Sullivan gently laid Bloom on the bed. Ms. Reid stood nearby, hesitating. Tears rolled down her cheeks as her lips pressed tightly shut. Seeing her state, Sullivan sighed.
"She's fine, Ms. Reid," Sullivan said, comforting both himself and the worried woman.
"I got her out in time," he reiterated.
"...I hope," he added silently.
Sullivan left Ms. Reid alone with Bloom. As he stepped out of the room, he nearly collided with a stern-looking woman. Her eyes studied him with a hint of superiority.
"Master Narok, we weren't properly introduced. I am Matron Prim. I work for the Underground and have been in charge of Rose Manor for many years now," she said.
Sullivan cast her a cursory glance. He vaguely remembered telling someone of her description not to disturb Esther before rushing off the island. Thinking of Bloom's pale little face, he scowled.
"You work for the Underground, eh?"
She puffed up, answering with what could only be described as a smug grin.
