Chapter 8 - Chapter 6.3 - Different Dimension Demon vs Gear Chronicle Part 3

Turn 4 - Ryuki

A long breath filled the air. The wind had quieted. The battlefield, scorched and torn, had become still.

"Your move," Reiji said.

Ryuki touched his deck. His jacket flapped gently in the breeze, revealing cuts and scuffed armor. But his hand didn't waver.

He whispered to himself, "Thanks for holding on, Uluru... Everyone's watching. I can't fall now."

Ruri's PSYqualia flared. She gritted her teeth. "He's planning something... Something big."

Rin's expression turned serious. "The way he's moving... He's not just going to respond. He's about to counterattack."

"Atashi no turn! Draw!" Ryuki gritted his teeth, still feeling the sting from Alexander's gust-infused blade. His clothes were torn, and his body ached from the impact, but his determination shone through. He glanced at his field, the stalwart Chronojet Dragon G and Chronofang Tiger G, both of whom were standing strong despite the intense battle. Then, his eyes fell on the card he had just drawn.

Ryuki stared at the card he drew, and a smile creeping across his face. It was the card he had been hoping for. His strategy was finally coming together.

"From my hand," Ryuki called out, raising his voice so everyone could hear, "I activate the continuous spell, Hand of Midas!" A wave of whispers spread through the crowd as they realized the significance of the spell.

"By discarding one card from my hand or destroying one card on my field, I can get any card I want from my deck!" Ryuki continued, confidently. "But, I won't be able to use it until the end of my next turn."

A tense silence enveloped the arena as Ryuki destroyed Chronojet Dragon G, sending it to the Extra Deck with a simple gesture. A card then shot out of his deck. The crowd gasped in unison. It was a daring move, but Ryuki had a purpose for it.

"You're quite bold, Ryuki, allowing your Chronojet Dragon G to be destroyed like that," Reiji remarked coolly, watching Ryuki's every move.

"Every play I make has a purpose, Reiji," Ryuki replied with a smirk. "And I'm about to show you what that purpose is."

Without wasting another moment, Ryuki continued his next move. "Aside from my Scale 13 Time Maiden of Eternity Uluru, I place my Scale 1 Chronodoze Sheep and set the Pendulum Scale!" Ryuki announced, setting up his next combination.

A bright light filled the arena, and a small, adorable sheep appeared. It was Chronodoze Sheep, peacefully asleep, its body adorned with a soft pink cloth and a ticking clock nestled on its chest. Its horns were unlike those of any ordinary sheep, instead fashioned from gears, and at the center of the horns sat a small, green gem that sparkled with energy.

The crowd erupted in excitement. "Ryuki-sensei's Pendulum!" Tatsuya exclaimed, his voice filled with awe.

"Pendulum! Pendulum! Pendulum!" Futoshi and Ayu chanted in unison, the rest of the audience quickly following suit, their cheers echoing throughout the stadium.

Ryuki's eyes sparkled as he watched his audience react. He raised his hand high. "With this, I can summon multiple monsters from Levels 2 to 12!"

"O guardians of time and gears of fate—Align the axes of the past and future!" Ryuki's voice echoed with strength and conviction. "Shatter the chains of causality and stride towards destiny!"

He spread his arms wide, his excitement building as he summoned his monsters. "Pendulum Summon! Manifest now across time's horizon, my comrades!"

The beams of light split the air like a thunderclap, casting orange and violet rays across the field. Out of the beams, three formidable figures emerged—Chrono Dran G and Chrono Tigar G—each carrying their own aura of power. And on the center, Chronojet Dragon G stood with its arms folded.

Chrono Dran G

Chrono Tigar G

Level 2 / EARTH / Zodiac Time Beast / Pendulum / Tuner / Effect

Chronojet Dragon G

Level 8 / DARK / Zodiac Time Beast / Synchro / Pendulum / Effect

ATK: 2500 / DEF: 2000 | Pendulum Scale: 1

Reiji frowned, clearly unimpressed. "You've brought back those three?"

Ryuki's smirk never wavered. "True, I brought back Chronojet G, Dran and Tigar. But I need to remind you, both Dran and Tigar are Tuners." His voice held a sharp edge as he saw Reiji's expression shift. He could sense his opponent's surprise.

"Chronojet G and Chronofang G are just at their starting lines. For this turn, we're going above and beyond!" Ryuki's PSYqualia flared up, a rich red aura enveloping him. The Zodiac Time Beasts in his possession began to glow as though the very threads of time were responding to his call.

The crowd was mesmerized, watching in awe as the glow enveloped Ryuki's monsters, radiating energy and power. "What's happening?" Masumi asked, her eyes wide with curiosity as she observed the shimmering energy.

The spellbinding sight captured the attention of everyone in the arena, but Ryuki's focus never wavered. "But first, let's take care of those set cards you have there." He placed his hand over his duel disk. "I activate Chronofang Tiger G's skill once more! I banish Chronobeat Buffalo from my Extra Deck, and I send two of your set cards to the bottom of your deck!"

Chronofang Tiger G's gauntlet sparked with energy, absorbing Chronobeat Buffalo as it unleashed a burst of power. The cards from Reiji's field began to distort, twisting and warping as they were sent back through time, their fates sealed in the folds of reality.

Reiji's eyes narrowed. "Not bad, Ryuki."

"Now with that out of the way, it's time to advance," Ryuki declared. "I tune my Level 2 Chrono Dran G with my Level 8 Chronojet Dragon G!"

