Chapter 2 - Becoming a Wizard

As Bilbo scurried back into the kitchen, Dui sighed in relief and turned to look at the entry with a serious expression.

"Hogwarts Sign-in System? But what does that have to do with Middle-earth? If it's the Hogwarts Sign-in System, shouldn't I have transmigrated to the Harry Potter world? How did I end up in Middle-earth?"

"Could it be that I transmigrated to the wrong place?"

Dui was full of confusion and bewilderment.

He tried asking the system what its purpose was.

But the system remained silent, only the entry continued to float brightly before him, waiting for him to make a decision.

Receiving no response from the system, Dui could only tentatively say, "Sign in?"

The entry flickered, the previous text disappeared, and then a new line of text appeared:

[Sign-in successful! magic talent unlocked! Congratulations on becoming a Wizard!]

The next moment, Dui felt as if his body had opened up to some secret realm; a surge of powerful magic gushed forth from within him, rapidly spreading to his limbs and bones.

"Pfft!"

He vaguely heard an invisible barrier within his body being broken through.

The next second, the magic within his body rushed out.

In an instant, Dui felt his body become light, as if floating without any weight.

Even the tables, chairs, sofas, teapots, and everything else in the entire room floated into the air!

"Oh, my goodness!"

A shocked voice came from the kitchen doorway.

Bilbo Baggins's eyes widened, disbelief etched on his face as he stared at everything before him, the plate in his hand instantly dropping to the floor.

As if startled by Bilbo's commotion, the floating objects suddenly paused, then, as if losing their power, all dropped to the floor.

The room instantly became a mess.

Dui recovered from the magic outburst and looked at the scene he had caused, his face full of apology.

"I'm so sorry, Mr. Baggins, I didn't mean for this to happen, it's all my fault!"

Bilbo barely recovered from his shock, his gaze at Dui becoming fervent and adoring.

"Mr. Du Yier, you're actually a Wizard!"

"That's amazing!"

"I didn't even expect it myself," Dui muttered inwardly.

The rest of the time was spent by the two of them cleaning up the mess.

Although Dui really wanted to use magic to restore everything around him.

But he was currently just a Squib Wizard with magic but no understanding of how to use it.

So he could only clean up bit by bit by hand.

After they finished cleaning, Bilbo prepared two more servings of food.

At the dining table,

Bilbo said with some embarrassment, "Sorry, Mr. Du Yier, I wasn't prepared today, so this is all we have for now. First thing tomorrow morning, I'll go to Hobbiton to buy groceries and prepare our Hobbit's most lavish dinner for you."

Noticing Bilbo's somewhat cautious attitude, Dui smiled and shook his head, comforting him gently:

"Bilbo, I can call you that, right? You don't have to be so formal, you can just call me Du Yier. And I should be thanking you for taking me in, so why can't we be friends?"

Feeling Dui's sincere attitude, Bilbo completely relaxed, and a smile appeared on his face.

The kind Hobbit didn't have many reservations and happily accepted Dui's friendship.

He happily extended his hand,

"It's a pleasure to meet you, Du Yier, my friend!"

Dui's smile was radiant as he reached out and shook his hand.

"It's a pleasure to meet you too, Bilbo, my friend!"

The atmosphere inside Bag End became friendly and warm.

Dui asked Bilbo about the Shire and the areas beyond the Shire.

Bilbo answered everything he knew. Although he had never left the Shire and knew little about the outside world, he enjoyed reading adventure travelogues, so he provided Dui with a lot of useful information.

For example, from the Shire, heading east, there was a main East-West Road that would pass through Brandywine Bridge, the Old Forest, the Barrow-downs, and reach the human town of Bree. Further east lay the endless wilderness, leading directly to the Misty Mountains.

It was said that from Bree Town, heading south, there was also a main North-South Road that would bypass the Misty Mountains and eventually reach the southern human kingdom of Gondor.

Also, the current time was Shire Reckoning 1340, which was Middle-earth Third Age 2940.

This was the year before Bilbo joined the Lonely Mountain expedition.

This meant that soon, this Hobbit before him would embark on his thrilling adventure.

If Dui's thought before becoming a Wizard was to live cautiously.

Then with the Sign-in System, he began to consider whether to join the Lonely Mountain expedition.

After all, the expedition would pass through different places along the way, and even territories inhabited by Elves. If he wanted to sign in at different locations, choosing to join the Lonely Mountain expedition would be a good option.

Late at night, after saying goodnight to Bilbo.

Dui lay on the bed that was a bit small for him; the bedspread could only barely cover his lower body.

However, it was midsummer, so there was no need to worry about catching a cold.

Moonlight streamed through the round window, casting its glow and intermingling with the faint yellow candlelight.

Listening to the chirping of crickets and croaking of frogs outside, Dui's uneasy heart gradually calmed down.

When in Rome, do as the Romans do.

Unexpectedly arriving in this strange yet familiar world, he had no choice but to try his best to become stronger and live well.

Dui cleared his mind, and slowly, his consciousness gradually blurred, eventually falling into a deep sleep.

The next day,

Dui woke up very early.

Listening to the faint snores from the next room, he bent down and tiptoed to the cylindrical living room, opened the round door, and stepped out into the garden.

Facing the gentle breeze and the scent of flowers, he finally took a deep breath.

Hobbit houses were too short; constantly bending over, even if it didn't cause back pain, he was afraid he might get cervical spondylosis.

Bilbo's Bag End was located on the hill in Hobbiton.

From here, the entire scenery of Hobbiton was clearly visible.

The scenery of Hobbiton was beautiful, truly like a fairy-tale town, with lush green grass, abundant flowers, and even the trees and shrubs were very low, as if to accommodate its inhabitants.

Dui was so immersed in such beauty that he even felt an urge to live there permanently.

After appreciating the beautiful scenery, Dui began to consider his tasks for the coming period.

Although he was now a Wizard, he had no wand, which was essential for Wizards, nor had he learned any magic.

Compared to ordinary people, he was not much stronger.

Although as a former "Harry Potter fan," he could rattle off spells like "Wingardium Leviosa," "Expelliarmus," "Petrificus Totalus," and even "Avada Kedavra."

But magic wasn't simply about uttering a spell; it also required an understanding of magic theory, combining it with a wand and casting gestures, as well as mastery of the spell, to successfully unleash magic power.

So, even though Dui recited the spells until his lips were almost raw, there was no reaction whatsoever.

However, Dui did not give up.

He firmly believed that even without a wand and without having learned a single spell, as long as his will was firm, he could still produce magic effects.

Hadn't Harry Potter, before he even started school, made the glass at the zoo disappear out of thin air, allowing the Python to escape, and then trapped his cousin Dudley inside?

Even Neville, who was once considered a Squib by his family, could bounce like a rubber ball and fly a long distance when in danger.

Although these were not conscious spell-casting actions, Dui believed that if he tried hard, he might also be able to cast magic.

So Dui focused his gaze on a stone in the garden, concentrating his will, wanting it to fly up.

But after trying for a long time, even turning his face red, the stone still showed no reaction.

Giving up on the heavier stone, Dui simply chose a leaf as his practice object.

At first, the leaf also showed no reaction.

But as time passed, the leaf moved without wind, slowly floating upwards, swaying under an invisible force.
