Chapter 38 - Chapter 38: Not so Nice Pups

Some people may have the belief that in comparison to fighting human's or other bipedal intelligent beings that a bunch of wolves would be easy. Right?

Well, that's the type of belief that would get a person eaten by said wolves as Alix very quickly realized that she was in danger. The wolves began to circle her. She noticed that they were foaming at the mouth so clearly they were quite hungry.

That hunger would also explain why they were out in the open in the first place. They needed some food! Alix tried to reason out her best approach for the situation but before she could even start two of the wolves on either side of her pounced forward. She jumped out of the way but that was clearly in the wolves' plan as she quickly found her self bitten by a third wolf.

'Mo? A little help here!" Alix called out to the fish.

"I'm pretty busy myself, Cap!" Alix looked in Mo's direction where she witnessed the fourth wolf wildly slashing and leaping at Mo preventing them from working together. How had the wolves discovered that Alix and this flying sea creature were a team?

Please, wolves were the ideal team of course they can understand teamwork. Alix refocused on her own battle activating, "Omnia Faust!" on the wolf that had latched onto her. The wolf was blasted back giving Alix the chance to better position herself.

Or so she attempted. The wolves refused to let their meal outmaneuver them. The first wolf leapt forward and, instead of slashing or biting, threw its body at Alix and pressed its weight down on the girl. Alix tried to push the wolf back only to quickly notice the second one had leapt at her from her exposed left side.

'What the hell is up with these things!' Alix used more of her Lis energy, grabbed the first wolf's front legs, and used it to block her left approaching combatant. She successfully blocked the attack grabbed other spell and activated, "Omnia Faust!" pushing both back followed up by, "Omnia Smash!" slamming the wolves into the ground.

She tried to take a breath when the third would pounced at her and sunk it's teeth in. "Shit!" Alix tried to throw the wolf off but found it difficult as the wolf's jaw strength was absurd. 'What kind of wolves are these!'

Alix couldn't throw the wolf off so she decided to jump back and slam it into the ground using Omnia Faust to increase the speed and force of the slam. The two hit the ground hard enough that the wolf's bite released involuntarily and Alix had no plans of letting it get her again. She quickly rolled off of the wolf and held its jaws shut with her hands.

She then took a second to see how Mo was doing only to notice that the fish's wolf was already incapacitated while the fish just sat and watched her struggle.

"Why can't you help now?" Alix asked her ever helpful friend. Mo pondered for moment and shrugged. "It's pretty fun watching ya fight three wolves alone." Mo smiled playfully but Alix could not return the sentiment.

She lifted the final wolf over her head and slammed it into the ground a second time. She then stomped down on the wolf's to hold it down as she activated another Omnia Faust from her satchel ending the wolf.

Alix breathed heavily as she looked around at the aftermath of the battle. She could never have imagined that fighting wolves being difficult with how they were portrayed amongst hunters. This was as dangerous as fighting all of the Djinns at the same time.

This situation made Alix recognize just how much danger she had truly been in that day. Luckily she had something, or rather someone, to release this stress on. Alix took a moment to catch her breath as Mo floated next to her.

"Great job, Lexi! That fight was incredible! If I didn't know better, I'd say that ya fought off an entire pack of those things alone! I'm so proud of ya!" Mo's congratulations did not reach Alix as the girl quickly grabbed ahold of the fish.

Alix held Mo in front of her allowing him to see the pure anger within her eyes. "Mo? Why do you think I had to fight the wolves alone?" Mo began to shake nervously. "Is it because I didn't help ya?" Alix nodded her head vigorously.

"That is exactly the reason! Now, why did you take it upon yourself to neglect to help me in a life or death situation?!" Alix seemed to be getting more angry as she questioned the fish. Mo became far more afraid of his friend than he had ever been of any bird.

"W-Well ya see. I-I just knew that you could handle a situation like that and felt like ya would be upset at me for stepping in when I didn't need to." Mo attempted an innocent smile to try to lessen the girl's rage but that only seemed to intensify it.

"THEY WERE WOLVES!"

"I understand that now! And I ensure ya that in any situation similar to this one I will help ya without any hesitation. Fish's Honor!" Mo's promise fell on deaf ears as Alix pulled a jar out of her bag. Mo's eyes widened in fear. "N-no. Not the Jar! YOU WOULDN"T!"

But she did. She stuffed Mo inside of the jar and sealed it without any hesitation. The jar was just big enough for Mo to squeeze inside and still have a bit of moving room which is why Alix's next move had been so devastating. She began to violently shake the jar as fast as she could. Mo felt like he was sea sick without being in the sea.

Alix shook the jar for a full minute before giving him reprieve. She took a close look at the fish in the jar to ensure that the punishment was effective and judging by Mo's current state...

"I see me old friends from ma days as a fisherman. Ahoy, Meister Viola! Watch out for that giant dancing octopus knight! He'll shake up the competition!"

...the punishment had worked just fine. Alix felt much more calm. She took Mo out of the jar and gingerly placed him back into his much more spacious fish bowl. She then began to tend to her own wounds of which were worse than she would have preferred them be.

'Were those things really just wolves! They had to be some sort of weird variant or something. They were far too strong!' Alix reasoned to herself. That was the only logical conclusion as to why they were so in sync.

She dressed her wounds and decided that it would be for the best if she continued moving for now. She was nowhere near the capital city and would not be there for another few weeks. There was quite literally too much distance to cover for her to be resting.

She lifted the still out of commission Mo and started off on her merry way. She recounted the encounter in her own head and smirked. Mo had been right.

Fighting those wolves had been quite fun!
