Chapter 4 - Chapter 4

Eyes from the Forgotten

---

Glayvern Town was celebrating.

Colored ribbons floated from balconies, children ran with fruit sticks, and a small festival square was lit with hanging lanterns shaped like moons and birds. The air smelled of roasted nuts and sweet wine.

Kael had never seen anything like it.

Sister Marien walked beside him through the cobbled path, her cloak fluttering lightly in the evening breeze.

> "This is the Springlight Festival," she said. "A local tradition to welcome the second moon's bloom."

Kael tilted his head. "Second moon?"

> "This world has two moons. You've only seen one so far."

He blinked. Another difference. Another sign he didn't belong.

---

They passed stalls filled with sweets and glowing crystals. A few people glanced at them, but no one stopped. Kael felt safe for once just another face in a crowd.

> "You need moments like these," Marien said. "You can't carry your burden all the time."

Kael smiled faintly. "I'm not used to… this. Peace."

> "Then we'll make it a habit," she replied with a rare softness.

---

But peace never lasts.

As they neared the fountain in the center of the square, Kael felt it a presence.

Not hostile.

Not warm either.

But familiar, in a way he couldn't explain.

He turned his head.

And there she was.

Standing across the square beneath a hanging lantern, dressed in silver-gray robes with a veil covering half her face. Her eyes glowed faintly blue, even in the daylight.

She was watching him.

Only him.

> "Sister Marien," Kael whispered.

"Do you… know that woman?"

Marien followed his gaze. "What woman?"

Kael turned back.

She was gone.

---

They searched briefly, but the woman had vanished into the crowd. Marien didn't push the matter. But Kael couldn't shake the chill down his spine.

> "She saw me."

"And she knew something."

---

🌒 Later that night…

Kael lay on his straw bed, the sounds of music and laughter still faint outside.

But in his mind, only silence remained.

And then

A whisper.

> "Kael… is not your name."

He sat up, eyes wide.

Nothing there.

Only the moonlight through the window.

But the voice had felt real like someone had spoken beside his ear.

> "Who are you?"

"What do you mean… it's not my name?"

He remembered the woman's glowing eyes. That voice could've been hers.

---

The next day, he found a note tucked beneath the front door of the Sanctum.

No seal. No name.

Only a sentence:

> "Before the world claims you, remember who you were."

---

Kael stared at it, his hands shaking.

> "This world doesn't just want to control me."

"Someone wants me to remember."

But remember what?

---
