Kingpin's grip tightened around Dr. Octopus' throat, causing her to gasp for air. The sound of her mechanical limbs crashing against him only fueled his anger.
"Enough!" Kingpin growled, his voice low and full of menace. "You don't understand. We've lost too much already. Do you really think I can afford to lose more?"
Dr. Octopus' limbs froze mid-air as she fought to catch her breath. Her face turned red, and her mechanical arms dropped uselessly to the ground. She glanced at Kingpin's furious expression, and a sense of fear overcame her.
"I... I don't want to die, Fisk. Please... we need to... think this through," she rasped.
Kingpin released his grip slowly, letting her drop to the floor. He glared at her for a moment longer before turning away.
"Think it through? You want me to think it through while my entire empire is crumbling?" Kingpin muttered, his fury evident in his every word. "The Spider-People... they're not the same anymore."
The others, who had remained silent until now, exchanged uneasy looks. Tombstone, Scorpion, and the Prowler all felt the weight of the situation.
"We should get out of here before more of them show up," Tombstone finally spoke, his voice rough.
"We can't just back down," Scorpion snapped, clearly agitated. "We're in too deep now."
"You're right," Prowler added quietly. "But we're also outnumbered. That... thing that killed the Green Goblin... it's not something we can fight."
Kingpin turned back toward them, his face grim. "We'll regroup and plan another attack. But for now, we're done here."
The group departed, leaving behind the carnage, their minds heavy with dread about what had just transpired.
Meanwhile, Gwen and the others had taken refuge in a nearby building. The atmosphere was tense as everyone tried to process what had happened.
"I can't believe what we just witnessed," Miles said, his voice shaking. "That demon... it was like nothing we've ever seen before."
"That's the Beheading Demon," Gwen replied solemnly. "It's a creature from Hell—stronger than anything we've ever faced. We've seen how ruthless it is. But it's also bound by a code. It won't kill unless it's necessary."
Damian stood quietly by the window, his expression unreadable. He had seen far more than most could handle, yet he wasn't shaken.
"Do you think they'll come after us again?" Peni asked, her voice quiet but full of concern.
"They'll come after us," Gwen said with certainty. "But they'll be more careful now. We've set a precedent they won't forget."
Just then, Damian's voice interrupted, calm and collected as ever. "They're scared now. They won't attack unless they know they can win."
Gwen nodded. "True. But we can't let our guard down. If they think we're weak, they'll attack us in the most vicious way possible."
They all fell into a grim silence. They knew the battle was far from over.
The sun had set, casting long shadows over the city. Despite the battle, the team was alive, and that was something they would hold on to.
Kingpin and his remaining forces had retreated, but the damage was done. They had learned a hard lesson today: the Spider-People were not to be underestimated.
As Gwen looked around at her team, she couldn't help but feel a sense of unity despite the uncertainty that lay ahead. They were more than just fighters. They were a family, and together, they would face whatever came next.
Quote of the Chapter:"Sometimes, survival isn't about winning. It's about learning how to face the darkness and still move forward."
