying backward, smashing into the wall as a hulking figure stepped forward, flexing a massive fist.

Kuangzhan, the savage bear, grinned wickedly. He glanced from Gu You's dragon claw to the woman's corpse, then to the trembling Qian Yu. Realization dawned on his scarred face.

"Haha! So this is the Federation's proud little hero? Killing each other already? How amusing! Don't worry, little girl — I'll avenge you first… and then I'll eat you!"

Gu You staggered to his feet, blood dripping from his mouth, but his body surged with a rising power. Behind him, the faint shadow of a purple dragon loomed, more solid, more real than ever before.

"Purple-Gold Destruction Strike!"

A fierce dragon roar erupted as Gu You charged forward, golden beams lashing out with his Darkgold Dreadclaw.

Kuangzhan's grin faded for the first time. He actually sensed danger.

Seven soul rings rose beneath his feet. His massive body swelled by two or three meters, every vein on his skin bulging, and behind him, the terrifying visage of the Bloodthirst Bear roared into view.

A Soul Sage!

Gu You cursed inwardly. His second soul ring lit up, pouring his full spiritual power into the attack.

"Purple Fear Gaze!"

Enhanced by his Purple Demon Eye, this was Gu You's strongest mental strike.

Kuangzhan froze for a split second, eyes wide. For a moment, he saw… his mother — the mother who had once loved him most.

But only for three seconds.

Kuangzhan shook himself free, snapping back to his senses — but by then, Gu You was already within striking range. With terrifying force, Gu You slammed his dragon-clawed fist forward, the sheer impact causing the entire space to tremble faintly.

This was his full-power punch, enhanced by soul power and the Darkgold Dreadclaw — at least five or six thousand pounds of crushing force.

Boom!

Dust billowed through the room.

Impossible.

Gu You was sent flying again, crashing hard into the wall and coughing up a mouthful of blood.

As the smoke cleared, Kuangzhan stood tall, a faint glow pulsing across his armored body. His one-word battle armor lit up with a single, gleaming character:

狂 — "Kuang" (Madness).

Gu You gritted his teeth, snatching up his seventh-grade soul bottle and gulping down a dose of thick spiritual liquid. Switching modes rapidly, he kept refilling his drained soul power.

He couldn't win this.

Evil soul masters were already stronger than ordinary soul masters — and this one was a Soul Sage, equipped with battle armor. His strength was close to an average Title Douluo.

No choice — I'll have to escape.

Kuangzhan chuckled darkly.

"You've impressed me, little brat. Forcing me to bring out my armor… but this will be the last time. I, Kuangzhan, a black-rank evil soul master, nearly forced to exert myself against a two-ring Soul Grandmaster… if word gets out, I'll be laughed at for the rest of my life."

He raised his fist.

"Die."

Just as Kuangzhan gathered power for a finishing blow, his expression flickered — dazed, unfocused.

Only for a few seconds.

But by the time he snapped back, Gu You was already gone.

"ARGH! That little bastard!! If I don't eat you today, I'm not worthy of my name!"

Kuangzhan howled in fury, ignoring everything else as he barreled after his prey.

"Damn it!"

Zetao clenched his fists. The other mechas had all been destroyed, and only a handful of soul masters remained — mostly Soul Kings, their strength fading fast.

And he — the last one standing — how much longer could he hold on?

Against these evil soul masters, Zetao had come prepared, even outfitting his mecha with light-based weapons to maximize damage. But in the face of overwhelming power, those tools meant little.

Ahh!

A Soul King comrade was crushed, his head popping like a melon in the grip of a Soul Emperor–level evil soul master.

The fallen warrior's soul began drifting upward, drawn toward the colossal monstrosity looming in the sky — a massive, writhing black eye, its surface crawling and pulsing, flanked by two enormous, clawed arms.

Dark energy coiled around it, radiating suffocating pressure.

"Draw blade!"

Zetao's mecha unsheathed a gleaming weapon from its back, its blade radiating a piercing aura of light.

A sixth-grade soul-guided weapon — his last trump card.

If this didn't work… death was the only outcome.

His mecha surged forward, cutting a sleek path through the air as all his soul power poured into the blade.

A streak of blinding brilliance slashed across the sky.

"Ugh, this aura is disgusting," one evil soul master spat in disgust.

"It's useless. Your failure was decided the moment you challenged us."

The brilliant light arced upward, engulfing the monstrous eye.

When the radiance faded, only the plummeting mecha remained — falling from the sky, leaving behind nothing but a faint wisp of smoke.
