"I said don't touch me!" Audrey screamed, pulling away from the guard who tried to drag her up. She collapsed back onto the cold stone, her once elegant clothes now nothing but filthy rags. "I am still the Luna of this pack! I deserve dignity!"
I watched from the shadows as the former Luna thrashed against her restraints, her wrists raw and bleeding from the silver chains that bound her. There was a certain morbid pleasure in seeing a woman who had once looked down on me now reduced to a prisoner awaiting execution.
"Leave us," I commanded the guards. They hesitated, exchanging uncertain glances. "The King ordered me to speak with her alone. Go."
Only when the heavy dungeon door closed behind them did I step into the dim light of the torch. Audrey's wild eyes found mine, recognition flickering through the madness that had consumed her.
"You," she spat, hatred twisting her once beautiful features. "Come to gloat before they kill me?"
