Chapter 14 - Nexus (1)

Martin and Stephen were currently on their way towards the place where the secret organization hid in plain sight.

To Martin's surprise, it wasn't located in the middle of nowhere. In fact, they were in the middle of the city.

They were within walking distance of the place from the cafe.

With Martin insisting they get their steps in for health's sake, the two ditched the car and walked instead

"So… Every player who logged in for the first time will meet a god that will explain to them about this whole secret organization and give them a unique skill?"

Stephen nodded, his mouth kept on munching the croissant that he bought to go from the cafe.

"Yes. As players, we were given a unique skill from the god of Nostravia for coming into their world.

I guess it's so that we won't be left behind by the people who have been leveling up and picking jobs ever since they were little.

And they also recommended that we talk to the player who invited us to play the game to help us join the organization first.

They explained a little about how we can change the coins in Nostravia into Earth's currency, but they told us to speak to our referrer to get the details."

Martin forced a smile, his teeth grinding against each other as he remembered his own experience meeting a god of Nostravia.

And that made him wonder, 'How was Stephen's first experience after logging into the game?'

"What kind of god welcomed you?"

Stephen stopped moving his feet, his hand stopped in place as a smile, one that Martin would categorize as creepy, bloomed on Stephen's face.

"Even when I can't recall her face, I just know that she is the most beautiful, gorgeous, mature woman I have ever spoken to in my entire life…

I still dreamt about her on some nights, even if it was a year ago when I met her…"

Recalling Stephen's taste in those fantasy games he talked about, a light bulb turned on in Martin's head.

"You mean she was an older woman with a huge-"

"No, sir! What I liked about her is her personality! Don't defile the earth goddess like that!"

Martin smirked, "Sure, I bet you can't remember her face because of her huge personality."

Stephen squinted his eyes and thrust an index finger at Martin's arm.

"Wha-Agh!"

Martin's whole body jolted, a flash of electricity ran from Stephen's finger to him. It didn't hurt, but it did a good job of shocking him.

"That's what you get for defiling my goddess!" Stephen then walked a couple of steps ahead, leaving Martin to shake off the excess electricity he felt in his body.

'Okay, this kid might be religious in a different way, better not start a crusade against myself.'

With Stephen's goddess sanctity in mind, the two continued talking until they finally arrived.

"This is where the organization is? This place?"

Stephen nodded as he led Martin forward, the staff opened the door as they walked past them.

"Yep, this place is run by them.

What do you think? You are starting to be convinced that I actually didn't invite you to join some shady cult, did you?"

The place where the secret organization was located was none other than the famous five-star hotel in the middle of the city.

Everybody from young to old knew about the hotel. From beggars to businessmen, they all had heard of the hotel at least once in their lives.

It was an international hotel chain after all.

Martin gulped and looked around the place.

He had been here a couple of times for business purposes, but he certainly didn't know before that a secret organization ran the hotel itself.

'Well yea dumbass, it's a secret organization.' Martin kicked himself in the foot.

Stephen then walked up to the receptionist and spoke, "I have a room booked under the name of Steph."

While he said that, Stephen pulled out a card from his wallet.

"I also have a membership card."

The receptionist maintained a perfect corporate smile as he took notice of the card and passed it through a scanner.

Confirming his card was real, the receptionist returned the membership card and gave Stephen a room card.

"Please enjoy your visit."

Martin could only applaud the receptionist who got that years of hospitality experience aura exuding from him as he followed Stephen to the hotel's lift.

They then arrived at the corner room on the 4th floor, and Stephen opened the room.

The inside of the room was just like any other hotel room.

But instead of a window that overlooked the city, there was a huge walk-in closet.

Stephen then pulled out his membership card once more and placed it on the side wall of the walk-in closet.

Martin blinked his eyes several times in surprise when he saw the wall at the end of the closet begin turning into particles of light in real time.

'A magic door…? Yup, Stephen is not inviting me to join a shady cult.'

An elevator door revealed itself, and Stephen clicked the only button, which was an arrow pointing downward.

After waiting for a while, the two got into the elevator as it moved deep underground.

When the elevator door opened once more, Martin could only take in a deep breath and stood still for a while before exclaiming, "Damn…"

The scene in front of him was something that was taken straight out of a fantasy anime.

Similar to the adventurer's guild in Nostravia, but far fancier, the whole room seemed to be made out of carved wood and stone.

There were other people, tens of them, wearing casual outfits on Earth walking around the place and talking to each other.

However, there were also people, including another receptionist who stood at the far end of the room, who wore medieval-style outfits similar to those in Nostravia.

Magical screens made out of holograms filled the walls, and several doors also stood sparsely on the sides of the room.

Pulling Martin out of his daze, Stephen spoke, "Welcome to Nexus, sir."
