Chapter 18: Becoming a Master (4)
“Good decision,” Apollonia nodded, seemingly satisfied. She still intended to kill Uriel if he refused to swear loyalty, but she didn’t threaten him with that.
The sorcerer made eye contact with each of them before beginning to cast a spell while drawing intricate patterns on the floor with his staff.
Even though there was nothing on the staff, faint trails of light appeared wherever he drew. The other four watched in silence as the sorcerer concentrated, beads of sweat forming on his forehead. When he finished, he motioned for Uriel to stand on the complex pattern and touched the tattoo on the back of his neck with his staff.
Uriel cried out as a bright red light emanated from the tattoo and dropped to one knee. The sorcerer pushed Uriel’s hand away when he tried to touch the tattoo.
“The key,” he demanded from Apollonia, regulating his breathing.
