Chapter 1 - Chapter 1: Sign The Papers!!

Slap!!!!!

"You will sign those papers, Rayna. Whether you like it or not!"

"No! I will not sign it! I see what you did there, Father, so you have always wanted Mom's money. Was that why you got married to her?!" The girl held her burning cheek as she should angrily.

"Don't talk nonsense, Rayna. You know that's not true, do you want your mother's hard work in the company to go in vain?!"

Rayna laughed hysterically.

"Calm down, honey. Don't be too harsh on her." A woman came forward, patting the man on his back.

"Yes, calm down, dad. I'm sure sister has her reasons for not signing it." A young girl spoke up.

Rayna looked at the trio and couldn't help but scoff inwardly. She didn't know when her father had changed so much. Ohh! She knew it was when he brought another woman into their house after the death of her mother.

The woman was her father's second wife, Lily, and also her stepmother. She was everything her mother was not: mean, haughty, and all the negative attributes you could think about.

Lily never treated her like a human, even the maids in the house were better than her. She had tried to tell her father everything Lily was doing to her, but he would brush it off, saying she was naughty, and that was why Lily punished her.

Starving her for days? Cleaning the entire mansion which even the maids in the mansion could not cover in one day. A servant to her daughter? Was all because she was being naughty? She could only do as she was told because she wanted to finish her education and get a good job to take care of herself and her brother.

Even though she was already an adult, by the time Lily and her daughter came into the house, she could only do as she was told. She would try to avoid them as much as possible by staying at the university hostel.

Haa! Yes! Her daughter, the icing on the cake, Samantha Dawson. Even though she was older than the girl by three years, she did everything for her, she was literally her maid. Now that she calculated it, her father had cheated on her mother.

Her dad never saw anything wrong with this and only asked what was wrong with helping one's family?

Helping family my ass!!

She looked at the trio and thought that they, indeed, made a good family.

"What good reason is there for her not to sign it?! I am running out of time here, to hell with her reasons!" Her father glared at her angrily, "I know what to do."

William walked to the table and grabbed his phone. He pressed something on it before placing it to his ears.

Rayna had a bad feeling about this.

"Hello. Yes, Doctor Jack, I want you to put a hold on Liam's treatment."

Rayna stood, shocked at what she heard. His own son, he would do that to his own son? Just because of some properties? Wah!

Everything inside Rayna broke as she stared at her father in disbelief.

William dropped his phone and looked at his daughter, "If you don't sign that paper..." He left his words hanging and then strode out of the room.

Lily made sure William was gone before bursting into laughter. Her daughter also joined her.

"See where your stubbornness has gotten you. Just sign the damn papers and nobody would get hurt." Lily laughed again.

"But mom, she wouldn't be Rayna if she wasn't stubborn, right?" Samantha said with a smile.

"Right right. Almost forgot." Lily answered and then walked out of the room.

"Sign the papers, Rayna and your brother will be fine," Samantha added and walked away.

Rayna sank to the floor and started crying. She hated her life; she hated her mother for leaving her and her brother at the mercy of another woman.

At the hospital...

Liam could not believe what he heard from his father. He woke up a few moments ago, miraculously.

Five years ago, his sister had called him and said their mother was in the hospital fighting for her life. He wasn't in the country at that time as he was pursuing his master's in another country.

He heard that and immediately flew over, but on his way to the hospital, a large truck rammed into his car, and ever since, he had been in a coma. He didn't even get to see his mother before she died.

Now hearing this from his father shocked him greatly.

Earlier...

The doctor had come inside his hospital room to check on him.

"You are awake. Thank goodness, I'm sure your sister and father will be happy to hear. You know, Rayna came here every day to stay with you and hoped you would wake up soon, and finally, you are awake." Doctor Jack said happily.

"Let me call your father and Inform him." Doctor Jack said as he brought out his phone to make the call but before he could do that, the phone started ringing. "Ohh, look who's calling. It's your dad, I'll put it on speaker."

Liam nodded with a smile.

"I was just..."

"Doctor Jack, put a hold on Liam's treatment." Liam's father said through the phone, interrupting what Doctor Jack was about to say.

Doctor Jack froze for a moment and so did Liam.

"What do you mean by that, Mr. Dawson?" Doctor Jack asked.

"He is not responding to any treatment and that is just wasting money. I can't afford any money to be wasted right now."

"But, he will die if I stop his treatment. I can't..."

"Just do as I say, Jack." William interrupted and ended the call.

Liam sat still and didn't say a word.

"Even if you hadn't woken up, I would not have stopped your treatment, Liam." Jack said to clear the air."

"I know, Jack. I trust you not to do that." Liam said emotionlessly.

"Can I get water?"

"Of course, I'll get it for you." Jack said and walked to the other side of the room where the dispenser was.

"Please do not tell anyone that I am awake." Liam said after he drank the water.

"What about your sister? She should at least know she has been coming here, and every time, she would ask if there was any improvement about you, but she was disappointed every time. She would be very happy to know you are awake." Jack said.

Whenever Rayna came to visit, she would ask if her brother improved, but the answer was always negative. He always pitied her and didn't like it whenever he saw her disappointed, but he could do nothing and only hoped for Liam to wake up.

"You have to let her know, Liam. And then you can tell her that you don't want anyone to know you are awake yet."

"Alright. You can give her a call tomorrow then." Liam agreed.

"Okay. Get some rest. I'll ask a trusted nurse to come attend to you." Jack said and went out of the room.

Liam closed his eyes immediately, and Jack went out. The voice of his father still ringing in his ears. His father wanted him dead? So how was his sister doing then? He could only hope she was fine.

He remembered his mom and tears strolled down his cheeks. He didn't even get to see her. Why did you leave mother? You left your children, it's not fair.

Liam heard the hospital room open and thought that it was the nurse who Jack said he would send.

"I don't need anything for now, I'll call you when I need anything." He said without opening his eyes.

He heard no response and thought the nurse had left until he heard a soft voice behind him.

"Li?"

Liam froze. The only person who called him that was...
