Chapter 17: Lin Ze: Sister Yue Ye, you are so beautiful!

Two hours later.

Xiao Yun finally reached the entrance of the Demon Emperor Palace after asking for directions.

"Is this the Demon Emperor Palace? It's too magnificent!"

Looking at the towering palace before her, even Lin Ze—who had mentally prepared himself—was taken aback.

The Demon Emperor Palace wasn't just tall. Its grounds were more than ten times larger than the Love Demon Palace.

The dazzling array of embedded gemstones sparkled as if wealth was meaningless here.

Most striking of all were the two black dragons sculpted from black jade on the main hall's walls—they looked like they might spring to life, exuding an overwhelming aura.

After a short moment of awe, Xiao Yun prepared to lead Lin Ze inside.

But just as they approached the gate, two members of the Demon Emperor Army—dressed in imposing black armor—stepped forward to block their path.

"Please show your passes."

Xiao Yun quickly reached into her robes, only to fumble around without success. After a while, she looked panicked.

"Ah!"

"It's over, Master Lin Ze! I lost the token Lord Sidi gave me!"

"When that demon slapped it away, I must have left without picking it up..."

Tears welled in her eyes as she looked at Lin Ze.

"Ah~, then we have to go back to find it..." Lin Ze sighed, then added with a hint of teasing, "Xiao Yun, you're always calling me careless—but look at you!"

"I really won't be able to find it now if I go back. We'd better try to contact Lord Sidi..." Xiao Yun said helplessly.

Just when both were at a loss, a familiar voice spoke up behind them.

"Are you looking for this?"

They turned around instinctively—only to see the masked girl from earlier, holding the very token Xiao Yun had lost.

"Why are you following us?" Xiao Yun asked, clearly unhappy.

Yue Ye didn't answer. She simply tossed the token back to Xiao Yun and walked past them, showing her own token to the guards as she entered.

Seeing that, Xiao Yun blushed.

She realized she had misunderstood her.

After presenting the token, she entered the palace with Lin Ze.

Xiao Yun wanted to thank her, but Yue Ye simply said, "No need to thank me. I just did what I felt like doing."

"There were too many people outside earlier, so I couldn't say much. Let me introduce myself properly. My name is Yue Ye, and I'm a human-demon hybrid from the Moon Demon Clan, just like you. By the way..."

Before Xiao Yun could respond to that shock, Yue Ye turned to Lin Ze. She gently pulled down her veil, revealing a breathtakingly beautiful face. Then, in a tone that sounded like coaxing a child, she said:

"Little brother, Leng Xiao calls me sister. Shouldn't you call me sister too?"

"Ah!" Lin Ze looked at Yue Ye in surprise. He hadn't expected her to be Leng Xiao's sister.

And… she really was beautiful.

Subconsciously, Lin Ze blurted out, "Sister, you're so beautiful!"

Yue Ye didn't expect him to be so direct and laughed out loud. "No wonder Xiaoxiao likes you so much. You really know how to talk. How about coming with your beautiful sister? You must be here for the demon gathering. Judging by your face, it's your first time, right? Let me show you around, okay?"

Seeing Lin Ze hesitate, Yue Ye chuckled. "What's wrong? You don't trust your sister?"

Lin Ze quickly shook his head.

"No, I can tell Sister has no hostility toward us."

"Master Lin Ze..." Xiao Yun looked at Lin Ze, clearly anxious that he was being 'abducted'. "How can you trust her so easily? What if she tricks us..."

Xiao Yun was surprised to hear that Yue Ye was also a human-demon hybrid—but seeing how easily Lin Ze was won over made her feel a strange sense of crisis.

Yue Ye really was beautiful.

A kind of serene, noble beauty. Even though Xiao Yun was confident in her looks, she still felt inferior in front of Yue Ye.

Lin Ze scratched his head. "But Xiao Yun, you don't know the way to the gathering, right? And I can feel that Sister Yue Ye really has no bad intentions..."

Xiao Yun couldn't argue with that.

She truly didn't know the way...

Seeing that, Yue Ye reached out her slender, crystal-clear hand and gently took Lin Ze's other hand.

"Let's go. I'll explain what this gathering is all about on the way."

Xiao Yun could only follow helplessly.

"Your name is Lin Ze, right? Then I'll call you Brother Lin Ze, like Xiaoxiao does."

Lin Ze nodded. "Sister Yue Ye, since Sister Leng Xiao calls you sister, you must be very close?"

"Of course," Yue Ye replied.

"Then if Sister Leng Xiao tries to fight me later, will you help me stop her?"

"Fight?" Yue Ye raised her eyebrows.

"Yeah, she wasn't too happy when she left last time. I'm afraid she'll try to get back at me."

Yue Ye let out a faint laugh. "I'm afraid I can't help you with that."

"Okay..." Lin Ze replied, visibly disappointed.

Yue Ye was clearly a rational person—she wouldn't make promises she couldn't keep.

"But rather than worry about Xiaoxiao, you should be more concerned about yourself."

Lin Ze blinked. "Me?"

Yue Ye continued, "Do you know why those three demons dared to attack you and Xiao Yun so brazenly in the city?"

"Because of our blood?"

"Correct," Yue Ye nodded. "Human-demon hybrids are not accepted in the demon race. Even I, the daughter of Agares—the second pillar of the Seventy-Two Pillars—can't change that. Despite having the Moon Demon's highest wisdom and talent, I still couldn't inherit my father's title."

She paused and added, "My words may sound harsh, but as the successor of the twelfth pillar, the Love Demon God Sidi—do you truly have the courage to face rejection from the entire council of demons and their successors?"

"Even if Lord Sidi protects you, she's still only the twelfth pillar. The second pillar can't change this fact. How could she?"

Lin Ze stood frozen. He had never thought about this before.

At that moment, both he and Xiao Yun realized that their visit to the Demon City was far from a simple journey.

They had underestimated what it meant to be a human-demon hybrid—and the prejudice they'd face from demons.

They couldn't begin to imagine the storm of judgment Lin Ze was about to walk into.
