Jisung woke up early that morning, put on his warm slippers, and went down to the kitchen to drink the last cup of coffee in his modest apartment.
He sipped it calmly, savoring its bitter aroma, sweetened by the sugar he had added before.
He finished his drink, washed the cup, and put it back in its place. Then he went upstairs and locked himself in the bathroom.
He took a nice shower and changed into a simple but cute outfit. The leather trousers highlighted his slim legs, and the yellow shirt tucked into them hung perfectly over his broad shoulders.
He accessorized his neck and ears and styled his hair. After brushing his teeth, he went down to the living room to put on his black boots.
He checked the apartment, and once he made sure everything was in order, he left the house with his suitcase.
He locked the door, put on his headphones, and walked to the bus stop that would take him to his university campus.
Han was in a particularly good mood that morning. He was about to change rooms and share it with a new roommate. He didn't want to know who it was in advance - he loved changes and meeting new people, so he decided he would find out only once he arrived.
This change was happening because Seungmin, his best friend since elementary school, was moving out to share a room with his boyfriend, who had previously lived with a Senior that had graduated the year before.
Jisung was more than happy to make this change and give the couple their own space and privacy.
When he arrived, he walked through the gate into the large courtyard and headed to the entrance to pick up the keys.
He reached the office, where the old lady handed him the keys. He smiled and thanked her before heading to the elevator.
He went up to his floor and reached the door to his room. He inserted the key, turned it, opened the door, and the first thing he noticed were the untouched suitcases of his roommate.
He smiled and closed the door just as he heard the bathroom flush, a sign that the boy was there.
He locked the door and turned around. As soon as he saw the face of the person with whom he would be sharing the room for the rest of the year, his smile faded, replaced by an expression of displeasure.
The same happened when the older looked up and met the younger's gaze.
"YOU?!" They glared at each other.
Han huffed, more irritated than ever, already feeling the urge to slap him rising.
"Out of all the thousands of people, I had to end up with a brat like you?" the older one grumbled, flopping down onto the bed.
"Trust me, I'm not happy either to be stuck with a narcissistic jerk like you!" Han growled, glaring at him sideways. "And anyway, I'm not a brat, asshole!"
"Sorry, my bad. You're a talkative and annoying brat."
"Yah! Cut it out."
"Why should I?" He smiled crookedly, making Jisung even more irritated, who held himself back from slapping his obnoxiously perfect face.
"Fuck you, Lee Minho." Han growled and stormed out of the room.
He had agreed to the room change but not to the roommate he ended up with.
He quickly went down the stairs and headed to the cafeteria. As soon as he stepped inside, he was called out by a very familiar voice. He looked up and saw his best friend's smiling face waving to greet him.
Without any expression on his face, he approached the table where the dark-haired guy was sitting, sweetly accompanied by his boyfriend.
"Hannie, I'm so happy to see you. I was starting to miss you—why the long face?"
"I want to change rooms."
"First of all, you greet people, you know? And secondly: why? You just arrived and you already want to change rooms."
"Sorry, sorry, hello to both of you," he forced a smile and continued talking, "do you want to know who I ended up with?"
"You seem pretty annoyed about it, so yes, tell me who this person is that irritates you so much."
"Lee Minho, that ugly, arrogant narcissist," he huffed.
There was a brief silence before his friend's laughter filled their table. His boyfriend looked at him confused while he was glaring at him.
"Were you really that unlucky?"
"Is this your way of thanking me for letting you have sex with your boyfriend peacefully without having to do it in some abandoned classroom?"
"Yah! Lower your voice! Someone might hear!" He looked at him seriously, making his boyfriend laugh. "And anyway, I think I thanked you enough—I made you three different cheesecakes. I paid my debt."
"Stop laughing at me," he glared, crossing his arms over his chest. "I was in a good mood until a little while ago, but seeing his annoying perfect face ruined everything."
"What's wrong with Minho?" Hyunjin spoke up, not really understanding what was going on.
"Everything!" he almost shouted. "He's so annoying with his little prince attitude, as if he was the only one! Then he's so arrogant and narcissistic that I feel like slapping him."
"So you don't get along, then," observed the tallest of the three.
"It's different. I hate him with all my heart. And I still can't believe that out of the thousands of students at this university, I ended up with him. I'm starting to think whoever's up there hates me!"
"Apparently, fate wanted to bring you together to make you closer," Seungmin remarked.
"Dear old fate could have spared me this nasty joke. It's really in poor taste."
"Remember, from negative and negative always comes a positive," Hyunjin said with a philosophical air.
"There will never be anything positive between us. We hate each other, and that will never change."
The young couple looked at Han, then at each other. "I think he'll end up falling for him pretty soon," Hyunjin began.
"I think so too."
"Oh, come on! Whose side are you on, Kim Seungmin?!"
"I agree with you, but I think Hyunjin isn't entirely wrong, and neither is math. I know it's not your favorite subject, but if you think about it, you can remember that: a negative times a negative is always positive."
"I'm not going to base my life on some stupid math formula."
"You'll see, in a few months you'll understand that it's not so wrong."
"I agree with Minnie. I'm sure that little by little you'll manage to get along," Hyunjin smiled, making the poor guy laugh heartily.
"It'll be a miracle if I don't strangle him while he's sleeping."
"Do as you please, but now we have to go. You better go to your room and settle your things. See you tonight at the welcome party." The two got up holding hands.
"Oh sure, I'm running straight to that room. Can't wait, look!" He said sarcastically, shooting a deadly look at the two.
"Ignore him and live your life. And please, try not to strangle him while he's sleeping."
"I'll try. See you tonight." Han huffed, saying goodbye to the two, who disappeared shortly after, leaving him alone at the table.
He ordered a bubble tea and a slice of cheesecake, deciding to stay there as long as possible so he could see the annoying narcissist's face as little as possible.
