Chapter 211 - A Lesson

A week and a half had passed since the Crew had left Arabasta.

Kirks Log pose had stayed steady and true the entire time. The Crew taking shifts to Sail and Anchor up for a time at night or during the day.

Luckily on such a long voyage they had food stores and water barrels to spare if for what ever reason they couldn't pump filtered water through the Bike pump.

Currently the Crew was doing, practically what ever their mind could hold them over. Jeanne and Leroy Played games, Noir prepped small meals and snacks for those that got hungry during the night (Mainly Leroy). And constantly checked all their Food Goods for Mold.

Dezzi stayed in the Galley often. Or Really followed one of the Others around. Rather that be sticking close to Kale during workouts or Hanging out with Leroy.

They'd also gotten surprisingly close to Raven in such a short period of time. She was always one that was calm enough to be around when one of the others got to be too much for when they were reading or messing with their expirement.

And as for the newest member of the Crew. The Scholar always seemed to be sitting around reading with a small pair of glasses on her face. From History books to fiction, her nose was amidst the pages of something. That or she was up helping on of the others with something.

"Hey Rav..." Asked leroy as he sat at the Table with her. His nose in on of the books she'd given him. A Mystery Thriller that she said she'd read a dozen times.

"Yes?" Answered Raven as she too read.

"Why are there so many different words for the same thing..." He said lifting his head and looking to the Scholar.

"Hmhm, What do you mean?" She gave a soft chuckle.

"Well. Like I said. Why's there so many Words for the Same thing?" He closed the book and clasped his hands together, moving and gesturing with them as he spoke. The newly found scars dancing across his flesh as a reminder of the past battle he'd endured. "I ate the Gum Gum Fruit..."

"Right." Raven said. Closing her own book and resting her Hand on her chin.

"But it's also Called...The Gomu Gomu No Mi. I say 'Gum Gum' but also 'Gomu Gomu no' for my Attacks. Kale uses his own words. And so does Noir!"

The Captain Continued "So, what's up with that? I've never really heard anyone speak another Language. And yet all these words seem to come from different places and sound nothing like Normal!"

The Captain had a Point...But the Archologist had an Answer.

"Well. I think the Answer you're looking for would be 'Linguistics'" Leroy stayed quiet as she continued her explanation "You are correct, there are many words that we use in everyday life, or in certain circumstances that do not Originate in our Standard Everyday language. But over the years, Nations and Kingdoms that did use those Languages picked up on the One we use today. And overtime it became the World Language. And because of that, pieces from those other languages were melded and in some cases assimilated into it."

Raven Continued "But instead of becoming their own words. There was still those that spoke the original language, or used those pieces so frequently, that they stayed the same."

A smile came across the captains face as he ran his hand through his hair. Nodding in understanding. "Ohh...Okay. I get it. Yeah that makes sense."

"Thank You Raven." He said smiling to the Woman

"Any Time Leroy." She gave her own soft smile as the two reopened their books.

Jeanne was busy with her own thing nearby. Putting on some finishing touches to her new weapon. As the talk of linguistics comes up she couldn't help but crack a smile.

"You wouldn't survive in the West Leroy, shishishishi." she says as she attaches a high tensile string to one of the arms of the weapon. "Papa's work associates spoke a bunch of different languages." she says as she grunts a bit. Trying to bend the arm of the bow gun back.

"I picked up on a bit here or there, but I only speak two languages in truth." she grumbled as she finally made the connection. Letting out a sigh of relief... Now to do the other one and tighten them up.

"That's cool!" He said as he still had his nose in his Book as the Markswoman spoke behind him

"We should be about at the island any moment now!" Kirk suddenly announced to the rest of the crew, slipping out from where the whipstaff was. Dawned in a tanktop that was cropped to his navel and really baggy, low rise sweatpants somewhat ruined with dirt from his garden, a rare sight to see from the Navigator with getting all filthy. "If you have time, Jeanne, can you go up and keep an eye out?" He asked with a finger up to the Crow's Nest, "You have a better eye than I do, thank youuuuu!"

"I suppose I should." Jeanne would say with a grunt. Bending another piece into place. "Just give me... nngh. Two moments." she would say as sweat began to bead up on her forehead. Pride refusing to let her ask the boys for help assembling this.

It would take a moment but soon the weapon was ready! Well mostly... It was called Balestra. Like a handheld steam drawn arbalest. With that she set it gently next to her and removed her oily gloves. "Alright. See you guys when I see land." With that she was gone in her usual burst of steam.

As the Markswoman postioned her self in the nest. She flipped down one of her Goggles and scoured the Horizon

Leroy then let out a cheer "YES!" He said clasping the Book shut and Running up to his seat on the Palm and Jumping into place. Standing to watch for anything coming into view.

As for the others on the Palm

Kále didn't pay any mind to the ordeal and stayed Training the Enormous weight on the side of the ship. As did Noir who was deep in concentration at thinking through what exactly they would need when they made port.

Dezzi on the Other hand Followed Raven up to the Bow where Leroy was sat as they watched something come over the Horizon. Almost exactly on que to when the Navigator said.

*

Over the Horizon was a shape coming into view. The Hilly Terrain of the Island Known as Jaya. Or It's Official Name 'Jay Vanam Isle'

The Surrounding Ocean around the Incoming Harbor seemed small from the positioning of the Island. And Yet Ships filled the waters. Docked in the Harbor or left anchored in the bay. From small schooners to even a galleon parked on the waters.

"That's a lot of ships..." Dezzi spoke as they put their hands on the rail. Getting onto their tip toes to see over. Only for them to suddenly elevate with the assistance of Ravens 'Hana-Hana Fruit'.

"Indeed it is..." Raven spoke. Crossing her hands under her chest. The Tied fabric of her white shirt resting atop her arms, exposing her midriff. The vague outline of her black laced undergarment underneath

Leroy pursed his lips and scrunched his brow as he watched the Island come closer. "Hmmm. Those noises don't sound pleasent..."

Faintly on the Wind. The Captain was hearing the sounds of Gun Shots from somewhere on the island. Although not being heard by the rest of the Crew. Dezzi could hear it clear as day just as their captain did "Yeah...Not good..." They said

"Some of Us Should Stay on the Ship...Keep the place safe. This is a Pirate town. And we gotta be careful..." Leroy said over his shoulder. Káles eyes hovering up to the rubber man. Stopping mid rep. As did the Cook who stepped out on to the Deck. Folding his arms and saying "Roger that."
