Chapter 9 Let's Go Adventuring (Part 1)
When Yu Qing opened his eyes, his head was resting on Furong's stomach, while Yan'er and Daji were tiptoeing around the bedside. Furong kept her eyes downcast, not daring to look at them.
Seeing him awake, Daji stepped forward and asked, "Are we still leaving today?"
"Of course we are. Why didn't you wake me up earlier?"
Yan'er said, "Who would dare? You were sleeping so soundly!"
Yu Qing replied, "Actually, it's fine. Isn't it just one or two hours to reach Weng Mountain?
Daji, first prepare some glutinous powder for me to fill my stomach. We'll leave once we've eaten our fill."
Daji brought two large bowls of glutinous powder and said meaningfully:
"You expended too much energy yesterday. You need more nourishment."
As he ate, Yu Qing said, "You all are better off—just needing to recharge is enough for you.
This person is truly an inferior product - eating all day long, with smelly feces and stinky urine, excelling at nothing compared to you all.
Daji, tell me, aren't you quite indignant about this?"
Daji laughed and said: "How could I be, darling? If humans were better at everything, what would be the point of having us around?"
Yan'er handed over water, saying: "Drink up quickly and pass all your fragrant gas so we can continue our journey."
By this time Furong had already dressed and came running over, gently patting Yuqing's back to help the food and water settle faster.
"Maybe we should do as Daji suggested - let me sleep in the crate as we travel. But I'm afraid of the dark, so Yan'er should stay inside with me."
Daji said: "The crate isn't that big!"
Yan'er went to open the crate, gesturing its dimensions: "I think we could squeeze in if we try."
Daji snapped angrily: "Squeeze your head off! Wouldn't that make it overweight? How could it slide quickly then?"
Furong said: "I could walk outside and push it along as we go."
Daji said: "Can you slide fast then? Fine, fine, have it your way!"
Yu Qing thought this seemed rather fun, so he lay down in the box and asked Yan'er to join him.
He held Yan'er tightly in his arms, but couldn't close the lid no matter how he tried.
Yu Qing whispered in Yan'er's ear:
"Let's hug a little longer to annoy Daji - her jealousy is about to boil over."
Yan'er whispered back:
"Darling, we can't do this. Her anger level seems to be 3, which means she might ignore you for 3 days, and then we won't be able to leave."
Yu Qing immediately released Yan'er and climbed out of the box, saying:
"Is everything packed? Let's go."
Furong secretly winked at Yu Qing and pointed at Daji, who had somehow ended up standing by the window in deep hibernation.
Yan'er said: "See! Now we can't leave."
Yu Qing said: "You go wake her up!"
Furong said: "We can't wake her up. Deep hibernation can only be automatically unlocked when encountering external danger."
Yuqing didn't believe it and went over to pull her ear, saying: "The sky is falling! The earth is collapsing! There's a flood!"
Daji showed no reaction.
Yuqing said: "Then let's leave, let her stay here by herself!"
Yan'er said: "That won't do either. We were bought by her, we can't just abandon her."
Yuqing said: "I was just saying it, guess we'll have to leave later then.
By the way, I forgot to ask you something yesterday - how come I don't know anything about things like Class C roads?"
Yan'er said: "Class C roads are upgraded from walking paths. New humans actually walk very little now, so roads were upgraded to Class C with near-field charging systems. Just wear auto-gliding boots and you can glide about 40 km per hour, with the road automatically recharging the boots.
Class B roads are high-speed metal conveyor belts, traveling about 1,500 km per hour. These are typically used for long-distance transportation.
There are several entrances and exits along the road. At the entrance, several packaging boxes are placed by the roadside. When someone enters and presses start, they are immediately transported several kilometers along the road on a metal belt.
Class A roads use capsule transportation. You just need to enter the capsule at the departure point. The road mechanism actually functions like a rapid-fire cannon, shooting you like a projectile through a barrel to your destination. Its speed ranges from 8,000 to 15,000 kilometers per hour."
"The technology is impressive, but is such speed really necessary? It's not like we're rushing to reincarnate!"
"Huh? Back then, there were indeed people who shared your view and opposed the construction of Class A roads, arguing that the value of life lies in moderately wasting time, not endlessly rushing around."
"So, does that mean we're moderately wasting time today?"
"However, Class A roads are indeed convenient for us humanoids."
"Huh? You've traveled on Class A roads too? Weren't you transported by freight vehicles?"
"No, we came on our own, packed in boxes.
Trucks are hardly used anymore. Goods are mostly loaded into smart containers that deliver themselves. For long distances, they travel like people do - taking grade A and B roads, then finally grade C roads to reach their destination or the recipient."
"Wouldn't that be very expensive?"
"No, it's actually very cheap. Smart containers of various sizes are reusable and available worldwide."
"No wonder Daji thought of putting me in a container to transport me to Weng Mountain."
At this moment, Yu Qing thought about charging his Time Capsule - a device inherited from his father that he'd carried since leaving First Paradise.
He took the Time Capsule from his protective suit's pocket and asked Furong to handle it. After examining it briefly, Furong said:
"Sweetie, we can't charge it right now. It's too outdated - it only accepts 220V charging voltage.
The wireless or near-field charging here has been upgraded to 200,000V already."
Yu Qing was shocked: "Wouldn't that be extremely dangerous for people? If someone accidentally walked through a wireless charging field, wouldn't they be done for?"
"No, sweetheart. First, it's transient charging; second, it can detect if any living being approaches.
Besides, when would you ever have a chance to touch electricity? We handle anything potentially dangerous for you.
We can withstand 1 million volts of electric shock."
Yu Qing thought since he now had Daji and the other two, the Time Box had become useless. He initially planned to discard it, but remembering it was left by his father, he asked Furong to put it back in its original place.
His heart raced as he gazed at Daji's retreating figure.
His original intention when escaping from the First Paradise was indeed to find and reunite with his kind in other paradises, but now… this didn't seem so bad after all.
He suddenly realized the images of Yaya and Qiongqiong were growing increasingly faint in his memory.
He had lived with them for over twenty years, yet unlike Daji and the others—who he'd only known for days or even just hours—they never brought him such comfort and attachment.
Humans truly are fickle creatures…
He felt poisoned, bewitched by these three human-like beauties.
But this couldn't shake his determination to reunite with other humans.
The humanoids had in fact developed cognitive abilities superior to humans; someday they would deduce that he was nothing but a burden to them.
It felt more reassuring to be among people who mutually needed each other.
He thought, he needed to make them all "love-struck," a bit more foolish - preferably wandering in circles rather than stepping out to deduce that, to them, he was utterly useless.
At this thought, he couldn't help but laugh. He shouldn't merely treat them as products manufactured by humans.
After all, even neo-humans were no longer natural products either.
They possessed thought processes similar to humans; for now, he should regard them as equals.
He did something that startled Yan'er and the others - he walked over, gently picked up Daji, placed her under the covers, then sat beside her watching.
