Chapter 2 - Growing Symptoms.

Kirika woke up the next morning, the light of the morning sun touched her skin and she smiled at that. She stretched while sitting up, she wondered when she would be discharged.

She stared out the window, seemingly enjoying the view from the hospital room, she wanted to walk again...but that would probably feel somewhat awkward due to not being on the ground for three months. "Yeah I guess I need some physical therapy."

Still, she did want to get off the bed and atleast lo9k at herself in the mirror, she wondered how pale she looked and she need to examine her teeth...and also the embarrassment of getting cleaned by nurses would never leave her mind.

Just thinking about it again makes her shudder.

In an unknown location where endless light spills, a girl with yellow eyes and hair of pure gold was on a Magnificent gold throne as she looked into a large golden scroll. The scroll had many names written on it, the names almost seemed endless.

The girl frowned, one of the names at the very top of the scroll seemed to have disappeared and the one that took its place flickered before turning into ash and disappearing.

The girl snapped her finger and then l99ked down.

Below her were creatures made from endless light and flames, she ignored them and her gaze dropped deeper down until her eyes caught the sight of a small blue and green planet.

"The little witch has escaped the curse that was casted on her by this supreme being and now she has passed it onto someone...pure of heart and that curse seemed to have become a bit strange...this supreme would not interfere in the matter if mortals as the witch did not break any rule, she has transferred the curse using a method unknown to this supreme being, I shall not curse her since that would cause some problems between this supreme being and the Starless Mother."

The hest shifted near her and another being appeared, the being had silver hair and eyes. She lo9ked identical to the other girl. "This supreme being greets the older sister, the witch has escaped the curse."

A bloody smell was now in the air as everything seemed to have turned red. Another voice appeared and said",This Supreme One is curious on how the witch transfered This Supreme ones Sanguine Vampira.",

A girl with crimson red hair and eyes appeared near the two. The three had the same features.

The crimson-haired girl's gaze burned fiercely as she stepped forward, the red aura around her intensifying with every word. "The curse was not meant to be passed on. It was eternal. To break it… to transfer it—that's an act of defiance that cannot go unanswered."

The golden-haired girl sighed, her delicate fingers tracing the empty space where the name had vanished from the scroll. "True, but the witch did not simply break the curse—she wielded an ancient power unknown to even This Supreme. A power tied to the Starless Mother, a force older than the stars themselves."

Her silver-haired sister's eyes narrowed thoughtfully. "Then we must watch closely. If this power corrupts the mortal, it could either doom or change the course of everything."

The golden-haired sovereign rose gracefully from her throne, the light surrounding her intensifying until it flooded the entire realm with brilliance. She looked down once more at the blue and green planet spinning in the void.

"Very well," she declared. "Let the curse remain—for now. But the one who carries it must be monitored. If she becomes a threat, This Supreme will intervene. Until then, the game unfolds."

The crimson-haired girl's eyes glimmered darkly. "The game has already begun."

Yuna came again today but this time with her father, Since Kirika's guardian is...'unavailable', they have decided to take her in since only two of them lived in their house and Yuna is mostly alone due to her father going to work and cover some cases.

At first Kirika insisted she could stay alone and didn't need to worry about her that much...but Yuna scolded her quite harshly making her give in.

The doctor said she could be discharge tomorrow which gave Kirika a bit of relief, soon the next day passed like a breeze but Kirika barely felt that.

She slept very late last night for some reason and she still felt energetic...something really is strange about her.

Yuna was now behind her. Pushing her wheelchair while Kirika was slightly pouting. She then muttered. "You really didn't have to do this."

//She's acting super grumpy today, is it that time of the month for her?//

Kirika heard her thoughts again and immediately felt a twitch in her eyebrow. She turned her head slowly, giving Yuna a flat look.

"No. It's not that time of the month," Kirika said, deadpan.

Yuna blinked. "...I didn't say that out loud."

Kirika froze.

Damn it. Again? She forced a laugh, trying to play it off. "I mean… you're easy to read, Yuna."

Yuna narrowed her eyes. "Uh-huh. You're being weird again. Ever since you woke up."

"I nearly died, give me a break," Kirika grumbled, turning her head back to face the hallway ahead. But her mind was spiraling. The mind-reading—or whatever it was—was getting clearer. More frequent. She didn't even have to focus anymore; people's thoughts just… slipped into her head like whispers on the wind.

Soon they reached the cat and Yuna's father helped carry Kirika and sat her on the back seat. Yuna also sat there to keep her company.

The two girls began to chat as Yuna's father drove the car home. Within mere moments they already there and Yuna went out quickly to take out the wheelchair that was folded in the car booth and then placed it on the ground and then helped Kirika get on it.

"Well I'm off two work, Yuna, male sure to take care of Kirika while I'm gone."Yuna's father said with smile.

Yuna nodded. "Yeah, I will." After ahe said that, he dove away leaving the two young girls alone at home. Yuna sighed and then brought Kirika in and closed the door behind her.

Kirika kept quiet as she read the thoughts in Yuna's mind...why did she have to hear these kind of thoughts from her ever so randomly. She blushed deeply, trying not to make a face as she "accidentally" tuned in again.

//Her skin really is soft… wonder if she notices when I brush against her…//

Kirika shifted in the wheelchair and cleared her throat loudly.

