I shifted uncomfortably as Leo beamed at me with that innocent smile. Tristan had left the room to inform Carina about dinner, and now I was stuck in this awkward situation with no graceful exit.
"I'm so glad you're staying!" Leo exclaimed, grabbing my hand and tugging me toward the couch. "You can sit next to me at dinner. I'll show you my collection of arrowheads after we eat."
"That sounds nice," I said, my smile feeling strained. What had I gotten myself into?
Camille closed her compact mirror and stood. "I should go freshen up before dinner. Make yourself at home, Seraphina."
As she disappeared down the hallway, I found myself alone with Leo. He was chattering excitedly about his day, but my mind was racing with alarm bells. This was dangerous territory. Being a tutor was one thing, but inserting myself into family dinners was something else entirely. I needed to leave.
