Maxwell couldn't feel anything. He just prayed that Anna and her brother would come out of this with no memory of each other or of what had happened that day. Bonnie was nobody. She didn't care what happened to her, and her presence there meant nothing. Maxwell couldn't even feel anger. So he remained silent, ignoring her.
"I know you think my words are mere speculation... But I have people here, inside the hospital, who can put an end to Anna, without any suspicion falling on me... I've heard that she's very ill. She hardly has a heartbeat..."
Adonis got up from the table he was occupying on the other side of the cafeteria, tired of hearing Bonnie's curses and threats, and approached her, taking her by the arm, forcing her to stand up.
"Don't fight it, Bonnie. Maxwell didn't reveal our secret to you out of the blue. He revealed it because he knows that we were all listening and we can't allow anyone who has this information to leave us alive." He said and dragged her out of the hospital.
"Go away, Bonnie. Don't come back here, or you won't live to enjoy anything else in your life. When you were shot, those men who are between life and death in the hospital wailed, and all you can think about is your own personal revenge? Ian should have shot to kill. Now, go to Adam's apartment and wait. We'll be in touch with you soon. If you try to escape, your sentence will be death." Adonis said, and went back inside, but decided to stay in the waiting room.
When he arrived back, the doctor was talking to Maxwell, and they both had serious looks on their faces. Adonis hesitated at the thought of approaching him, but forced himself to do so.
"How is everyone, Doctor?" Adonis asked, and the doctor turned to him, recognizing him immediately.
"I was just telling Adam's brother that you should all go home, take a bath and rest. The most serious case is Alexander, and yet he is out of danger of death. However, all of them will remain here tonight and will be under observation. No visitors for any of them. But don't worry. Leave your number at reception and we'll get in touch as soon as they can be visited."
"And Anna?" Adonis couldn't resist. He could sense that all the werewolves wanted her dead, but she was his friend.
"I can't look after her anymore. She's being transferred from this hospital." The doctor said and walked away.
"Do you think he's being honest? If they're fine, why doesn't he allow visitors?" Adonis asked Maxwell.
"He's one of you. He wouldn't lie about anything. But every time we admit someone here, he forbids them to visit if they've been admitted on the same day. I think they must not be able to have strong emotions, or even speak. If he says they're fine, we can relax and take his advice."
"I'm not leaving. I won't be able to sleep, knowing that Anna and her brother are here..."
Mycon approached and touched Adonis' shoulder.
"Let's go to Alpha's house. There, we can shower, rest and have a drink. You're very dirty." He said and looked at Maxwell. "You should come too. I don't think Anna will like seeing you like this. Even if she doesn't stay here, she'll be fine."
Maxwell agreed, and they left for Adam's house. On the way, Maxwell called Henry and told him all about what had happened. Henry didn't let him finish and hung up the phone.
Maxwell took a deep, calming breath. Henry would be going in to see Anna at the human hospital, and he needed to know that Bruma's condition hid the fact that she was also a vampire, and who better to know that than the shrewd Henry.
And as for his brother, as soon as he changed, he would go back and visit Adam, and the doctor wouldn't have the heart to stop him.
Later, Henry called back and Maxwell explained in more detail what had happened and why his trip had been delayed.
Henry smiled, knowing that Maxwell couldn't see. All this was what Dester had been waiting for. Anna was no longer human. But contrary to what he thought, Henry planned to manipulate his daughter to gain advantage and power. From that day on, Anna was the most lethal weapon in existence.
Maxwell was taken to Anna's room and left there to shower. As soon as he got out of the shower, he saw that clean clothes, probably Adam's, had been left on the bed. He put them on and smiled tenderly. They were Adam's clothes, and he didn't feel uncomfortable in them.
He thought about what had happened so far. Adam had come close to killing the woman he loved, and he should pay for it. And his punishment would be to live to see her happy with him. Even though he was actually Anna's real killer.
Maxwell went downstairs, and when he reached the dining room, Adonis was drinking something, and offered it to him, who didn't have the strength to refuse, and sat down next to him.
"Perhaps I shouldn't have called Anna's father? I don't know how he'll react to what Adam did, and as bad as he is, I don't want anything bad to happen to my brother."
Adonis smiled.
"A human can't do anything against an Alpha werewolf. Don't worry about that. Both Anna's father and Adam like each other. And Adam made amends at the last second. He revealed what he did to Anna, not out of fear, but because he wanted her to be saved. He acted on impulse when he led her to her death. And you and Anna are to blame. Ever since she came here, he heard every word that came out of her lips... He heard you in the bedroom, and then in the chapel. He kept his self-control for too long. So... You mustn't take what he did to heart. When her father sees that she's all right, he'll be reassured. Especially since he knows that there's no greater punishment for Adam than being without her. And I believe that now you can live your lives in peace. Adam will no longer be an obstacle. I think the wound that you, the people he loved most, opened in his heart will never heal. Something has broken inside him."
