Ian~
I woke up at 9:00 AM, feeling refreshed after a good night's sleep. The sunlight streaming through the windows of my villa was a gentle reminder that a new day had begun. I stretched my arms and yawned, shaking off the remnants of sleep.
I picked up the telephone by my side and dialed the house line,
"Get my coffee ready". I said placing the telephone back on the drawer.
After a luxurious bath, I dressed in my signature black suit, feeling like the CEO of Kyrotech that I was. My personal assistant, Noah, called me to remind me that the car was ready and waiting outside.
"Good morning, Mr. Pierce . The BMW is packed and ready to go. You have a packed schedule today, including several meetings with potential investors and partners," Noah's voice was crisp and professional.
I nodded, even though he couldn't see me. "Thanks, Noah. I'll be right out in an hour".
Being CEO of such a huge company isn't an easy task no wonder my brother gave up before even giving it a try.
"you are the future of Kyrotech you are my only heir"
I recall my father saying those words while I was still in high school unaware of the challenges ahead.
But being the CEO comes with an advantage. I'm popular, handsome, rich , influential, hot, apparently all the ladies want to have my baby. And here's the disadvantages; series of publications defaming my name, false narratives about my lifestyle.
What do you mean I'm too proud and arrogant! That's isn't a lie though but what the hell is I'm GAY!!!
Just because I'm single doesn't mean I don't like women, of course I do but not the ones throwing themselves at me or playing damsel in distress.
As I exited my villa with a cup of coffee in my hand, Noah greeted me with a nod. "Good morning, sir. Let's get going. We have a lot to cover today."
The drive to the office was smooth, and I spent the time reviewing my schedule for the day. Noah briefed me on the various meetings and discussions I would have, and I nodded along, taking mental notes. Noah is my right hand man, my personal assistant and also my friend from university. He's always up to date with all my needs, very smart and calculative doesn't talk much and he knows me more than any other person.
When we arrived at the office, Marie, my secretary, was already waiting. She smiled brightly as I approached, and I couldn't help but notice her overly friendly demeanor these days and her dress style recently changed too, her tops are becoming too revealing and indecent. I know she's shooting her shots but I can't blame her though, I'm just too handsome.
"Good morning, Mr. Pierce ," she said, her voice husky and confident.
I nodded curtly, not encouraging her flirtatious behavior. "Morning, Marie. Let's get started."
Throughout the day, I met with various businesspeople, discussing deals and partnerships. Marie was always there, efficiently managing my schedule and ensuring that everything ran smoothly.
As the day drew to a close, I couldn't help but notice Marie's subtle hints and flirtatious smiles. She would touch my arm as she handed me documents, or lean in close to whisper something in my ear.
I felt sorry so for her, so far I've continue to lead her on. She's the 15th secretary I've employed this month, I don't think she values her job.
The last meeting came to an end, I stood up, feeling a sense of relief wash over me. "Thanks, everyone," I said, smiling at my team. "Let's wrap things up for today."
Noah came in and whisper something in my ear.
I almost forgot about my Grandfather, He was admitted in city Hospital last week, currently suffering from COPD ( chronic obstructive pulmonary disease). I have to go visit him, my mom told me he's been asking about me since the past few days.
As I turned to leave, Marie caught my eye, her gaze lingering on mine.
"Mr. Pierce , would you like me to treat you to dinner ?" she asked, her voice low and inviting.
I looked at Noah and nodded a signal to fire her any time soon.
"How lovely Miss Marie, I can see you do not value your job anymore, how about I relieve you of this stress hmm, they are more serious people waiting to take your place". Her eyes filled with horror and disappointment she looked at her finger nails fidgeting and biting her lips.
I turned to Noah.
"Pls when you're done meet me outside". I walked towards the door .
"Miss Marie, you are fired". I heard Noah said then soon later Marie pleas .
"Sir please I'm sorry, I won't flirt with you again! Please another chance!! Please!" She shouted .
"Damn that lady is one hella desperate. Could you believe she refused to come out of the office I have to call the security officers to drag her out?"
Noah commented fixing his hair.
I nod in agreement as we head out to the parking lot.
….
"I know Williams told you not to visit me, I'm sure of that".
My Grandpa had earlier said his voice weak, barely audible whisper. Part of it was true; My Father doesn't want me to visit Grandfather because of some of unresolved disagreements between them but I careless. I owed much of my wisdom and business strategies to my Grandfather so I can't just abandon him in his last days.
A Few minutes later a frail-looking nurse stepped in, her expression shocked to see me in the ward, as she wasn't expecting my visit. Her cheeks immediately flushed then she bowed.
"Mr Pierce I wasn't expecting you… Good evening sir". She was holding a tray of medications that was supposed to be administer to my Grandfather.
"Good evening Nurse. I can see you've been taking good care of him, Thank you".
I appreciated. My Grandfather had made mention of her in the cause of our discussion. He said she always cheers him up with her jokes and updates him on every trend on social media.
"Oh well… it's nothing I'm just doing my job". She said stuttering. Made me wonder if I was that intimidating.
"And for that," I signal for Noah who had being standing close to me all this while without any expression to hand me the checkbook and a pen. Realizing what I was about to do she instantly drop other tray on the table.
"Please you don't have to…" she protested finally looking at me. She looks malnourished and tired, she obviously need money besides she has done a good job.
"Come on now Patty, take it". GrandFather said encouraging her. I tore out the check and handed it over to the nurse she hesitated for a while but she took it. Her hand flung up to her mouth her eyes bulging out from the socket.
"Well that's my cue to leave". I said standing up.
"I'll leave you to do your job". I stood up and head for the door while Noah followed slowly behind me.
…
I stepped onto the balcony to get a better view of the city and clear my mind of the thoughts that lingered from my conversation with Grandfather.
"Noah, I'd appreciate your thoughts on Father's decision to take a second wife from the Lee's". I said noticing that Noah's gazed had been fixed on me the entire time even as I caught him out of the Conner of my eyes.
"Instead of staring at me like I'm about to jump off the balcony," I added
"It's best if we leave Mr Williams to decide". He stated his voice crisp and formal. I adverted my gaze to the other side of the the balcony, That's when I spotted her, shrouded in darkness.
I couldn't get a good look at her face but all I could tell was that she looked disheveled with her messy hair tied up in a rough bun. She wore a loosed white long sleeved with the sleeves rolled up her arm.
She seemed to be negotiating with herself swinging the can of drink from left to right then forcefully gulping down the contents. It was kinda funny to watch but then I think she noticed my presence and soon stood up to leave.
However to my surprise, she suddenly started walking towards the edge as though she was controlled by an unseen forced.
I could tell Noah also noticed her action as he stood upright. We both watched her intently, our eyes fixed on her.
At first I thought she wanted to get a good view at the city …but no she was about to commit suicide!!!
Her movement was unsteady I quickly followed behind in haste just Incase and so was Noah. She didn't even noticed We were following her.
Just then she lost balanced about to fall off the edge of a 180-feet building.
I swiftly grabbed her, pulling her close, and she slammed into my chest.
"What where you thinking, standing so close to the edge ?"
I yelled at her. Her eyes fluttered closed and then widened in shock, before beginning to droop again.
She looked exhausted and sleepy, reeking of alcohol.
It seem out of place for her to be her in this state. Her eyes were swollen and red, but their green hue was striking-a rare and captivating color. Her eyelashes were damped and I wondered if she'd been crying.
"I'm okay now can you please let go".