Chrono Dran G transformed into two glowing Synchro Rings. From the center of those rings, Chronojet Dragon G leapt into position, its form majestic and powerful as it entered the rift between worlds.

"Through the rift of consequence and will, arise!" Ryuki called out, his voice commanding and clear. "Become the next moment's truth and advance the legacy!"

"Synchro Summon! Ignite the path, Level 10! — Chronodragon Nextage!"

A blinding light erupted, and the towering form of Chronodragon Nextage appeared on the field. This new version of Chronojet Dragon was a sight to behold—its thrusters had grown in size, and its once-gleaming wheels were replaced with powerful dragon feet. The scarf it had worn had grown longer, wrapping around its body, adding to its fierce design.

Chronodragon Nextage

Level 10 / DARK / Gear Dragon / Synchro / Pendulum / Effect

ATK: 2800 / DEF: 2500 | Pendulum Scale: 7

The crowd cheered wildly, their voices rising as they witnessed Ryuki's incredible Synchro Summon. Even Ruri and Rin, who had been watching intently, exchanged impressed glances.

"Chronojet evolved..." Ruri murmured, her voice filled with admiration.

"So that's what Dran will look like when he grows up~" Rin said with a smirk, clearly enjoying the display of strength. She had always admired Ryuki's ingenuity, and now she saw just how far he'd come in his duel.

Without waiting a moment, Ryuki turned to Reiji. "Next, I tune my Level 2 Chrono Tigar G with my Level 8 Chronofang Tiger G!"

Once again, the Synchro Rings formed in the air, and Chronofang Tiger G leapt into the center of the circle, its armored form poised for battle.

"Collapse the laws of order," Ryuki chanted, his eyes gleaming with excitement. "Sever the binding chains of fate! Bring ruin to time itself and awaken the primal roar!"

"Synchro Summon! Rampage through the timelines, Level 10! — Chronotiger Rebellion!"

The field erupted in another brilliant flash of light, and the imposing form of Chronotiger Rebellion materialized on the battlefield. This fierce creature was a much more menacing version of Chronofang Tiger G. Its gauntlets had transformed into massive claws, and its body was now adorned with additional armor, giving it a distinctly battle-ready appearance. Its thrusters roared to life as it prepared for battle.

Chronotiger Rebellion

Level 10 / EARTH / Zodiac Time Beast / Synchro / Pendulum / Effect

ATK: 3300 / DEF: 2100 | Pendulum Scale: 2

The crowd went wild. Loud cheers filled the arena, especially from the young boys who had been following Ryuki's moves closely. His strategy was undeniable—he was showing the power of the Zodiac Time Beasts in full force.

Ryuki didn't stop there. "Now then, let us begin!" he shouted. "I activate Chronotiger Rebellion's skill! I banish two Zodiac Time Beasts from my deck—Chronotimer Leghorn and Chronoclaw Monkey! With this, Chronotiger Rebellion gains 1000 ATK."

The audience watched in awe as the two banished Zodiac Time Beasts—the quirky Chronotimer Leghorn, a rooster chick with green wings and talons, and the steadfast Chronoclaw Monkey, armored in copper with gears on its body—faded into the aura of Chronotiger Rebellion. The great tiger let out a powerful roar, its strength increasing as its form grew larger.

Chronotiger Rebellion

ATK: 3300 → 4300

The crowd was on the edge of their seats as they saw the attack points soar. "4300 ATK!" one of the spectators shouted.

But Ryuki wasn't done yet. He smiled confidently, a glint of brilliance in his eyes. "And that's not all. For every banished card, Rebellion gains an additional 300 ATK. Since there are four cards, Rebellion gains 1200 ATK."

Chronotiger Rebellion

ATK: 4300 → 5500

"5500 ATK!" the crowd gasped in unison, their eyes wide with disbelief.

"Does that mean Akaba Reiji will lose?" one person asked, their voice filled with excitement.

"Will Ryuki be able to do it?" another murmured, the tension palpable in the air. Ruri and Rin watched, both of them unsure. Rin, in particular, felt a heavy sense of unease—Ryuki's power was immense, but Reiji always had something up his sleeve.

The stadium was alive with the deafening roar of the crowd, but Ryuki's focus remained unbroken, his eyes narrowing with intensity as he assessed the battlefield. The tension between him and Reiji crackled in the air, each move weighed with purpose, every decision a step closer to victory or defeat.

With a deep breath, Ryuki gripped his cards, the final phase of his turn drawing near. "Battle," he declared, his voice steady, as his monsters—Chronodragon Nextage and Chronotiger Rebellion—stood poised to strike. "I attack Temujin with Chronodragon Nextage!"

The massive form of Chronodragon Nextage launched forward, its thrusters firing with blinding speed. Its cannons aligned, ready to unleash devastating energy, but just as the attack reached its peak, Reiji's calm voice broke through the chaos.

"Caesar's Domination!" Reiji announced, his voice unwavering. "All of my D/D/D monsters gain 500 ATK for every D/D/D monster on my field!"

The battlefield shifted as the D/D/D monsters grew in power, their bodies radiating with new strength.

Temujin the Flame Overlord

ATK: 2000 → 3500

Alexander the Gale Overlord

ATK: 2500 → 4000

Caesar the Wave Overlord

ATK: 2400 → 3900

The attack from Nextage was met with a sudden surge of power. Ryuki's eyes flickered briefly to his Synchro monster as it prepared to unleash its force, but Reiji was prepared. He had expected this countermeasure, and it was clear that the battle was far from over.