Yuna blinked. "Something wrong?"

"Nope. All good. Just... tired." Kirika lied smoothly, turning her gaze away and willing herself not to focus on the ambient buzz of Yuna's emotions. It was warm, caring... but also tangled in deeper feelings that Kirika hadn't been prepared to deal with.

She rolled herself slightly forward to distract from the silence. "So, where's my room?"

Yuna smiled. "You're staying in my room dummy. We are both girls so we can sleep together."

"....Yuna."

"Yes?"

"Yuna Did three months being alone without me really turn you into a perv?."

Yuna rolled her eyes and patted Kirika's head. "No I'm not, just a bit strange seeing you here again, talking to me instead of laying on a hospital bed with no response."

Kirika smiled. "Oh yeah, you do visit me a lot, I really owe you huh."

Yuna entered the room with the wheelchaired Kirika. "Yeah you do, so get better and let's do some things together."

Kirika nodded faintly, her smile softening. "Yeah… I'd like that."

The room was cozy—soft lavender curtains fluttered near the window, and the scent of fresh linen and faint cherry blossom incense lingered in the air. Yuna's room was a mix of neatly arranged bookshelves, anime figures, and a corkboard covered in case notes and news clippings—mostly related to the explosion. Kirika's eyes lingered on it for a moment before Yuna noticed and casually stood in front of it.

"Forget that," Yuna said quickly. "We're focusing on recovery now, not detective work."

Kirika raised an eyebrow but didn't push. Her instincts—and something else, something buried deep inside—told her she'd need to look at that board eventually. But not now.

Yuna helped her onto the bed, arranging the pillows and blankets. Kirika tried to hide her discomfort at being helped so much. Even though she was healing quickly, her muscles still felt foreign, stiff in a way she didn't recognize. Like her body had been rebuilt with something… different.

"Want anything to eat?" Yuna asked, already heading for the door.

"No blood, thanks," Kirika mumbled, then instantly froze.

Yuna turned around, one eyebrow raised. "What?"

"Bread!" Kirika said, a little too quickly. "I meant bread! White bread! You know, classic carbs!"

"…Right," Yuna said, suspicious. "I'll bring something up."

As the door closed behind her, Kirika let out a long breath and leaned back against the pillows. The silence in the room felt heavy—not oppressive, but watchful. Like something was waiting.

She glanced at the mirror across the room. From this angle, she could barely see her reflection—but her eyes caught the shimmer of red in them. Faint. Flickering. Like an ember. Still there. And her hair, it seemed to be turning into a lighter shade, it looked a bit like a faded blue that cannot be observed unless you really looked closely.

And the fact she suddenly said 'No Blood'. She rubbed her face in embarrassment and groaned. And there was also the occasion of hearing thoughts and hearing Yuna's thoughts...yeah, Finding out Yuna had a thing for her was also something she didn't expect.

Did staying in a coma for three months really affect her that much...well Kirika is not rejecting it, so it is fine.....maybe.

Kirika really wanted to tell Yuna about what is happening to her but she is scared. Maybe she will tell her by the end of the week when she is ready. "Ugh, I am the one who wanted to live. I guess this is the price for living."

---

In the kitchen Yuna was preparing a sandwich with a few cut fruits for Kirika. "What did she mean by no blood."

Yina didn't understand, Kirika was acting weird or maybe she is overreacting, Kirika probably saw a lot of blood in that incident before entering a coma so she might have definitely developed a deep trauma for that. Thinking this, Yuna's heart fluttered. "Whoever did this, I will get to the bottom of this."

She said in a quiet tone that carried a dark intent in it. After she was done preparing lunch...it wasn't really lunch as it was just a sandwich with some fruits by the side.

She got distracted and didn't making but Kirika did say she wanted white bread and she made a sandwich instead.

Yuna waled upstairs to her room and opened the door, Kirika was staring at the ceiling seeming lyost in thought.

//She must have really been traumatised by the incident, she seems more distant//

Hearing her thoughts m, Kirika turned to her, Yuna smiled as she saw her gazing her way. She walked towards the bed and sat on the edges near her. She helped her sit up. "OK then, let me feed you."

Kirika looked at her with a sad smile. "Yuna, you really don't have to do that though."

Yuna pouted slightly. "Don't start. You're still recovering, and besides, I want to do this. Just let me take care of you for now, alright?"

Kirika stared at her for a moment, emotions stirring like ripples beneath the surface. Guilt. Gratitude. Something more fragile she couldn't name. Slowly, she gave a small nod. "...Alright."

Yuna smiled warmly and picked up half of the sandwich, holding it toward Kirika's mouth. "Say 'ahhh'."

"You're enjoying this too much," Kirika muttered, but she complied, taking a bite. It was plain, but warm, and somehow comforting.

Yuna continued feeding her in silence, though her thoughts still echoed quietly in Kirika's mind.

//She really looks beautiful when she smiles like that… I missed her so much.//

Kirika's cheeks turned red again, and she quickly looked away, pretending to be distracted by the curtain fluttering near the window. "You're not very subtle, you know."

Yuna blinked. "What did I do now?"

"...Nothing. Never mind." Kirika sighed.

After finishing the light meal, Yuna set the plate down and brushed crumbs from Kirika's lap. The moment was soft, unhurried, but Kirika could feel the weight of unspoken things between them. She bit her lower lip.
