Chapter 5 - Chapter - 5 Mother

When the tall man entered the room, Adrian Thorne watched him carefully and thought to himself:

"So…this is my father. But why does the Relationship Points show 8 out of 10?"

The doctor quickly turned to Victor Thorne and said respectfully,

"Your Grace, the young master is now stable. However, due to the severe blow to his head, he has lost his memory. All other injuries have healed completely."

Victor's voice was cool and clipped:

"Understood."

He gestured for the doctor to leave.

A maid stepped forward, bowed, and escorted the doctor out of the room.

Victor's sharp gaze turned to Adrian.

His tone turned hard—

"So…tell me. What were you doing last night, drunk, in the Red Light District?"

Adrian's face showed honest confusion.

He truly had no idea what this was about.

Slowly, he said,

"I… I'm sorry. I don't know who you are…or what you're asking me about."

At that reply, Victor's face darkened with anger.

But before he could say anything more, Selena Thorne stepped forward and stopped him.

"The doctor said clearly he's lost his memory," she said firmly.

"Why are you interrogating him right now?"

Victor drew in a long breath.

He looked at his wife in silence, then turned and strode out of the room without another word.

Selena came closer to Adrian, her voice softening.

"My child…do you not remember me at all?"

Adrian lowered his head and slowly shook it—no.

Selena's eyes filled with tears.

And when Adrian saw those tears—he felt something twist painfully in his chest.

He didn't know why, but it felt as if—if this woman's eyes ever wept again—he would set the whole world on fire.

Quietly, he said,

"Mother… I truly remember nothing. How…how did I lose my memories? Can you please tell me?"

The moment she heard the word mother, Selena's face lit up, even through her sadness.

"Yes… Come, sit down. I will tell you everything."

She began gently explaining who he was, who his father was, and how he had lost his memories.

According to Selena, Adrian had been attacked—someone had tried to kill him.

That attack had shattered his memories.

Inside, Adrian finally understood.

The original soul in this body had probably died in that assault.

Only then had the system placed him here.

He already knew—thanks to the Golden Eye of Spy skill—that Victor was his father and the head of House Thorne.

But he had to keep up the act of amnesia.

If anyone suspected he wasn't truly their son, he would be exposed—and destroyed.

For nearly two hours, Selena sat with him, answering every question, filling the silent gaps in his story.

Then, suddenly, Adrian's stomach let out a loud, hungry growl.

Selena covered her mouth, trying not to laugh.

"My dear, you must be starving. Come, I'll have something prepared for you to eat."

Adrian nodded quietly.

He really was famished.

Selena turned to Adrian and spoke in a gentle voice, trying to mask her own exhaustion:

"Son, why don't you take a bath and freshen up? I'll have something good prepared for your breakfast."

With that, she descended the stairs, leaving Adrian alone in the grand chamber.

He rose slowly, feeling the unfamiliar weight of this new body, and stepped into the adjoining bathroom.

The sight made him pause.

It was not simply a bathroom—it was a miniature spa, complete with a marble-tiled pool larger than his entire bedroom from his past life.

Adrian gave a faint, ironic smile.

"In my last life, I could barely afford a cramped room… Now I have a bath bigger than everything I owned."

He undressed, slipped into the warm water, and let himself sink against the edge with his eyes closed.

Downstairs, Selena entered the kitchen and spoke quietly to the servants.

"Prepare a proper breakfast. Make sure it's something light—he hasn't eaten in days."

Victor Thorn was sitting in the main hall, his expression unreadable.

When he noticed her, he raised his gaze.

"How is he?"

Selena sighed softly.

"He doesn't remember anything, as the physician warned. He kept asking who he was… where he was… All the usual questions."

Victor's jaw tightened.

"…Something in his tone feels different. As if he's not my son at all."

"His memory is gone," Selena insisted quietly. "Of course he'll sound different. Give him time. He needs space to heal."

Victor said nothing further. He simply leaned back in his chair, staring into the distance.

Upstairs, Adrian let the warmth soak into his tired limbs.

He could not stop the memories flooding his mind—every humiliation, every betrayal he had endured before this second chance.

He clenched his hand under the water.

No matter what happens… In this life, I will have everything I was denied.

After some time, he rose from the bath and returned to the room, searching the carved wardrobes for clothes.

His fingers paused on a garment—a black and crimson tunic embroidered with gold thread. The fabric shimmered in the morning light.

He dressed and examined himself in the tall mirror.

"Once this body regains its strength," he murmured, "I'll look even more impressive."

Taking a slow breath, Adrian left the room.

He moved down the wide staircase, noting every elegant detail—the polished floors, the priceless tapestries.

This was no ordinary noble's house. This was a palace in all but name.

As he reached the last steps, he saw Victor Thorn seated alone in the hall.

Adrian hesitated only a moment, then inclined his head in a courteous bow.

"Father," he said evenly, "how are you feeling today?"

Victor's attention snapped back from his dark thoughts.

He studied Adrian with a cautious, searching look.

"I am well enough, my son. And you—do you feel your injuries are healed? Has your memory returned?"

Adrian shook his head.

"No, Father. My wounds are gone, but my memories…they haven't come back."

Victor did not reply. He only watched him, silent.

A moment later, Selena emerged from the kitchen carrying a linen cloth to dry her hands.

She looked him over and smiled.

"That suit… It suits you well, Adrian. You look very handsome."

Adrian only gave her a quiet, grateful smile.

"Come, dear," Selena said warmly. "Let's eat something."

Adrian nodded, then glanced back at Victor, who still hadn't moved.

"Father," he said carefully, "won't you join us for breakfast?"

Both Selena and Victor looked momentarily surprised at his tone—polite, composed, unfamiliar.

But Victor exhaled slowly.

"…Very well, son. Today, we will eat together."

He rose from his chair, and the three of them made their way toward the grand dining hall.