Ryuki's lips twitched into a smirk. "Nice try, but I activate Nextage's skill!" he declared, his voice strong despite the tension. "When Chronodragon Nextage battles a monster whose level is higher or lower than it, neither monster can be destroyed, and all damage is negated."

The two monsters clashed, their power overwhelming the space between them. In a flash, the two combatants pushed against each other, locking in an intense power struggle. Neither monster was able to land a blow, and after a brief moment, they both backed off, their attacks thwarted by the effects of Nextage's ability.

The crowd gasped at the unexpected turn of events, murmurs spreading throughout the arena. Ryuki, unfazed, continued with his strategy. "Pity. I would use Nextage's skill to bring back Chronojet G, but it'll both destroy Temujin and Chronojet G at the same time. No, I won't take that risk."

"Chronotiger Rebellion, attack Alexander!" Chronotiger Rebellion's massive form shifted, its cannons locking onto Alexander the Gale Overlord. The enormous mechanical beast unleashed a blast of pure energy. Reiji took a few steps back as the shockwave rocked the field. The attack was powerful, landing squarely on Alexander, causing a massive explosion that shook the stands.

Reiji's LP dropped dramatically as the blow landed.

Reiji LP: 3900 → 2600

The crowd erupted into cheers, but Ryuki wasn't finished yet. He wasn't about to let his opponent off so easily.

"I'm not done yet!" Ryuki shouted, his voice gaining momentum. "I activate Chronotiger Rebellion's skill! If I have four or more Zodiac Time Beasts banished, Rebellion can attack again!"

The roar of Chronotiger Rebellion's engines filled the stadium as its power surged once more. Ryuki's eyes shone with determination as he gave the command. "Attack again, Rebellion! Now, attack Caesar!"

Chronotiger Rebellion aimed its cannons once again, targeting Caesar the Wave Overlord. The blast erupted with even greater force, sending a shockwave across the arena. Reiji staggered back, the rocks behind him cushioned the impact, as his LP took another hit.

Reiji LP: 2600 → 1200

The crowd went wild, their cheers echoing in Ryuki's ears. The tide was turning, but Ryuki knew better than to relax just yet. The battle was still far from over.

Ruri and Rin, standing in the stands, exchanged a look. Their faces were serious. "Why are you two quiet?" Sora asked, noticing the absence of their usual chatter. "Isn't Ryuki doing well?"

Ruri's voice was low, filled with caution. "It's not over yet."

Ryuki's heart skipped a beat as the dust cleared from the explosion, revealing the two remaining D/D/D monsters on Reiji's field—Alexander and Caesar. They were still standing strong, their power unchanged, and that caught everyone by surprise.

"But how?" Yuzu asked, her voice full of disbelief. "Ryuki attacked them for sure! Why are they still here?"

Ryuki studied the field carefully, his mind working in overdrive. Something wasn't adding up, and his instincts told him that Reiji had something planned. Then it clicked. He'd seen it when Rebellion attacked Alexander. Caesar had only one Overlay Unit left. And he knew exactly what that meant.

"I noticed when Rebellion attacked Alexander," Ryuki said, his tone calculating, "Caesar had only one Overlay Unit instead of two. You used it just as the attack was about to land, didn't you?"

Reiji allowed a small, knowing smirk to spread across his face. "Exactly," he said coolly. "Caesar has an effect that, by using one Overlay Unit, allows me to bring back as many D/D/D monsters as were destroyed this turn. But in return, I take 1000 damage for every monster I bring back during my next Standby Phase."

Ryuki's eyes narrowed as the implications of Reiji's move became clear. "So you'll take 2000 damage in your next turn, then?"

Reiji nodded, his expression unflinching. "True, but I have a backup plan." His voice was confident, even as the crowd's cheers began to fade into an uneasy silence.

"I activate my Trap Card, D/D Resource Management," Reiji continued. "By returning three D/D/D monsters from my field or graveyard to my deck, I can add two D/D monsters to my hand. I send all of my kings back to the Extra Deck and I take 2 cards from my deck." He placed the cards down with a flourish, and the audience leaned in, waiting for the next move.

"I activate my other Trap, D/D Trade," Reiji went on, his tone now slightly more measured. "By paying half of my LP, I can add two D/D cards to my hand."

Ryuki watched, his eyes hard as Reiji paid the cost, his LP dipping dramatically.

Reiji LP: 1200 → 600

Reiji continued his turn, but Ryuki wasn't about to let his guard down. "Hmmm..." Ryuki mused, his lips curling into a half-smile. "I'll end my turn here. But at the end of the phase, Chronotiger Rebellion's 1000 ATK boost disappears, but his 1200 ATK boost remains."

Chronotiger Rebellion's ATK dropped slightly, but it was still formidable.

Chronotiger Rebellion ATK: 5300 → 4300

The atmosphere in the stadium was thick with tension as both duelists braced for what came next. Ryuki had inflicted some serious damage, but Reiji had a way to recover. The Duel was on a knife's edge, and one wrong move could tip the scales.

Reiji: 600 | Hand: 5

Ryuki: 1100 | Hand: 4

Turn 5 – Reiji

The aftermath of Ryuki's bold offensive still echoed through the stadium, yet the tension in the air only thickened. The crowd was alive with anticipation—not from relief, but from what was still to come. Everyone sensed it. The real storm was only just beginning.

