Chapter 8 - Roses and Fangs

The first class for House Lunaris was held in the eastern wing of the academy. Crystal walls, marble floors etched with noble crests, and stained glass windows refracting morning magic light. Everything felt cold… and filled with expectation.

Alexa sat at her desk, elegant, hands resting lightly on the table. One by one, Lunaris students entered and picked their seats.

Eiden sat in the back corner, expressionless. Liora Noxwell arrived with floating books orbiting her. Veyla Arcene—the quiet baroness with dark blue hair and gray eyes—stared at Alexa before taking a seat one row behind her.

The magical chime rang softly. And at that moment…

A young woman entered—long jet-black hair, sharp eyes, and a blue robe billowing behind her. A silver-ornamented wand floated at her back.

"I am Lady Miraven Caltris, your lead instructor in High Magic and Noble Etiquette." "In this class, we refine more than power. Social intelligence, too. And trust me… the latter is far deadlier."

Her eyes settled briefly on Alexa. In that glance, she seemed to say:

I know you're different. But don't think you can't fall.

✨ Meanwhile… in the academy garden

During the first break, students gathered in the garden—the social arena of young nobles. Here, reputations were forged… or shattered.

Alexa walked calmly, taking in the lavender-hued flowers and fresh air, when a sharp but feminine voice greeted her.

"If it isn't Lady Zevarelis. Finally thawed and out of her class?"

Alexa turned.

Seraphina Wynhart stood beneath an arch of roses, surrounded by adoring noble students. Her blonde hair shimmered, and her violet eyes gleamed with smugness.

"I thought you'd be in Solaris. But apparently, big names and icy tricks aren't enough," she said with a sweet but venomous smile.

"Or… maybe you're better off hiding. Like snow that never dares touch the sun."

Alexa's smile remained serene.

"Funny. I actually thought you suited Lunaris better, Seraphina."

Seraphina frowned. "Oh? Why's that?"

"Because you only shine… when no other star is in the sky."

A few nobles nearby held their breath. Seraphina's smile cracked slightly. But before she could retaliate, the second chime rang—marking the next magic session.

Alexa walked away, leaving Seraphina amidst curious stares.

If this is a social game… then I'll be the unbeatable player.I'm not melting snow.I'm the ice that shapes the crown.
