Chapter 22 - Li Lingtian

This night, Mu Xi suffered from insomnia.

She was usually someone who could fall asleep the moment her head touched the pillow. But tonight, she kept tossing and turning, unable to rest.

For some reason, Jiang Chen's figure and the things he said earlier kept replaying in her mind. It was all his fault—he was the chief culprit behind her insomnia tonight.

"Hmph, acting all smug. So what if he's a little capable? What's so amazing about that?"

Mu Xi muttered in frustration, then instinctively lowered her gaze to her chest, staring at the proud curves that rose and fell with each breath.

"Not big enough? Why would he look down on me?"

"Ugh, Mu Xi, what are you even thinking?" she scolded herself. "Is he blind, or am I the one going crazy? He's so arrogant—why should I care what he thinks?"

Just as she was beginning to spiral, she heard faint footsteps from downstairs.

Mu Xi listened carefully—it was Ruifeng talking with Grandpa.

The voices were too faint to make out clearly, but she caught one name: Jiang Chen.

"Grandpa, what's going on?" she asked as she came downstairs.

Ruifeng glanced at the old master, and seeing that he didn't object, explained briefly, "Miss, Jiang Chen called. He's at the police station."

Mu Xi's eyes widened. "That conceited guy? What does he want at the police station—trying to pull some strings?"

Old Master Mu nodded slightly. "Ruifeng, prepare the car. I'll go in person."

Hearing this, both Mu Xi and Ruifeng were surprised.

Mu Xi frowned. "Grandpa, it's just a small matter. Do you really need to go yourself? Can't you just call Uncle Tang at the city bureau? He used to be under your command, didn't he?"

Old Master Mu shook his head. "Xixi, you don't understand. A phone call could fix it, yes, but showing up in person sends a clearer message—it shows where our Mu family stands."

Mu Xi pouted, clearly displeased and somewhat jealous. "Grandpa, it's just a cocky guy. Why do you value him so much?"

"Xixi, don't look down on him. Jiang Chen isn't an ordinary person." The old man's tone grew solemn. "Who knows, he may be the next Li Lingtian."

Mu Xi's heart skipped a beat at that name.

Li Lingtian—the undefeated legend, the peak of Huaxia's ancient martial world, the man who crushed nine great families of Jiangnan and dominated the northern martial circles.

She blinked, still skeptical. "Grandpa, aren't you exaggerating?"

But the old man only smiled. "Maybe I am, maybe I'm not. But if Li Lingtian and Jiang Chen were the same age, I'm not sure who'd come out on top."

"Even you think that highly of him?" Mu Xi murmured.

"I do," Old Master Mu replied firmly. "And you should too. Talent is one thing, but growth comes with time. Give it five, ten, twenty years—Jiang Chen might soar to unimaginable heights."

"Grandpa…"

"I've never misjudged a man in my life, Xixi. Jiang Chen is the real deal. Just you wait."

Mu Xi's thoughts swirled with confusion, doubt, and curiosity. Her grandfather had never praised anyone like this before.

What kind of person is Jiang Chen really?

Old Master Mu turned to Ruifeng and snapped, "Well? Why are you still standing here? Go get the car! We mustn't keep young friend Jiang waiting."

Mu Xi bit her lip, a blush forming on her cheeks. "Grandpa, it's already past midnight. You're not young anymore. I'll go instead with Brother Feng."

Old Master Mu had indeed been planning to pair her up with Jiang Chen. Hearing her volunteer, he smiled.

"Alright. But remember—don't act rashly."

"I know, I know! You've said that like eight times," Mu Xi said, rolling her eyes. "You act like he's your real grandson and I'm just some outsider."

The old man chuckled, stroking his beard. "Well, that depends on whether you can get his name onto our household registry."

"Huh? Register Jiang Chen into the Mu family?" Mu Xi's face turned red. "Grandpa! What are you saying? Aren't you afraid your granddaughter will get snatched away?"

Old Master Mu laughed heartily. "With a talent like him, he's unlikely to marry into another family. More likely, you'll end up joining his Jiang family."

"Grandpa! Say another word and I'll stop talking to you. You're so annoying!"

"Haha, alright, alright. Fate isn't forced—it's decided by the heavens. Ruifeng has the car ready, go on now. Be safe."

"Mhm. Got it."

Mu Xi trotted downstairs, still flushed with embarrassment.

As she walked, her grandfather's words echoed in her mind.

Marrying Jiang Chen? That cocky jerk who loves to mock me?

Has Grandpa lost his mind?

Unbelievable.