"Ryuki is in the lead," Yuzu noted, her voice firm yet nervous. "If he plays it safe next turn, he could win."

"But something's coming," Gongenzaka interjected, crossing his arms with conviction. "I, the man Gongenzaka, can feel it through the soles of my feet. Akaba Reiji still has something hidden."

"You feel it too, huh?" Yaiba added, his grin sharp as steel. "It's that pressure. The kind you feel before lightning strikes."

The You Show kids clung to the railings, their voices chiming out from the crowd.

"You can do it, Ryuki-sensei!"

Ryuki's gaze briefly flicked toward them. A small, genuine smile touched his lips at the sight of their unwavering support. But his attention soon shifted back to his opponent.

Reiji placed his fingers on his deck and drew without hesitation.

"My turn! Draw!"

The sound of the card being pulled echoed like a gunshot, silencing the breathless arena. Reiji stared down at Ryuki with renewed resolve.

"Out of all the duelists I've faced," Reiji began, "you are the first to drive me to this point. For the first time in what feels like an eternity... I feel the thrill of the duel." He adjusted his glasses slightly, and to everyone's surprise, a rare smile emerged—subtle, but undeniably real.

Ryuki returned the sentiment with a calm nod. "I heard that you've always dueled with precision and composure, Reiji. But sometimes, it's okay to let go. Be human. Feel the passion of the game, or you'll be crushed beneath the weight you carry."

In the stands, Himika Akaba's expression softened. Her hands trembled slightly as she watched her son—her true son—emerge from the cold figure he'd become.

"Reiji-san..." she whispered, her voice breaking under the weight of maternal guilt. "Forgive me..."

Nakajima turned to her, puzzled. "Chairwoman?"

"It seems we owe Himejima-san," she said with firm sincerity. "Nakajima, if he ever asks for anything, ensure it happens."

"U-Understood," Nakajima nodded. "Though... I've never seen the President smile like that before..."

Back on the Duel Field, Reiji's presence sharpened like a blade drawn from its scabbard.

"You've shown me your resolve, Ryuki. Now allow me to reveal mine."

With a dramatic pivot, Reiji pointed not at Ryuki—but toward the stands, locking eyes with Yuya.

"Sakaki Yuya! Etch this into your memory! I will now show you what true power looks like!"

Gasps rippled across the bleachers as Reiji revealed the two cards in his hand.

"No way... those are—" Sora started, but was cut off by Yuzu.

"Pendulum Cards!"

Yuya's eyes narrowed, though he remained calm.

"So LDS has finally managed it..." he said.

"You seem rather composed, Sakaki Yuya," Hokuto observed.

"I knew Reiji would develop Pendulum Cards eventually," Yuya replied, his tone cool but determined. "But just because he's caught up doesn't mean I'll let him surpass me. I will be the best."

Back on the field, Ryuki's eyes gleamed.

"So you did craft them yourself? Then bring it on."

Reiji mirrored the excitement. "With pleasure."

"From my hand, I use Scale 1 – D/D Magical Savant Galilei, and Scale 10 – D/D Magical Savant Kepler! And set the Pendulum Scale!"

Twin columns of pulsating purple light erupted from the Duel Disk, rising like ancient monoliths. Inside them floated the ominous silhouettes of Reiji's two Pendulum Casters.

D/D Magical Savant Galilei

Level 10 / DARK / Fiend / Pendulum / Effect / Domination

ATK: 0 / DEF: 0 | Pendulum Scale: 1

D/D Magical Savant Kepler

Level 1 / DARK / Fiend / Pendulum / Effect / Domination

ATK: 0 / DEF: 0 | Pendulum Scale: 10

"With this," Reiji declared, "I can summon monsters from Levels 2 to 9 simultaneously!"

A violet portal began to spiral open above him, and Reiji raised his hand.

"O grand power that shakes my very soul—descend with me and become the light that tears through the darkness!

Pendulum Summon!"

The arena shook with the sheer force of the invocation. A colossal beam of violet light surged down from the portal, and from it emerged four monstrous figures, cloaked in unholy majesty.

"The three transcendent deities who rule all kings—

D/D/D Cruel End Overlord Hell Armageddon!"

D/D/D Cruel End Overlord Hell Armageddon x3

Level 8 / DARK / Fiend / Pendulum / Effect / Domination

ATK: 3000 / DEF: 1000 | Pendulum Scale: 4

"And the supreme deity who passes judgment on the twilight of gods—

D/D/D Oblivion King Abyss Ragnarok!"

Oblivion King Abyss Ragnarok

Level 8 / DARK / Fiend / Pendulum / Effect / Domination

ATK: 2200 / DEF: 3000 | Pendulum Scale: 5

Shock swept through the stands.

"Four monsters summoned at once?!" shouted a student.

"And three of them have 3000 ATK!" Ruri gasped, her PSYqualia aura trembling uncontrollably.

Ryuki's eyes narrowed. So he's using Domination even on Pendulums now... impressive.

"I activate Abyss Ragnarok's effect!" Reiji continued. "When this card is Special Summoned, I can revive one D/D/D monster from my Graveyard. Rise again—Oracle King d'Arc!"

Abyss Ragnarok opened a portal beneath its feet, and from the swirling darkness rose the radiant form of d'Arc.

D/D/D Oracle King d'Arc

Level 7 / DARK / Fiend / Effect

ATK: 2800 / DEF: 2000

"Now Reiji has five monsters on the field!" Futoshi shouted.

"And one of them prevents him from taking effect damage," added Tatsuya, arms crossed as he analyzed the threat.

