At this point in time, the name Heavenly Poison Woman was entirely unknown on the Dou Qi Continent. But in Xiao Yan's previous life, she was a figure so fearsome that her name alone was enough to terrify countless people. Her temperament was unstable, her actions ruthless, and her methods brutal. Once, in a fit of fury, she had slaughtered an entire super empire. No one survived—neither humans nor magical beasts.
During his travels in his past life, Xiao Yan had once passed through the Cloud Empire and briefly crossed paths with her. Even then, she had already honed her poison arts to an unparalleled level. Her mastery was so formidable that even Dou Zong-level experts steered clear of her. Though their encounter was brief and ended without a clear victor, it had left an unforgettable impression on him.
By the time they crossed paths again, she had already risen to the rank of a Heaven Venerable within the Soul Hall, while Xiao Yan had earned the title of Demonflame Sovereign across Central Plains. Their opposing affiliations made conflict inevitable, and over time, the two had fought on several occasions—each duel resulting in mixed outcomes.
Due to their similar strength and youthful fame, some curious onlookers began referring to them as fated rivals. A succinct phrase came to represent their terrifying reputations: "Where the Poison Woman treads, all life perishes. Where Demonflame appears, no ghost remains."
Unfortunately, this legendary rivalry never saw a true resolution. The Calamity Poison Body method the Soul Hall had bestowed upon her was incomplete. Although temporarily suppressed, it eventually erupted. Upon her death, the venomous miasma that burst from her body rendered a region spanning thousands of kilometers into a lifeless death zone—proof of how terrifying her poison truly was.
Xiao Yan never expected that such a dreadful woman from his past life would now appear before him in such a pitiful and desperate state.
Perhaps it was because she had run too long without rest, or perhaps because she had been distracted for a split second—just as the magical beast chasing her was about to pounce, the young girl stumbled over a rock and nearly fell.
But before she could hit the ground, Xiao Yan appeared in front of her like a shadow. With a swift movement of his arm, he caught her, then gently leaped to the side, dodging the deadly strike meant for her.
"You…" The girl's face was still pale with fear, her breath uneven. Before she could speak, Xiao Yan gently placed her down on a boulder, turned away, and reached for his weapon—the massive black greatsword he had named Xuan Heavy Ruler. Without hesitation, he charged at the incoming magical beast.
"ROAR!" The beast, furious at having its prey snatched away, let out a thunderous roar and lunged again with renewed fury.
In the next moment, one small figure and one massive beast clashed fiercely. The dark ruler swept down with brutal force, smashing directly onto the creature's skull. The sheer impact hurled the beast backward. Its heavy body slammed into the earth, sending rubble flying in all directions.
The little girl stared wide-eyed. That creature might've been slow, but it was incredibly strong—an elite among Tier 2 magical beasts. And yet, this boy who looked younger than her had just overpowered it in raw strength. Was this a dream?
"A Crimson Flame Demon Bear, huh? Perfect. I've been meaning to test my recent progress on something like you." Xiao Yan recognized the beast with a single glance.
It was a fire-type magical beast known for its brute strength. Though only Tier 2, its physical power could threaten even a Da Dou Shi. Its only drawback was its terrible speed—slower than some Tier 1 magical beasts. Otherwise, it wouldn't have chased the girl for so long without catching her.
Meanwhile, the stunned bear struggled back to its feet. Its gaze locked on the boy who had struck it. With another roar, it charged again. Had it possessed true intelligence, it might have turned and fled after sensing the boy's strength. Unfortunately, its instincts ruled its actions, and it barreled forward like a beast blinded by rage.
The Crimson Flame Demon Bear pounded its forepaws against the earth, causing the ground to tremble. Its crimson fur shimmered with light as blazing energy gathered before it. Then, with a deafening roar, a massive fireball materialized—its size easily double that of Xiao Yan's body. This was the bear's innate technique, equivalent to a full-force strike from a Five-Star Dou Shi.
Xiao Yan didn't blink. As the fireball rushed toward him, he sneered, raised the heavy ruler with both hands, and cleaved the fireball in half. Flames burst outward like a shattered meteor before fading into the wind.
Right afterward, he clenched his fist. A dark veil of Dou Qi formed around his body—a thin, eerie armor of energy. Wisps of black flame burned silently on its surface, making him look like a demon cloaked in smoke and fire.
"That's… a Dou Qi Veil?" the girl murmured, stunned once more. A Dou Qi Veil was a mark of a true Dou Shi—elite among elites in any mercenary corps. Yet this boy, who didn't even look older than her, had already become one?
Even the Crimson Flame Demon Bear began to falter. Though it couldn't understand what a Dou Qi Veil was, its instincts screamed that the black flames swirling around the boy were something to be feared. That primal fear—etched into its bloodline—overpowered its bloodlust. It began to slowly retreat.
"Trying to run now? Isn't it a little too late?" Xiao Yan sneered. He stomped the ground hard. With a deep thud, he shot forward, overtaking the beast in an instant.
Before the demon bear could react, the heavy ruler slammed into its body once more, sending it flying again. Xiao Yan followed immediately, using Burst Step to accelerate. This time, he had already stowed the ruler. His movements were faster—far faster.
With a clenched fist brimming with explosive force, he struck the bear's chest directly. The impact crushed the creature's ribcage with a sickening crunch. A hidden pulse of internal strength detonated inside its body, snuffing out the beast's life in an instant.
The crimson light in the bear's eyes faded. Its giant body collapsed heavily onto the earth, unmoving.
The girl, still sitting on the rock, watched in stunned silence. She had been ready to face death only moments ago. Now, the very magical beast that had driven her into desperation had been slain—by a boy younger than her.
Xiao Yan slowly turned around and walked back, casually brushing dust from his sleeves.
"This era's Heavenly Poison Woman… really does look nothing like she will in the future," he muttered inwardly as he glanced at the girl. 'Still, fate really knows how to play its tricks.'
