Chapter 3 - Revival System

Eric was slightly taken aback by the sound that echoed in his head and when the screen materialised in front of him.

He was only hoping that he got a system as a golden finger, but he never expected to had actually gotten one.

Yes, he has read multiple works over the years and he was familiar with nearly every trope, and concept. If not all of them.

But there's a huge difference between that and this. Those works were fiction and this is reality—his new reality.

'Wow! I really got a system. That's nice; I guess I won't struggle much in this new world,' he thought to himself.

He was curious to know more about the system and he saw its name.

"Revival System..." He said softly.

[Yes, Host.]

"Ohhh. You're sentient?" Eric said in surprise.

[Yes, Host. You can ask me any question and I will give you the answer if it's in my database.]

"I see..." Eric nodded slowly.

He was quite happy that he got a sentient system. Before he died, there was a wave of non-sentient systems in lots of books, and he didn't actually like it.

"So, tell me everything about yourself." He said.

He was very curious to know more about the system. Though the name looks somewhat self-explanatory, he felt that it might not be the case.

[Unlike what you're thinking, Host. The name is self-explanatory. With the system, you can revive infinitely and each time you die, you will either receive stat points or the skill of who or whatever that killed you, allowing you to grow stronger,] The system explained.

"Wait. Let me get this straight. So, what you're actually saying is that I can't die? Or rather, I can't stay dead?" Eric asked with a curious look, and smile on his face.

[Exactly, Host. You have infinite "save me". There's also no limit to how many times you can die and revive.]

"Cool!" Eric laughed.

This was exactly what he wanted.

What is the most scariest and constant thing in all worlds? Death.

But the system has helped him to cheat death. With it, he has no reason to fear death.

Of course, this doesn't mean that he will actively seek death. The only reason why he might do that would be if it was absolutely necessary—which would be always.

Also, according to the system's explanation, each time he dies, he will receive stat points or skills, helping him to grow stronger.

And from how the system casually said death, Eric could already guess how dangerous the world he reincarnated into would be. And so, this would be perfect for him.

"System, is there anything else I should know?" He asked.

He felt that there might be more that the system hasn't told him yet and he decided to ask.

[I will advise you to find out the rest on your own, Host.]

Eric sighed when he heard this. He wanted to know more but he didn't exactly feel bad as the system has already given him quite a bit of information.

Besides, he also felt that the system giving him all the information he needs would lessen the fun.

Eric turned his attention to the system screen, to check the information on it. The system replying took his attention away from it.

...

Eric took his time and slowly went through the information. The first thing that caught his attention was his name.

"Eric Stormrider... This body has the same first name as me," He muttered to himself.

He continued reading and he saw his title next.

"Trash Heir? Fallen Stormrider Noble House? I guess I didn't escape the cliche," he laughed.

He saw his race next and he wasn't surprised. He would had loved it if he had reincarnated as a Dragon or an Elf, or even a Demon. It would be like a dream come true.

But hey, who ever said that being a human was bad? Him? Nah...

Actually, Eric feels that it might actually be better this way. Who knows? Humans of these world might be different from his previous world. Though he highly doubts it.

Eric continued reading through the information and the next thing—two things—that caught his attention was his potential and rank.

"1★ potential? I guess that explains the trash heir title. Tsk," he clicked his tongue, shaking his head.

As for the rank, even without being told, the title and potential had already explained everything he needed to know.

It also made him realise that he will be experiencing a lot of deaths in the coming days. And he will welcome it.

His stats and his overall strength didn't need any explanation, as his rank, potential and title had said all there was to say.

He's weak.

Also, using his knowledge, he knew each each attribute does.

He didn't dwell on it as he continued reading. The next thing that caught his attention was his skill.

"Foresight, a 4★ skill. Was this the original body's skills or mine?" Eric was curious about this, but he was more curious about something else; how to use the skill.

He tried to activate it but nothing happened.

'Maybe I don't have sufficient mana to activate. Or it might be one of those skills that has specific condition for activating it,' he thought to himself.

He wanted to ask the system but he decided to do it later, as something else had caught his attention.

"System, what are Achievement Points used for?"

[You can use it to increase the rank of your skills, Host]

"I see..." Eric nodded.

He wanted to know more about it but that will be later. Besides, he currently has no Achievement Points to test it out.

Also, there was something more important that that right now.

"I got a Starter Pack?! Yes!" He pumped his fist in exhilaration.

He was about to use the Starter Pack when the door of the room opened suddenly and someone burst in.

He looked towards the door and he saw a girl who looks to be probably the same age as him, in a maid uniform, standing there and staring at him with a shocked expression on her face.

Before Eric could ask of her identity, he was shocked to see her rushing towards him at an unbelievable speed.

"Young Master! You're alive!" She screamed, and hugged him tightly.

Eric was taken aback by the girl's speed and wanted to escape but he was too slow, and he was already in her arms before he knew it.

The next moment, the girl started crying into his chest.

"Young Master, I was scared that you will die. Please don't do that again. Please don't try to take your life again. If you die, I will heartbroken and all alone. You're the one one Alice has," she said with muffled voice, crying even harder into his chest.

'Eh? Take my life? Was that how the original body owner died?' Eric thought to himself.

It's to be noted that he didn't receive the memories of the previous body owner and so, the girl and everything around him was very unfamiliar.

Though Eric didn't have the memories of the original body's owner, he did feel a vague sense of familiarity with the girl crying on his chest.

Also, judging from her attire, she was probably the maid to original Eric and by her attitude, it seems like she cares about him.

He looked down at the girl and sighed. He decided to allow the girl to cry out her heart, as his hand instinctively moved to stroke her hair.

Immediately, he felt her body quake as his hand touched her hair and she started crying even harder.

As for Eric, his mind was occupied with something else.

'So soft!'