Reiji remained composed.

"I activate Galilei's Domination effect! Once per turn, I can increase its Scale by 1 to increase a monster's Level by 1. I target d'Arc!"

D/D Magical Savant Galilei

Pendulum Scale: 1 → 2

D/D/D Oracle King d'Arc

Level: 7 → 8

"Next, I activate Abyss Ragnarok's Domination! If I control three or more monsters of the same type, those monsters gain 500 ATK each. My three Hell Armageddons—all Pendulum Monsters—now gain 1500 ATK!"

D/D/D Cruel End Overlord Hell Armageddon x3:

ATK: 3000 → 4500

A wave of dread fell over the audience.

"This is bad. This is really bad..." Sora muttered, clenching his fists.

"Three 4500 ATK monsters? This isn't just an attack—it's annihilation," Gongenzaka said grimly.

But Reiji wasn't done.

"I overlay my Level 8 Abyss Ragnarok and Level 8 d'Arc!"

The two monsters turned into spiraling energy and vanished into a portal of abyssal light.

"When the twin suns rise, a new world is born! Xyz Summon! Appear—

Rank 8, D/D/D Duo-Dawn King Kali Yuga!"

D/D/D Duo-Dawn King Kali Yuga

Rank 8 / DARK / Fiend / Xyz / Effect / Domination

ATK: 3500 / DEF: 3000 | OU: 2

The stadium thundered with cheers. The display of Synchro, Fusion, Pendulum, and now Xyz was nothing short of historical.

"Kali Yuga's effect activates! When summoned, it negates all card effects on the field!"

Ryuki narrowed his eyes. He was prepared.

"Time Maiden of Eternity, Uluru's Pendulum Skill! If my opponent activates a card effect, I can negate it. That monster can't attack this turn, and I get to draw 1 card!"

Uluru's hourglass spun with radiant gold and silver energy, reversing the flow of Kali Yuga's power and sealing it.

Kali Yuga froze mid-surge, and its attack pathways were forcibly disabled.

The crowd erupted into gasps, then applause. Relief washed over the You Show students.

"He did it!" Ayu exclaimed. "Ryuki-sensei stopped it!"

Yuzu placed a hand to her heart, exhaling. "That could've ended the duel..."

Back on the field, Reiji's eyes widened—then softened again.

"...Well played, Ryuki."

Reiji's cold gaze locked onto the field. His voice rang with iron resolve as he declared,

"Battle. My Hell Armageddon on the left—attack Chronotiger Rebellion!"

The towering D/D/D Cruel End Overlord Hell Armageddon raised its skeletal hand, surging with infernal magic.

"I activate Hell Armageddon's Domination effect! When this card battles a Fusion, Synchro, or Xyz Monster, the damage you take is doubled!"

A surge of violent red energy gathered into the monster's body, its surface cracking as a beam began to charge. The crowd could feel the pressure—like the arena itself was bracing for impact.

Across the field, Chronotiger Rebellion, scarred from battle yet unbroken, turned toward Ryuki. Its emerald eyes flickered with purpose. Without hesitation, it leapt in front of its partner.

A thunderous detonation rang out. The Domination blast struck Rebellion directly.

The tiger roared in agony, and in the next instant, it disintegrated into shards of stardust.

"Agh—!"

Ryuki cried out as the attack connected. His body buckled under an unseen force, dropping to one knee. Sweat poured down his face, his chest heaving.

Ryuki: 1100 → 700

The pain was real.

"Ryuki!!" Both Ruri and Rin's voices rang out simultaneously from the audience. Their eyes wide, tears threatening to spill. Their cries drew Yuya and Yuzu's attention.

"What happened to Ryuki? Is he... hurt?" Yuzu's voice was soft, filled with worry.

Ruri's hands were clenched tightly on the railing as she answered. "I remember now—whenever Ryuki duels... he feels the pain his monsters go through. If they're hurt or destroyed... he suffers too."

Rin picked up where Ruri left off, her voice cracking. "Right now... Ryuki felt everything Rebellion did. That blast—it hit both of them."

The revelation sent a ripple of disbelief through the You Show students.

"He feels... real damage?" Yuzu whispered in horror.

The crowd went silent, faces pale. This wasn't just a duel. Ryuki was fighting with his life.

Back on the field, Reiji's eyes narrowed. He watched Ryuki struggle to stand. His instincts as a man told him to halt the battle—but his role as a leader demanded he finish it.

"My other Hell Armageddon—attack Chronodragon Nextage!"

No Domination effect was needed. This attack was strong enough to end it.

The second Hell Armageddon took aim, firing a beam of molten red energy that roared across the field.

Chronodragon Nextage stood tall, its core glowing with temporal light. Yet the force was overwhelming. The dragon exploded in a brilliant eruption of orange and violet, engulfed in flames.

The blast slammed into Ryuki, hurling him backward across the field.

Ryuki: 700 → 0

"Ryuki-sensei... lost?" Ayu's voice cracked with disbelief. The air seemed to leave the stadium.

"It can't be..." Tatsuya muttered.

"But wait!" Sora shouted, his sharp eyes catching something others hadn't.

"There's no winner announcement!"

Indeed, the Duel Disk's HUD hadn't declared Reiji as the victor. No fanfare. No flashing lights. Just static tension.

Reiji looked up, blinking as the field remained active.

And across from him, Ryuki groaned.

