I never thought I'd resume training, just two days after the affinity test. Didn't even enough time to mentally prepare myself to go to school with kids.
It's certainly a good thing for me though, because I want to master this magic of a thing as soon as possible.
Right now, I'm walking on foot, heading to to the training center.
It's just three buildings away from the main residence of the family.
My neck turns slowly as I cast another glance at the compound.
I hadn't really thought about it before, but this compound is really big. It's not even a compound, it's more like an estate with many buildings.
My pace quickens with anticipation.
The air is fresh– making me feel good.
"Hooo.. alright."
I exhale slowly.
The reason I'm headed to the training center is simple. The patriarch declared that I must resume training immediately.
Although, I'm not sure, but I choose to believe that it's because of the light show my affinity detection caused.
It's been discovered that I have an affinity with all four elements. It's a never-before-seen occurrence.
This means that, I have the potential to proficiently control all four elements. And the strange thing– my affinity with all the elements is high. Really really high.
"Well, I'm excited. I can't wait to unbox what's in store for me."
Finally, I arrive at the training center.
My gaze ascends, scanning the building.
It's big, tall, made with stone and painted with red pai– typical Flameworths.
I have no idea why the Flameworths are obsessed with the color red.
A large amount of people are around the premise of the training center's environment. Going in and out.
There are mostly children. Some my age, some older than me, and teenagers too. But I classify teenagers as kids too.
They're all dressed in blue uniforms, including me. Now, I know where those kids I often saw with blue uniforms come from.
Some of the kids are being dropped off by their guardians/parents. Some noble kids are dropped off with horse-drawn carriages.
Swiftly, I make my way into the center with long strides.
My destination is class two. A class for kids who started their training after last year's affinity test.
The reason I'm headed there is because apparently, Alexander thinks that I'm too much of a genius to learn with kids my age.
As I walk past the class one block, I see that it's empty. Trainees who are supposed to be the new batch of scouted fire affinity kids are resuming next week.
The training lasts for about ten years. Which means, there are ten different classes.
Nobles and commoners are all trained together. But when the nobles graduate from class ten, they head to the imperial academy at the Empire's capital to further their education, graduate with a mage certificate and undergo the Empire's pilgrimage to become recognized as official mages.
Kids who aren't nobles can't get into the academy. They are raised by the family as apprentice mages after class ten.
They'll carry out missions from the empire for about ten years and slowly gather merit before obtaining a mage certificate from the empire and becoming true, recognized mages.
Truly, being a commoner in this world is hard...
Class two block.. I'm here now. Finally.
As I step inside, the mildly dusty atmosphere greets my nose first.
There are long rolls of wooden desks that can contain three people each. About fifty desks are present on each row.
There's an air of mischievousness around the classroom. And I can feel the gazes of the kids on me. There're about ten kids or so.
Great. Going to school with five-year-old kids. Can my life get any better?
I don't even give them a glance. And I walk toward an empty seat of the first desk on the third row. It's perfect, I can see the white, wide and lengthy board at the front of the classroom clearly.
"Hey Jonah, isn't that Young Master James's brother? The illegitimate bastard who caused a stir during his affinity detection test?"
"Yeah, that's him."
Secretive whispers and gossips about me. It's something I'm used to. This time it's coming from some kids behind me.
"I say we go greet him, what do you think?"
"No. Are you a fool? He's a Flameworth, do you want to die that much? A Flameworth is still a Flameworth no matter what. And the fact that he has survived this long and even skipped one class should say something about his capabilities."
"O-oh, you're right! I almost messed up big time haha"
"Let's just avoid him"
"Great idea"
A dry smile form on my lips.
My head swings from left to right, shaking in disappointment.
Smart brats. Would have used you guys to make an example, and avoid the troublesome inevitable torments of these noble kids. After all, I hate beating up children.
They successfully dodged the 'bully meets new kid. New kid whoops their ass' trope. I respect them for that.
That kid Jonas.. he's a smart one.
Because I decided not to cast a single glance at them, I don't know what he looks like.
My forehead rests on the desk as I sigh.
Is it because I came as early as 6:30? Other kids just started arriving, and it's 9:00. We're still waiting for the first instructor to show up.
I shouldn't have come so early. I've done nothing but sit my ass down alone for over 3 hours!
And finally...
The instructor slams the door to the wall and walks Inside like they did nothing wrong.
But wait... are they going to teach 'class two' lessons? Even when I don't know the basics or anything yet?
I don't even know how to use mana! No, let me calm down, maybe they'll make a special exception for m-
"Continuing from where we stopped yesterday.."
Fuck.
