Liam's grip on the steering wheel tightened as we pulled out of the parking lot of the warehouse district.
"We need to leave Sterling City," he said, his voice tight with tension. "It'll be the first place they look."
I nodded, still glancing over my shoulder every few seconds. The close call with that shadowy figure had left my nerves shredded. We'd barely made it back to Liam's car in time.
"Where should we go?" I asked, trying to keep the tremor out of my voice.
"I don't know yet. First, we need supplies." He checked his watch. "There's a 24-hour Walmart on the edge of town. We can stop there."
My stomach churned with anxiety as we drove through the empty streets. Every pair of headlights in the rearview mirror made me flinch. Every dark car we passed could be Kael's SUV, waiting to pounce.