Smoke wafted from his uniform. His body trembled with effort. Slowly, painfully, Ryuki raised a hand. A card glinted in his grasp.

"You might be an incredible duelist, Reiji..." Ryuki spoke between ragged breaths. "...But to think... you didn't see this coming."

Gasps echoed throughout the stadium. "No way..."

Ruri and Rin's hands flew to their mouths as tears streamed down their cheeks.

Ryuki clenched the glowing card tightly. "I activate the effect of Aegis of the Immortal from my hand!"

A radiant orange light enveloped Ryuki. His Duel Disk shone as if in response to a divine presence.

"This card can only be activated if I draw it during my draw phase, and only if my LP becomes 0. I banish it from my hand... and my Life Points return to 4000!"

Ryuki: 0 → 4000

The audience erupted.

"EEEEHHHHHHHHH?!?" The synchronized disbelief from the crowd was thunderous.

"Did he just—come back from zero!?"

"That's impossible!"

Ryuki stood tall once more, flames of golden light swirling around him. His expression was sharp, resolved—his fighting spirit completely reignited.

"That's not all," he continued calmly. "If I have fewer than five cards in my hand, I draw until I do. But that's unnecessary. My hand already holds five."

He raised his Duel Disk. "And as the final effect of Aegis of the Immortal—your Battle Phase ends immediately."

The command fell like a hammer.

Reiji's Hell Armageddons began to dim, their fiery auras fading. Their enhanced ATK values receded, as though the Aegis's divine protection purged the battlefield of their fury.

D/D/D Cruel End Overlord Hell Armageddon x3

ATK : 4500 → 3000

Reiji's eyes widened slightly. Then he smiled—just faintly.

"To think... you had that card prepared."

His voice carried admiration.

"You truly are a fascinating man, Himejima Ryuki. I end my turn." Reiji ended his turn as he sighed.

Reiji: 600 LP | Hand: 0

Ryuki: 4000 LP | Hand: 5

The crowd stood in stunned silence. Ryuki had just turned what should have been a decisive defeat into a complete reversal. The duel wasn't over. In fact—it was only now entering its most explosive climax.

Yuya's fists were clenched, his eyes shining.

"He's... incredible. No wonder you said that Ryuki's strong."

Ruri and Rin leaned on each other, crying, relieved beyond measure.

The You Show students were speechless.

And Reiji—President of the Leo Corporation, heir to Duel Academy, the master of Fusion, Synchro, Xyz, and Pendulum alike—nodded solemnly.

This duel had transcended everything he had expected.

The next turn... would decide everything.

Turn 6 – Ryuki

A hush fell over the crowd as Ryuki, still bearing the weight of the previous turn's devastation, stood tall and resolute. His duel disk gleamed with energy, and the fire in his eyes was far from extinguished.

"Atashi no turn! Draw!" Ryuki called, his voice firm despite the pain still lingering from the destruction of Chronotiger Rebellion and Nextage.

At that moment, Reiji's gaze sharpened. Calm and methodical as always, he activated his final gambit.

"I activate Kali Yuga's Domination. As long as Kali Yuga remains on the field, all Special Summoned monsters cannot declare an attack."

The air in the arena immediately thickened with dread. A dark, suffocating aura expanded from Kali Yuga, spreading across the field like a death sentence. The You Show students gasped, their hope trembling like a candle in the wind.

"That means... Ryuki-sensei can't attack this turn?" Ayu whispered in horror.

"Is this... really the end?" Futoshi's fists clenched in silent despair.

But amid the mounting panic, a steady voice cut through the tension.

"No," Ruri said with quiet certainty. Her violet eyes glowed with trust in the man she loved.

"What do you mean?" Yuzu asked, turning to her.

Before Ruri could answer, Yuya spoke next, realization dawning in his expression. "Of course! If Ryuki summons that monster, then he can still turn this around!"

Rin nodded in agreement. "The one monster that can surpass the limits of time and evolution itself."

Back on the field, Ryuki's eyes narrowed as he glared at Kali Yuga. Its overwhelming pressure weighed down on the field like gravity, trying to paralyze even his thoughts. But then—his vision blurred, and his PSYqualia flared. A familiar warmth coursed through him as a voice echoed from the depths of time.

A future only you can reach... Take that step forward, Ryuki.

He smiled.

"I see... so you want me to do that. Alright then, I'll send you out now!" he declared, raising two cards.

"With my Scale 1 Chronodoze Sheep and Scale 13 Time Maiden of Eternity, Uluru, I reset the Pendulum Scale!"

Chronodoze's horn-gems glowed, while Uluru's hourglass rotated with divine elegance, filling the air with harmonic chimes.

"O guardians of time and gears of fate—align the axes of the past and future! Shatter the chains of causality and stride toward destiny! Pendulum Summon!"

Three columns of light exploded from his Extra Deck as he extended his hand forward.

"Come forth, my comrades! Chrono Dran G! Chrono Tigar G! Chronojet Dragon G!"

With synchronized roars and howls, the Zodiac Time Beasts descended once more.

Chrono Dran G

Level 2 / DARK / Zodiac Time Beast / Pendulum / Tuner / Effect

ATK: 800 / DEF: 500 | Pendulum Scale: 1

Chrono Tigar G

Level 2 / EARTH / Zodiac Time Beast / Pendulum / Tuner / Effect

ATK: 1000 / DEF: 900 | Pendulum Scale: 7

Chronojet Dragon G

Level 8 / DARK / Zodiac Time Beast / Synchro / Pendulum / Effect

ATK: 2500 / DEF: 2000 | Pendulum Scale: 1

Reiji adjusted his glasses. "You summoned them again, but with Kali Yuga active, none of them can attack. What are you planning?"

