Bloom slowly opened her eyes. The room was bright and unfamiliar. Panic bubbled up inside her. It was just a dream after all—her dad hadn't come to save her. Taking sharp breaths, she pushed herself out of bed and scrambled to find a small space she was sure would be safe. They couldn't hurt her if they couldn't find her.
Thirty minutes later, Sullivan walked into the empty room. He spun around and called into the hallway for Ms. Reid. The older woman emerged hurriedly from a corner, half walking, half running.
"What's wrong? Master Narok, is she awake?"
"She's gone," Sullivan replied tersely.
Ms. Reid halted, covering her mouth in shock. "D-Did they…"
"No," Sullivan shook his head. "She's probably hiding. She must have been startled waking up in a strange place."
Ms. Reid let out a relieved sigh but still looked worried. "I left to use the bathroom barely three minutes ago. She can't have gone far. Did you check the room?"
Sullivan shook his head.
