“His Grace simply cannot bear to be separated from you, even for a single moment,” Marguerite remarked. “After all, he’s scarcely spent time at the castle since he became a cadet at the Royal Military Academy.”
Slightly disappointed that Chloe simply responded with a faint smile, Marguerite swiftly changed the topic. “By the way, my lady, why has Gilles resigned? He is one of the most courteous servants we have.”
“What do you mean?” Chloe’s expression instantly hardened, causing Marguerite to widen her eyes in alarm.
“Were you not aware?”
“Gilles is leaving?”
“He told Paul just the other day about his intention to leave. Despite his lordship’s assurance that he would overlook the incident mentioned during the trial, it seems Gilles felt uneasy about remaining here. I had assumed you would be informed, my lady.”
“Do you know when he is leaving, Marguerite?”
