Mikhail was in utter confusion at the holographic screens in front of him.
Especially for someone like him, who was seeing them for the first time.
'Oath and a…Chronicle??'
He understood the meaning of the first one but not the second one.
From what he could see it seemed like a mission that he had to complete.
'Uncover the assassination? Save the academy?'
What the hell did it mean by this?
The [Rewards] seemed to be the things he would be given for completing it.
Asides from whatever assassination it meant, how could he even trust these screens?
His head was in confusion.
He had never seen any holographic power like this in his past life.
It wasn't even his Dragma so what?
And then, the oath screen?
What oath? He couldn't remember making any.
'Hmm..'
Mikhail calmed his mind and closed his eyes.
Clank!
His eyes suddenly opened with a sharp motion.
It was true, he did have an oath in his body.
But the main problem was…..
The fact that he didn't know what the conditions were, or what he had taken for swearing it.
He didn't feel any power up in his body.
'What the hell?'
The only clue he had was the penalty. Not like it was a good one anyway.
"Death."
The word reminded him of his fate in his previous life, sending a shiver down his spine.
No. He couldn't squander this chance again.
From knowing the oath was true, he knew at least the screens weren't lying.
Which meant the rewards were true as well, and also most likely the mission.
Currently, the mission was the only clue to his oath too as the screens were probably connected.
Mikhail turned his eye to the mission screen.
He tried to remember anything remotely related to the assassination or destruction of the academy around the current date.
'Urgh..'
His whole memory was a haze after the regression.
But then…
Click!
It clicked inside his mind.
The Dominique's visit soon to the academy in his previous life.
They were high figures in the empire that were known to do whatever the hell they wanted.
They often visited the wall for their own purposes or whatever the hell pleased their mind.
Anything but the state of the wall or the world outside of it.
Why would they care about them?
Mikhail gritted his teeth.
In any case, he remembered the truth now.
The Dominique's visit that day and the sudden raid of wormholes north of the wall.
It was all related somehow, instead of an accident as it was labelled in his past life.
Which meant that it was orchestrated.
By someone inside the academy or the Dominique themself.
And it was Mikhail's job to find out who was responsible for it, if he wanted to find anything related to his regression.
Mikhail looked at his guns and clothes on the table beside him.
He had been through many serious and life threatening situations in his previous life.
But nothing as important as this.
Life wasn't guaranteed for him this time unlike the last time in the horrifying incident.
The timeline was changed now.
But if he didn't do anything, the oath would kill him.
And his family.
Mikhail remained silent for a second before taking a deep sigh and standing up.
Grabbing his guns and putting on his clothes, he moved outside.
Well, it wasn't like he had a choice in this.
***
Stepping outside of his room, Mikhail felt the cold seep into his skin.
The sudden breath of fresh air brought a sense of refreshness to him.
It felt good, it felt comforting.
"Not for long though."
He shifted his mind back to the days that awaited him.
But before he could think forward, a voice interrupted him from the side.
"Not for long what?"
It was instantly recognizable.
Mikhail turned, his aqua-colored eyes making contact with the meadow green ones of Modric.
He quickly excused.
"I was talking about the refreshness after a good sleep, it won't be there after the drill after all."
Modric stared at his face for a second in silence, as if contemplating his words.
Or maybe something deeper, Mikhail didn't know.
The man was always a quiet one.
He saw Modric nod in the next second.
"You're right. You need to hurry up, everyone is already there except you."
Mikhail didn't say anything else, just moved forward.
Modric, as if it was natural, came to his right hand side behind him and started walking with him.
It was his place as the vice-commander.
Walking through the camp brought a fresh line of memories to Mikhail.
Bad but nostalgic memories.
Even if this was the place that changed him for all the years before he became a true soldier, it still held his memories.
The creaking of the nether wood under his feet and the buildings standing tall aside him.
It was where he had spent a major part of his life.
Ignoring the architecture, he focused his gaze forward.
To the central space of the camp.
He saw most of the squadrons already assembled there, as Modric had told him.
On the bridge overlooking the central space, he saw the 4 masters of the encampment and the Lord Commander.
He saw two of the figures directing intense stares at him but he was used to it.
Ignoring them, his gaze met with the Lord Commander's grey eyes.
The message was clear.
'Don't do this again.'
Mikhail nodded, turning to the squadrons below who all looked up at him as well.
Again, a majority of furious stares were directed at him but he remained unfazed.
Walking down the stairs, he joined his own squadron.
Going to stand up at the front, he greeted all of them with a slight nod.
Words could be exchanged later, it had already gotten past the debrief time.
And as said the moment Mikhail stepped up to the front, the Lord Commander Vlahovic tapped his stick to the ground.
"We shall start the drill debriefing now."
'It's time.'
