She wiped the dampness from the corner of her eyes, raised the corners of her mouth into her best smile, and walked up to him. "Have you been waiting for long?"
"You were gone for so long."
"Yeah, it took quite a while to find it."
She smiled, looking as though nothing was amiss.
Then, still smiling, she looped her arm around his. "Anyway, it's still early. Let's take a walk, have a little stroll, okay?"
"Walking a bit more regularly every day is good for your illness. Breathing some fresh air outside and keeping a positive mood—so long as there aren't any external stimuli triggering it—your condition won't worsen and might even improve."
If he didn't want her to know, then she'd pretend not to know.
Staying upbeat could make him feel more at ease.
If even she were unhappy and acted pessimistic, then Ryan Gregory would have an even harder time maintaining a good mood and persevering.
So, it had to start with her.
