Chapter 55 - Chapter 55 – Brutalizing Obito

The moment Uchiha Obito appeared amidst the ruins of the Hokage Building, Sasuke immediately turned his head toward the swirling distortion in space.

Watching Obito emerge from the otherworldly void, shrouded in false mystery, Sasuke laughed—truly and deeply amused.

"Yo, Obito. Took you long enough," Sasuke said with a wave of his hand, casual and mocking.

Obito's gaze sharpened. He immediately noticed the Sharingan gripped tightly in Sasuke's palm—the very eye he had once given to Kakashi.

"How do you know my real identity?" Obito demanded furiously. Every part of him screamed to kill Sasuke on the spot, but before he could make a move, he had to ask.

"Heh… You think your identity was some big mystery?" Sasuke scoffed. "You're just a pathetic clown, pretending to be some mastermind. With that brain of yours—duller than a brick—it was laughably easy to trace everything back to you."

"You bastard…" Obito ground his molars together.

"Oh, please. I don't feel like wasting breath on an idiot like you. Not that you'd understand anything I said anyway. It's a little cramped here… How about we move to a more open space and have a little fun?"

Sasuke's voice was eager, eyes burning with a sinister light—he could hardly wait to torment Obito.

Truth be told, Sasuke had long wanted revenge on both Itachi and Obito, those two damn beasts. But tracking them down had proven difficult—especially Obito, who kept vanishing into his damned space-time jutsu at the first sign of trouble.

But things were different now. Sasuke had crossed certain lines—he'd learned to take hostages, to use leverage. And sure enough, Obito had obediently shown up.

Obito narrowed his eyes. He couldn't quite read Sasuke's intentions. Still, no matter what tricks Sasuke had planned, Obito was confident in himself. With Kamui, he could phase through most attacks, and with his Zetsu-enhanced body, he could wield Wood Release. Years spent manipulating events from the shadows had made him feel like a god, lording over the shinobi world. Even though he knew Sasuke had destroyed Konoha, even though Sasuke was an unknown variable—Obito remained arrogantly self-assured.

Sasuke's mysterious attitude only made Obito slightly more cautious.

In a blur, Sasuke left the ruins of the Hokage Building and sped off toward the abandoned Uchiha compound. The moment he came to a halt, Obito appeared right behind him, as if it were nothing.

"Sasuke. Hand over Kakashi's Sharingan. Release your genjutsu and free those trapped souls. Do that, and I might let you live… for now," Obito declared, trying to assert dominance from the start.

"To be honest," Sasuke said coolly, "I really don't want to waste time talking to a creature like you. Animals and men live in different worlds. I'm not here to chit-chat. So…"

He smiled coldly.

"Let the Uchiha revenge banquet begin."

As his words fell, a soul rose from the graveyard nearby—summoned at Sasuke's whim.

She was petite, with a sweet face and purple paint on her cheeks.

It was Nohara Rin.

"Rin?" Obito froze. The anger he had barely suppressed moments ago flared up again like dry straw catching fire.

"You bastard! You dare use Rin's soul?!"

"Obito… Is that you…?" Rin's voice trembled. Sasuke had finally allowed her to speak. Upon hearing Obito's voice, she couldn't help but ask.

Obito went rigid.

"That's right. It's him," Sasuke confirmed, his tone cruel. "I told you before—he's the one who released the Nine-Tails on the village. He killed the Fourth and his wife. You didn't believe me, but now… why don't you ask him yourself?"

Before Rin could say anything, Obito exploded with fury.

"Shut up! I'll kill you! I'll tear you apart!"

The part of himself he most wanted to hide had been dragged into the light—right in front of Rin. Obito lost control and launched himself at Sasuke, Kamui active.

Squelch—

Rin's spirit body moved in front of Sasuke.

Obito's attack struck her squarely. Her face twisted in pain, and her soul dimmed drastically.

Obito looked like he'd been struck by lightning.

"I'm sorry—I didn't mean to—I wasn't trying to hurt you—!"

Sasuke's voice oozed malice: "She's a soul now. Hurt her, and she might vanish completely. No reincarnation. No afterlife."

Obito's pupils shrank in horror. His movements faltered. But Sasuke wasn't done.

One after another, he summoned more spirits: Obito's grandmother, his mother, his father. All of them were forced to join the battle.

Their faces twisted in anguish, but their bodies moved against their will. Every time they tried to speak, Sasuke silenced them with a genjutsu.

What was there to say anyway? Some pathetic encouragement? Final words? Apologies?

Sasuke had no interest in granting Obito any sort of "healing moment."

Obito began dodging attacks using Kamui, too afraid to strike back.

"Tch tch tch… Didn't think you had a conscience. I expected you to go full monster and fight them head-on."

Sasuke's mocking tone stabbed like needles.

"Damn you! Aaaaghhh!!!" Obito trembled, roaring like a beast. The hatred in his eyes was enough to kill a man, if looks could.

He realized he couldn't keep dodging forever.

The Kamui Sharingan spun rapidly—he tried to absorb the souls of his loved ones into the other dimension to protect them.

As he reached for Rin—

BOOM—

Rin exploded.

Obito froze. His mind went blank.

"No—!"

At point-blank range, the soul detonation hit him hard. Obito dropped to one knee, bloodied and mangled. He instinctively tried to gather Rin in his arms… but there was nothing left to hold.

The explosion faded.

Rin's soul was gone.

Obito was a bloody mess, but his eyes stayed fixed ahead—wide, wild.

Sasuke sneered.

"She's gone. Her soul shattered. She's never coming back."

"RIN—!"

Obito completely lost his mind.

A killing intent like never before erupted from his entire being. There was only one thing left in his heart: the urge to kill Sasuke in the most brutal way possible.

"You're dead!!!"

"Yes… That look. That face twisted in rage and despair. I love it," Sasuke said, arms open, a grotesque grin stretching across his face. "I love watching you burn with hatred, knowing you can't do a damn thing about it."

Obito lunged at him in blind fury.

This time, he was greeted by another wave of explosive attacks from his relatives' souls.

Sasuke observed Obito's despair with genuine interest, trying to memorize every moment—so he could relive it later when bored.

And when he'd seen enough—

Sasuke finally made his move.

A black mist of decay condensed into a long spear and drove into Obito's body, piercing the Zetsu half. A curse of lingering hatred followed right behind it.