Ryuki simply smirked. "Like I said... every card I play has a purpose. And now, I'll take Synchro Summoning to the next step of evolution!"

A wave of murmurs surged through the audience.

"Evolution of Synchro?!" someone exclaimed.

"No way... can Synchro go beyond Level 12?"

Yuya, Ruri, and Rin were the only ones not surprised. They had seen this coming.

"I tune my Level 8 Chronojet Dragon G with my Level 2 Chrono Dran G and Level 2 Chrono Tigar G! Double Tuning!!"

The entire arena gasped. Twin Synchro Rings—vivid blue, not the usual green—spiraled into the air. The two tiny Time Beasts gave each other a proud high-five before transforming into radiant circuits of starlight. Chronojet Dragon G launched itself through them, roaring in synchronicity with the pulse of time.

"Gears entwined, memory renewed—resound with the voices of dragons of the past and echo into future turns! Synchro Summon! Harmonize time, Level 12! — Chronodragon Gear Groovy!!"

An explosion of energy burst from the summoning portal. The light cleared to reveal a majestic dragon, towering and refined, triple the size of Chronojet. Its armored frame was gilded with brass and starlight, its tail trailing constellations.

Chronodragon Gear Groovy

Level 12 / DARK / Gear Dragon / Synchro / Pendulum / Effect

ATK: 3500 / DEF: 2800 | Pendulum Scale: 8

The audience was awestruck.

Reiji's eyes widened. "You Synchro Summoned... with two Tuners?"

"This is my evolution of Synchro Summoning. The embodiment of time's revolution!" Ryuki answered confidently. "And this is the reason I summoned it. Gear Groovy's skill—activate!"

A glow spread across Gear Groovy's wings as Ryuki revealed a face-up Synchro monster from his Extra Deck.

"When this card is Synchro Summoned, I choose one Synchro Monster from my Extra Deck and I set it face-up! I choose Interdimensional Dragon, Chronoscommand Revolution!"

Its silhouette roared in the sky behind Gear Groovy.

"And now, Gear Groovy gains the skills of two Synchro Monsters in my Extra Deck until the end of this turn! I choose... Chronodragon Nextage and Chronoscommand Revolution!"

Everyone gasped. The dual silhouettes flanked Gear Groovy, merging into it in a flurry of gears and energy.

"First, I activate Chronoscommand Revolution's skill! I halve Gear Groovy's ATK to send all your cards to the bottom of your deck!"

Chronodragon Gear Groovy

ATK: 3500 → 1750

A shockwave of shimmering gears surged forward. Kali Yuga groaned as it was engulfed in the spiral of time energy, followed by all three Hell Armageddons and Reiji's Pendulum Scales.

They vanished—silently and completely—into the void of time, returned to the bottom of Reiji's deck.

The crowd erupted in disbelief.

"He cleared Reiji's entire field!"

"Kali Yuga... it's gone!"

"That's impossible...!"

Akaba Himika, watching intently, found her hands trembling. But instead of fear, it was awe—and relief. As she looked at Reiji, she saw something she hadn't seen in a long time: a smile. A real one.

"He's... enjoying this..." she whispered through tears.

Back on the field, Reiji slowly lowered his duel disk. The titan that had been his final line of defense—gone. There was no more strategy left to execute. But instead of despair, a deep peace filled him.

"You've done well, Himejima Ryuki," Reiji said softly, a tone of genuine respect in his voice.

Ryuki met his gaze, silently acknowledging the words with a nod.

He then raised his hand.

"Chronodragon Gear Groovy! End this! Direct attack!!"

The great dragon's wings flared wide as time energy gathered between its horns and claws. A vortex of stardust and gearlight formed into a massive beam, spiraling with the pulse of eternity itself.

Reiji closed his eyes.

"This... is what it means to face the future."

The beam fired.

Reiji: 600 → 0

Winner: Himejima Ryuki

-----

Silence blanketed the arena like the stillness after a passing storm. Not a word was uttered. No one dared to speak, as though the duel's sheer magnitude demanded reverence. Even the most seasoned spectators sat wide-eyed, hearts still racing from the breathtaking finish they had witnessed. The duel between Ryuki and Akaba Reiji had transcended entertainment—it had become legend.

Then, from somewhere in the crowd, a single clap rang out.

It was soft at first, hesitant, like a match struck in the dark.

Then came another. Then more.

Applause grew, swelling into a standing ovation that echoed across every seat, every corridor of the stadium. Thunderous cheers followed as people rose to their feet, shouting in joy, in awe, in pure admiration. Children waved their Duel Disks in the air. Adults beamed with childlike wonder. A wave of smiles washed over the crowd, unified by the electrifying performance they had been fortunate enough to witness.

Amid the applause, Reiji remained on the ground, chest rising and falling in slow, steady breaths. He had given everything—and in that moment, he felt no shame in his defeat.

A hand extended down toward him.

"...Need a hand?"

Ryuki's voice was calm, steady as ever.

Reiji stared at it for a moment, then grasped it firmly. Ryuki pulled him up with ease. The moment their eyes met, it was not rivals who stood before one another, but equals—Duelists who had clashed, not for victory, but for meaning.

"Thank you, Ryuki," Reiji said, brushing the dust off his coat. "You've reminded me... of the joy I once felt in dueling."

