Derrick's POV
I stood in the middle of the courtyard, staring out into the small village that stood along the path leading to the official's building. The morning fog could still be felt in the air; it smelled like fresh grass.
I hadn't slept much. My thoughts were stuck on Nathan. Every moment he was away from me, I could feel a strange sensation inside. It felt like a part of me was being ripped out of me.
Suddenly, Felix appeared next to me.
"I received a message from the trackers," he said. "They'll be here soon."
I nodded my head, but before I could even get a word in, the two trackers, Jonah and Anton, came in. They didn't look like they had experienced anything particularly tragic. They looked calm but tired.
I studied their expressions. When they stopped in front of me, they bowed in respect.
"Alpha," they both greeted.
"You're back," I said, watching for even the slightest sign of discomfort in them. But there was none. It seemed like this was an easy feat.
