Chapter 10
"Thanks just now, Charlie."
Sofia Hamilton said breathlessly.
In fact, before coming here, she had already explained to Charlie that regardless of the outcome, he could only talk about the positives...
She wasn't intentionally trying to deceive anyone.
She just didn't want Ryan Gregory to be discouraged, to give up on treatment.
She wanted him to believe that there was always hope, as long as he was willing to hold on.
As for the burdens, she would carry them alone.
"How is Ryan Gregory's condition? Now you can tell me,"
she asked anxiously.
Time was tight; if she stayed out too long, she feared Ryan might get suspicious.
Charlie gave a bitter smile and shook his head. "Not very optimistic."
Those simple four words felt like being drenched in cold water, chilling her to the core, freezing the blood in her veins.
"Not... very... optimistic?" She struggled to repeat those words, feeling a sharp pain in her heart, so deep it left her trembling, unable to breathe.
