Fundamentals of Sumerian Magic

< A Brief Introduction for the Reader >

Taken from a single book about an Archmage, this magical system may seem intricate at first glance, but it's surprisingly easy to grasp — and doesn't require full comprehension to follow or enjoy reading.

Sumerian magic is an ancient system, hidden from the modern wizarding world, forgotten and worn away by time. This system views humans as multi-layered beings, consisting of bodily and spiritual shells, each responsible for a specific aspect of existence and magic.

🌌 Soul Structure: Nine Aspects

1. [ First Shell ] - Physical Body

Material vessel, the only part requiring no proof of existence.

2. [ Second Shell ] - Life Energy ( Prana )

Energy that sustains bodily functions.

3. [ Third Shell ] - Astral Body

Responsible for existence after death. This is what's seen during "aura scanning." Prana plus Astral Body equals Anochton - the unconscious part of the soul.

4. [ Fourth Shell ] - Atman

Central and indestructible core of the soul. Contains the code of the entire personality.

5. [ Fifth Shell ] - Oumos. Sensual spirit.

Responsible for personality, emotions, character.

6. [ Sixth Shell ] - Phrenes. Mind, intellect, memory.

Concentrated in the brain, but can function after death.

7. [ Seventh Shell ] - Nous. Magical spirit.

Responsible for magical ability, mana accumulation and channeling. Oumos plus Phrenes plus Nous equals Nous kai Logos - the conscious part of the soul.

8. [ Eighth Shell ] - Immortal Spirit

Exists only in immaterial beings: demons, djinn, angels.

9. [ Ninth Shell ] - Divine Spirit

Belongs exclusively to gods.

🧿 True Sight

The ability to see the spiritual structure of the world: auras, mana flows, emotional and magical states. An innate ability, blocked by consciousness. Opens through meditation, concentration and abandoning logical filters of perception.

Mage Hierarchy

The rank system that existed among Sumerian mages strictly defined the level of knowledge and power:

1. {Apprentice} - initial level.

2. {Journeyman} - a practicing mage with moderate skill and autonomy.

3. {Master} - powerful specialist in a specific direction of magic, who made a contribution to that school of magic.

4. {Magister} - a highly powerful mage with great societal influence, officially recognized after training a Master and fulfilling all the proper formalities.

5. {Archmage} - highest, informal level. Awarded either by universal recognition or by fact - if a mage possesses knowledge and power exceeding ordinary limits.

Interesting fact: Mages like Lerach (author of the grimoire) could achieve mastery in rituals, artificing and magical knowledge, but lack the title due to weakness in magical power or unwillingness to pay dues.
