The dense mist had been our constant companion for what felt like an eternity. It swirled around our ship like spectral fingers, making it impossible to see more than a few feet ahead. I gripped the cold metal railing, my knuckles white, while the cursed Vampire King stood nearby, his arrogance radiating like a black sun.
"How much longer?" I asked, unable to keep the tension from my voice.
He didn't even glance my way. "Ask your magical artifact, Selenia."
I clenched my jaw, irritation burning in my chest. The last two days aboard this ship had been unbearable. Confined spaces and hostile company were a terrible combination. The King seemed equally on edge, his mood souring with each passing hour.
"Your Majesty," a sailor called out. "Land ahead!"
The King moved so quickly I barely had time to register it. He shoved past me, knocking me sideways as he rushed to the bow. The sudden motion sent me stumbling.
"Watch it," I hissed, steadying myself.
