Chapter 18 - Chapter Eighteen

Lana's POV

"Mopping these floors is slowly becoming more and more difficult to do." Recently, customers have started using the VIP restroom for a lot of disgusting activities and I know that my boss is very much aware of what is happening but of course, he won't say anything about it because these customers pay more.

"Maybe it's time to quit and find another job to add so I can stop working in this very disgusting place and finally have my peace. Every nook and cranny has condoms it's almost nauseating," I picked up my bucket and started disinfecting the area.

"I should resign or something, drop this job because I have no idea if I can do this anymore honestly." I held my nose and closed the restroom.

"Now it's time to start serving customers," I take a deep breath and go into the kitchen to switch my uniform to the kitchen staff apron.

"What would you like to have today?" I began taking orders from table to table and then began proper serving. By the time I had completed six rounds of taking orders, my shift was up.

"It's 8:00 pm already?" Today ran by quickly. It was a Saturday and I would have been looking forward to getting a full body massage but of course I had no money for such expectations so "I guess we'll just settle for sleep instead."

"I've completed my shift now," my supervisor barely raised his face to acknowledge my comment but I did see him scribble down my name and that was more than enough for me.

"Finally!" I get to have a me time after so much that took place recently. I boarded the bus and was pretty content with how today went, and now I'm on my way home.

"First thing on my list would be to take a proper shower, I haven't had that in ages. I mean it's not to say I don't shower, I just haven't taken the extra care to fully wash myself like an actual bath." Secretly wondered how Lucien went down on me and flashbacks clouded my mind.

What offer was he proposing to me? Maybe I should quit my job at that disgusting place and work full time at the Three Pigeons like he said. But would that be enough to keep my mom's hospital bills paid? I don't know anymore man, but first I need to go see my mom then I'll head home and relax.

The ride on the bus wasn't bumpy or uncomfortable at all, it was so smooth, given the right circumstances, I would fall asleep but of course I wouldn't try that, there are a lot of creeps and I can't be certain that the driver isn't one, or even the men in this bus.

My mom was staying at the City Hospital. Every time I think about it, I feel a sense of pride for making sure that she stayed at the best hospital in the city. As long as she gets the best care and stays with me, I'll keep doing all that I can to make sure that I do not lose her.

"When will you wake up mom, please wake up," I felt a slight sting inside my heart and I could feel a full meltdown coming.

"Not here, Lana, get home first and then you can bawl your eyes out as much as you want." I kept saying that to myself so I wouldn't start crying on the bus.

We finally got to my destination and I paid. The feeling of fresh air hitting my face was just what I needed to squeeze in my emotions and I suddenly felt better.

Approaching the hospital doors, I became apprehensive. Every time I showed up here, something always came up; either my mom's bill spiked up or she's not responding to their facilities or they had to move her to another center. I said a silent prayer before entering the hospital.

"Good evening Miss Lana," the security guard greeted me and I smiled, "Good evening Lois, nice to see you again." He was always so warm and welcoming, I low-key looked forward to seeing him every time I came to check up on my mom, it somehow helps me with my anxiety.

"The pleasure is always mine, Miss Lana, I hope today is much different from the last visit," I could tell from the look on his face that he truly meant it but I could also tell that he knew there wasn't much hope too but either way, it felt nice knowing someone cares about me. "Thank you so much Lois, you have no idea how much I appreciate your kind words."

I met the woman at the reception and she already knew who I was. "Lana Hart, your mom is in room 404, please do well not to disturb her and make sure to see the doctor before you leave, there's a new update on your mom's health," she said curtly and I smiled and made my way to the elevator.

Room 404 was on the 5th floor. As the elevator was slowly approaching the 5th floor, I became more and more tense. It finally opened.

"You can do this Lana", I headed straight for the room and I saw her; my mother, "hold your tears" it was the only thing I could do. The one mantra I kept chanting to myself every time I walked in here, I swore that the only time I was going to cry would be the day my mom was finally free to go home with me.

I stared at her, the way she looked so peaceful made my heart hurt, why was she sleeping so peacefully while I was here all alone? "Wake up mom, please wake up, I'm all alone here. So much has happened and I have nobody to talk to, nobody to care for me and I miss you so much mom, I miss you so very much."

I couldn't hold the tears back and I just let them flow. I sat close to her and rested my head near her form and bawled my eyes out.

The only sound in the room was that of the machine and my sobs. I ran my fingers through her hair as the tears ran down my cheeks, "I know you can hear me mom, I can't wait to tell you about how life has been without you, when you wake up, we'll do everything we used to do before, please wake up soon or I'm not going to get married like you always wanted me to."

At that moment, I truly felt alone and I had never been so afraid until now but I had no other choice than to toughen up and keep moving, it was time to go.

"I'll be back again to see you mom, please wake up soon, your daughter loves and misses you a whole lot." I sobbed painfully. It felt like my heart was falling out of my chest. I got up, took one more look at my mom and left, I didn't want to see the doctor, I didn't want to see anyone, I was so tired. I got to my place around 9:00 pm and the first sight I saw sent cold shivers down my spine. Someone had broken into my apartment.