Ryuki smiled faintly. "You're welcome. But don't thank me too quickly. You still need to learn how to rest once in a while."

Reiji chuckled—genuinely, for the first time in a long while. "Then I'll take your advice seriously. Perhaps it's time for a short vacation. Three days. Just me and my mother."

"Good choice. She deserves it," Ryuki replied as they shook hands—firm, respectful, heartfelt.

"And Ryuki," Reiji added, his tone more formal now, "if you ever need anything—training facilities, equipment, information—LDS is at your disposal."

Ryuki nodded. "I appreciate that. I'll take you up on it when the time comes."

As Ryuki turned to leave, he paused and reached into his jacket. "Almost forgot. This is for you."

He handed Reiji a sealed envelope.

"What's this?" Reiji asked, puzzled.

"A letter. From Yusho-san. He planned to give it to you himself, but... I think you should read it once your mind is clear."

Reiji regarded the envelope for a moment, then nodded. "Understood."

"Oh—and here." Ryuki handed over a slip of paper. "My number. In case you ever want to talk."

And with that, Ryuki walked out of the dueling platform and into the corridor where the exit lights beckoned, leaving behind a stunned crowd still cheering in disbelief and admiration.

Outside, just beyond the arena's floodlights, Ryuki was met with a sudden ambush—but not of foes.

"Ryuki!!"

Ruri and Rin tackled him in a fierce double-hug, arms wrapped tightly around his sides. Ruri trembled slightly, her voice barely audible.

"You scared us... You really had us worried..."

Ryuki blinked, then gave a gentle smile and patted both their heads affectionately. "Sorry. But I'm back—and I'm alright."

The tension faded, replaced with sighs of relief and faint giggles. The moment between them was warm, sincere—a brief return to peace.

Just beyond the group, Yuya approached, grinning from ear to ear.

"You did it!" he shouted, holding out his palm.

Ryuki raised his hand, and the two performed a crisp, celebratory high five.

"You really put on a show," Yuya said. "I couldn't be prouder."

"I had a good teacher," Ryuki replied with a smirk.

Before he could say more, a trio of familiar voices interrupted.

"Ryuki-sensei!" Futoshi yelled.

"How did you get Pendulum cards?!" Ayu asked eagerly.

"And that dragon!" Tatsuya followed, eyes practically glowing. "That was amazing!"

Ryuki scratched the back of his head, sheepish under the barrage of excited questions. "I've actually had one for a while... I just didn't know how to use it properly. So I asked Yuya for help, and he taught me how to bring out their potential."

"That's so cool!" they all said in unison.

Then came the towering, solid presence of Gongenzaka.

"That was a duel worthy of history," he said firmly, nodding with approval. "Ryuki... I would be honored to face you in a duel someday."

Ryuki let out a short laugh, hand to his hip. "I'd love to, but... not today. I'm running on fumes."

Gongenzaka gave a solemn nod. "Then I shall wait until the day you are ready."

With that, the group shared one last round of smiles and laughter before they began heading home. The day had been long, but their hearts were light. For now, that was enough.

Meanwhile, in the sleek confines of LDS headquarters, Reiji sat in his office with his mother, Akaba Himika. She poured herself a cup of tea as they reviewed the aftermath of the duel.

"You did wonderfully," she said softly, offering him a smile. "You've regained your fire... even in defeat."

Reiji stared at the envelope Ryuki had given him, still unopened on his desk. "It felt... liberating," he admitted. "To push myself in a duel where I wasn't bound by expectations or pressure. Just the desire to enjoy it."

"I'm proud of you," Himika said, placing a gentle hand on his shoulder. "It's good to see you like this again."

Reiji leaned back in his chair. "I'm planning a vacation. Just the two of us. Three days."

Himika's eyes widened. "You're serious?"

"I am."

She blinked, then smiled fondly. "I'll hold you to it."

But their peaceful moment shattered with the sudden arrival of Nakajima, breathless and pale.

"Chairwoman—President—urgent report."

Both Akabas turned toward him instantly.

"What happened?" Reiji asked, voice sharpened.

"Six instructors from the Fusion Course..." Nakajima said, his voice strained. "They've been attacked... and are currently missing."

A heavy silence fell across the room.

Reiji's expression darkened. "Do we know who was responsible?"

Nakajima nodded grimly. "The assailant used Xyz monsters."

Reiji's jaw tensed. He slowly rose from his chair and moved toward the large window overlooking the city skyline.

"They've made their move," he murmured. "The remnants of the Xyz Dimension..."

Himika stood beside him, her face stern. "What is our next step?"

"First," Reiji said, eyes scanning the darkened skyline, "the production of Pendulum Cards must become our top priority. After today, every Duelist in the city will want one. Pendulum Summoning will become the new frontier."

Himika nodded in agreement.

"Second..." Reiji continued, turning back to face Nakajima. "We must immediately reinforce security for all Fusion users and instructors. If the enemy is targeting them, they won't discriminate. They'll come again."

Nakajima saluted. "Understood."

Both Himika and Nakajima left the office shortly after, each moving swiftly to carry out their respective duties. The door closed behind them with a quiet click.

Reiji returned to his seat, the silence of his office now deafening. He exhaled deeply and stared up at the ceiling.

"...I really need that break," he muttered under his breath.

His eyes drifted to the envelope from Yusho once more.

He picked it up slowly and stared at it.

Tomorrow, he told himself.

Not tonight.

Tonight, he would allow himself to rest.
